Could you provide an example from a game that doesn't suck? That would probably be more germane to the discussion.

Suddenly (how many? enter X number here...) people are attempting play all at once and there are (gasp!) issues that they are working on. Relax; it sucks, yes. But it's not an actual big deal in the grand scheme of life. I'll give you 49 cents out of my own pocket to compensate you for this one day of lost funds, if it makes you feel better.
Some people only have weekends to play. How many weekends are in a month? Redo the math. Then offer to compensate me. I'll gladly take you up on it.
I have two jobs, in my last semester of full time college (16 credits, which is four classes), and I have a 7 year old child. I completely agree, some of us only have weekends to play; in fact, I only have weekend evenings to play, honestly. The math is $15 per month divided by 30-31 days, which is 49 cents per day, roughly. 48-50 cents per day, if you want me to get really specific. Which is actually absurd when this month is free of a subscription charge, but that's what I was using as a basis for reimbursement. It's absurd to ask for any type of compensation for the purchase of the game in terms of days played, right? The Halo games take like 3 days to beat, does that mean I should ask for compensation because I find them to be a rip off? If I want to be an a-hole maybe, lol. I paid for the Imperial edition of this game, I find it to be wonderful and I look forward to years of playing. Maybe I'm the only one not complaining about one day of lost time, even after spending 12 hours today studying for a test in Business Tax and all I wanted to do was end the day in Tamriel only to spend 20 minutes, literally, waiting to load into Cyrodiil and it never loaded. Just saying, it's really not that big of a deal.
You are right, my panties aren't in a bunch about it. Just stating a thought.
Maybe that is also why this month is free, definitely something to consider. I am mainly thinking from a business standpoint. On what I think is the right thing to do.
Congratulations on your last semester of college, I wish you well irl and in Tamriel.
Thank you for the comment! To you as well, you seem like a stand-up guy (or girl) or rather, an al dente one.
It's probably why the first month is free, sure. Plus the chunk we put it out in the beginning for the software itself, maybe some goodwill so to speak. You have a point thought; it does suck to pay for a product you can't use and I certainly don't disagree with that. Games though, they take so much effort on the part of the developers and there's so much behind the scenes we don't necessarily know about. With the Elder Scrolls in particular I think there's so much potential and it's going to be such a great game, for me I'm just thrilled to be finally in the launch days.

There are definitely problems that need to be fixed for EOS but really over all they are not as major as a number of other MMO's have had at launch.
I dunno, I've played at least half of the MMOs since UO at launch and/or beta tested and I don't remember this much down time, especially during weekends. They all had bugs... but I have to say the "not being able to attack and running slow bug" is pretty harsh and Beth/Zenimax hasn't even acknowledged it exists yet.
Longest down times I remember are 3-4 hours, which people were freaking out about. But ESO has had a 16 hour downtime already and this one is estimated at 11 hours and it's only a week into launch.
They owe us nothing, and you're entitled to nothing because of the downtime. Go back and read the EULA, etc..
The only issue I have with the downtimes is that they have a bad habit of giving all of 5 minutes notice with zero information about what's going on. They need to learn to communicate better.
So you are telling me they dont even owe us good support?
Interesting... I will wait for you to have an issue.

LOL, Ive played 3 MMO's from day 1, and all three were clusterfucks so to speak. In fact, The Secret World was so bad that the GM's started giving people quest completes in order to progress through the game.
This startup, although it seems to have a few problems, feels like its been out for months, not weeks.

I've had several issues. That said, I'll repeat myself. Go read the EULA again. You're not entitled to any compensation related to downtime. I said nothing about providing proper support.

you must be remembering a different WoW launch then i did or atleast played on one of the less popular servers i remember rollbacks loot lag quest lag attack lag queues game crashes server crashes.... and quest bugs during the first month of WoW launch
All I would like to say is that if your paying for 30 days, then you should get thirty days. So if the servers are down for a total of say 48 hours this month, then we should get 2 free days. Seems logical too me. Imagine if your cable went out for 2 days, wouldn't you want some sort of "sorry about that" from your provider? I expect maintenance and unforeseen circumstances to happen, but in a consumer based industry, making right with customers is all that matters. I personally at this point love the game, and other than right now have not had any issues with downtime or bugs (other than 1 or 2 quests)

It would be, yes. They did compensate those of us that preordered the game in with two extra days of early access time due to various problems and obstacles to playing. So they certainly aren't stingy thus far and further compensation isn't out of the realm of possibility, despite the fact that they aren't required to do anything per the TOS. As far as the blowing up factor, I can't speak for everyone but I've played a lot of MMO's in my day and it's a very common thing to see someone demanding to be compensated for downtime. I think it's become one of those eye-rolling things now, to be honest.
