Do you teach or kick in dungeons?

So, I was curious if your first response it to teach or kick when someone is holding a dungeon or trial run back?

I’ve been on both ends. I’m a returning player and I had an awesome pug group who helped me learn mechanics and I’ve had a pug group who never responded when I asked for advice and then kicked me last boss.

But, I felt good because I taught some new players some dungeon mechanics the other day to beat a boss.

Always try to teach, some mechanics can be confusing the first time. But it goes both ways. Some people refuse to listen no matter how many times you explain to them.

I teach. Sometimes people can't learn quick enough. Usually they give up and leave by themselves if that happens. I kicked someone once, it was for Balorgh HM, he claimed he already had the achievement, so I guess he got carried, because after an hour of wiping with him spending most of the time on the ground, we got it first try when I replaced him with a friend. Yes, I'm not a fan of kicking at all.

I always attempt to teach first. But if it takes over 45+ minutes and it's a single person who is holding the group back I'll ask them to drop group so that the other 11 people can at least complete the content at the time.

Never really ran into this issue in a dungeon unless it was the tank who was reason the group kept wiping. In those cases if the tank just couldn't get it down I would offer them to swap to their DPS and I would get on my tank so that the player could at least get a clear on one of their characters.

Very rarely do I have to kick someone when they are trying to learn. After a while they will either leave out of frustration or will admit that they aren't ready and don't want to hold the group back so they leave.

If someone kicks a player from a party, even though said player made it clear he's new and is looking for advice on how to do group runs properly, then this person can also be considered to be a "noob" IMO.

Not everybody will learn how to do group dungeons on their first run or by simply watching some YT videos. People need to learn to be more patient and actually communicate with others, after all, MMOs are about interacting with other players.

Now if someone is intentionally screwing your group dungeon runs and won't listen to you, then the kick is deserved.

Regarding PUGS I try to teach. I love helping others. I try always to approach discussing mechanics with respect. If I get any blowback I just turn my mic off and if we're stuck I'll obviously leave (that doesn't happen very often).

    Teach if possible.

We were all clueless newbies once. We all did our first trial or first dungeon once. So I like to give those people a chance and help them understand what to do.

However if nothing changes and they just keep going on making the same mistake and not even trying to improve. Then either I leave or kick.

People need to learn to be more patient and actually communicate with others, after all, MMOs are about interacting with other players.

Communication is the main problem. People are so stupidly proud these day they wont admit they don't know or ask for advice most of the time.
And I can't count the number of time where people don't answer and don't read you when to try to explain to them.

That why I said in my 1st answer than now I kick player if they don't ask themself for advice. I'm not a social teacher, if they don't even make a sightless effort to communicate, I'll not wast my time.

I try to teach why less than I was used, a bit sad, but can't afford to lost 45min just because ppl don't even try to speak.

I prefer to teach. Especially if its a mechanics thing.

Even the base game normal dungeons can be hard if you don't know what to do.

Last Undaunted event, my leveling nightblade tank got put into an in progress Arx Corinium. The two low level players remaining were stalled on the first boss and said that the tank and healer left because DPS was too low to counter the snake's healing.

So we ran it. DPS was too low.

Except that no one had bothered to tell them to stay out of the snake's AOE so it doesn't heal itself.

Once they knew the mechanic, we cleared the dungeon, no problem.

If you're good enough to teach, you also know when to bail early on. The 15 min penalty is sometimes faster than kicking someone and getting another random who may be worse or just unable to join.

Saturday I helped two guys do Tempest who didn't know mechanics. We all had mics so it just took some practice first.

More kicks happen the less communication there is.

    Teach and then I leave.

Kicking is passive aggressive and i have the problem with them why should they have to leave because I have an issue

I never vote to kick, i just p x e and move on with my day.

I do really try to teach, through language barriers and people who don't seem to get it (sometimes you gotta show, not tell. Lots of jumping :'D). Some of my absolute best experiences in the game have been coaching people through their first vet DLC dungeon, no matter how long it takes. Worth the pride at the end. ^^ I think half my friendslist is newbs I didn't have the heart to reject after a dungeon tbh
That said, like many others I just don't always have the energy to do it. As much as I'm usually against it, I have to admit there's been a few times where I've PUGged with someone who just kicks and kicks immediately, even just based on CP.... and I'm guilty of just going along with it. Sometimes you just need things to be easy :x

The one thing I've gotten kind of bad about is teaching really general stuff; like trying to get the DDs to not run a marathon behind the healer. Don't walk backwards out of the group in a mob cause you have aggro from one add. I've probably gotten a bit passive aggressive about just stubbornly not running after them and leaving them to themselves -- which may work AFTER you've talked to them, but as it is they probably just think I'm a *** healer and had a bad time.

I'm really thankful to those that teach. I do dungeons maybe once a month at most. So the last time I did that particular dungeon was probably a year ago. I've forgotten the mechanics by then. But I also don't want to slow everyone down, so if you dont teach, I just put together what I remember and try my best. Usually ends up ok. Luckily I've never ended up with jerks who kick as a gut reaction.

Depends on the dungeon and what needs teaching.

If it's a normal and someone needs mechs or just some general pointers fine. I don't kick unless it's a DLC dungeon with one shot mechs and the tank doesn't even know how to taunt. I'll put up with a terrible member of party and just grit my teeth on normal non-DLC. I've even explained the basics of tanking before.

Where I change is vet. On vet, I'll teach mechs, I'll give tactics and will do what I can so long as the player has the base skill to get through. I rarely kick and can only think of a handful of times I have. Had healer in vDCII who just spammed BoL once every 10 seconds. Wasn't doing Engine Guardian with that. Had a tank who in vCoAII would taunt one mob and hold that taunt only. No prioritisation, they would taunt the nearest thing and, until that was dead, would taunt nothing else. That meant they'd take an add with the boss running free. I even tried to explain you can hold more than one taunt and, even if you can't, you have to prioritise and take the hardest hitter. They got gobby so we kicked.

If we can clear it, I will teach. However, I am not there to hand hold on vet. If people don't know or don't get dungeon specific mechs, I will teach. They need to learn at some point and it helps everyone to teach and not be toxic and kick. I will even try and teach people who don't know core combat mechanics if I think there is a chance they will be able to do it. Where I kick is when they are either rude about it or just refuse to learn essential combat mechanics like add prioritisation and holding multiple mobs (for tanks), avoiding the red and using more than just light attacks (for DPS if I can't carry the DPS side of things) or using more than a BoL spam on heal checks (for heals). That is only because those people should not be in vet dungeons, because they have yet to learn in normal dungeons.

Tl;dr: I only kick in vet if they make it a chore to clear because they cannot do the most basic gameplay mechanics. Otherwise I teach or tolerate.

depends on my mood and player which is in this place for kick/teach
I get pissed enogh times by noobs while I tried to teach them while I saw they are doing for example less dps than tank etc....so thats why I often just prefer to kick to not waste my time and nerves - sorry but that was to enough for me whiel trying to tech newbies noobs where many of them was still saying they know game better than me playing since beta doing vet content for very long

but there are also exceptions like this player will before start an conversation when he is begginer or something, then I see it is someone normal with who I can help, someone who have willings to be teached about game what and how works to play his role/class efficient :)

If they ignore the explanation and keep insisting doing their own mechanics and consequently dying then, I just leave.

Good players tend to pick up mechanics on the fly, only takes them a couple of wipes at most to learn what's going on.

I mostly leave or kick. I don't have to teach anyone how to play a video game. If you don't put any effort then i sure as hell won't do it for you.

Out of all the most impressive thing is the lack of basic knowledge, can be cp160 or 810+ I've saw lot of them.

Red circle ? Stay in and don't understand why he died.
    Interrupt ? Nope
    Break-free ? what is that ?
    Active synergies ? What ?
Block heavy atk or fast casting aoe ? Nope
Dps who rez the dead ? Nope
    Stay togheter ? Nope
Don't pull before Tank ? lel
Healer DPSing instead of heal ? Check
DPS with board and sword ? Check
Run away from healer when low hp ? Check
DPS checking number from addon instead of focus on mech ? Check
Looking at boss pattern ? Nope 99% of the player I've encounter or saw on Youtube don't look at or rely on a mod cuz they're lazy, and when mod fail, they fail..
Pretty funny when a big update come and add-on stop working.

I'm gonna be a bit rude here but : it's the 1st MMORPG where I see a big part of the community with such low skill.
I'm not blaming anyone, just saying.
