Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

We, the players, deserve playtime compensation for this.

Well that is just absolutely not true. I have been playing MMO's for 20 years, and this is one of the best launches I have ever seen. Not only gameplay but, customer support as well. ZOS has been amazing when it comes to replying to my emails, I have had 3 inquiries and on busy late-nights, they have responded within 10 minutes. That's impressive to me. I don't know if we will get compensated or not, but I mean...you kinda have to fix things if they aren't working, that's how online games go. It isn't like they have taken the game down for an entire day. Are they just not supposed to update/fix the server at all because little Johnny wants to pway his game at any random time and they won't want little Johnny to throw a fit? No, that's just silly. I know it sucks people, but you can never predict the servers a week after launch, they never tested for that. They tested for heavy traffic weekends, not a two week stretch. Everything requires maintenance. Be patient, and watch Dave Attel's stand up on Comedy Central!

To be fair, although MMO launches are usually bug riddled, most MMO companies don't brag about how lag free and smooth the launch is going to be like this one did. They set the bar and have failed to live up to it.

You must have played one game in 10 years. Just guessing. I have had WAY worse. STO, AoC, Aion, GWs, etc. This is the first time they had anything bad happen since early access and you are complaining that it goes down once. Sheesh...

I agree, I think if you are going to take down a game for maintenance on a WEEKEND, when you are paying an absolute FORTUNE for the game plus a subscription on top of it, we deserve some form of compensation for it. Yes bugs happen in any game, especially a massive one like this but CMON!!! On a saturday/sunday! You are going to loose a lot of oceanic players, as well, since Friday night our prime time we couldn't play because of 'maintenance' and now on a sunday at 2 in the afternoon here???? May as well say bye bye to ever getting to play this on weekends. Biggest frustration is the amount I paid for the game, and 30 apparently free game time which 1/4 of is taken up by maintenance because you choose to do it in oceanic prime hours. Before people cry First world problems sit back and think of this - you are paying for a service which promises something that then doesn't deliver. If you ordered a pizza and they showed up hours late and with the wrong order, wouldn't you be pretty pissed off? Especially if the pizza guy said eh people are starving somewhere else. so thats an excuse for not doing the job properly? no, no it isn't.

I mean I do see justification in being a little put off, by the issues. Seeing, as like many others, I work all week and this is the first time I have gotten to really mess with the game since early access, I am fairly disappointed. I know its still early and that issues will arise, but if you promise a bug and lag free launch and don't deliver, you should be held accountable.

You missed Defiance last year. That one had Amtrak written all over it.

It's over a year later and they're still having launch issues. ;)

It definitely sucks being cut out of the game on a Saturday night, but I think that ZOS has bigger fish to fry than compensating for a few hours of emergency maintenance. People out there (hundreds of them) are having serious issues. Their banks are disappearing, their guilds are being deleted, their skills are evaporating, and they are unable to progress with essential game content. Heck, some people are not even able to play because of other issues such as being charged 5 times for 1 purchase on the website and overdrafting their accounts (ZOS Website FTW) or they are still waiting to receive their game boxes. Some people have been banned by bots, too. Really, in the context of all these issues, a little down time is nothing to balk at, especially since they are taking down the servers to fix problems.

Don't get me wrong. I'm the last person who wants to defend ZOS. I love this game, but as a customer I must say I've been through a nightmarish experience with support. Not trying to say you're not entitled to your opinion, but consider the fact that this is for the greater good of the game in the long-run.

Aion was not buggy at launch. The only bad thing with aions launch was that there was an hour long queue to log in for the first week. But if you got in, you could play it like a real game instead of this Elder Relog Online garbage.

There are definitely problems that need to be fixed for EOS but really over all they are not as major as a number of other MMO's have had at launch.

I have been in four mmo launches- GW2, Tera, NW, and Rift. None of them had so much downtime, so much difficulty logging in, and only NW had an issue as serious as the bank etc. bug in ESO.

What's more in Tera, I actually did get generous free game time given to me if there was any extended downtime.

Basically in those four other mmos I just logged in and played- there was no real issue. The first few days I recall some queue times in Tera, but it was nothing like this constant waiting for 30-60mins just to play on a regular basis trying to log in.

That is what happens when you do a half baked open beta.. not that many got on to just play for one weekend . I tried to give codes to some of my friends and when they found out is was just for a weekend . They passed. They never got a true over load test .

I agree, i think all these problems had gone way to far, you got 2 stress test to check that out, plus 5 early access days... now the playtime is running out from our 30days without even playing... it would be nice that a day or two of gametime would be added

Longest down times I remember are 3-4 hours, which people were freaking out about. But ESO has had a 16 hour downtime already and this one is estimated at 11 hours and it's only a week into launch.

Umm...say what? You just made that 11 hour "estimation" up, me thinks. Or else you heard it on reddit? Source please

Why on earth is everyone complaining so much? This is the end of week one... This game is beautiful and actually very fun. They spent years developing it, countless hours, days, weeks, YEARS of effort to provide us with entertainment. Suddenly (how many? enter X number here...) people are attempting play all at once and there are (gasp!) issues that they are working on. Relax; it sucks, yes. But it's not an actual big deal in the grand scheme of life. I'll give you 49 cents out of my own pocket to compensate you for this one day of lost funds, if it makes you feel better.

Some people only have weekends to play. How many weekends are in a month? Redo the math. Then offer to compensate me. I'll gladly take you up on it.

I have two jobs, in my last semester of full time college (16 credits, which is four classes), and I have a 7 year old child. I completely agree, some of us only have weekends to play; in fact, I only have weekend evenings to play, honestly. The math is $15 per month divided by 30-31 days, which is 49 cents per day, roughly. 48-50 cents per day, if you want me to get really specific. Which is actually absurd when this month is free of a subscription charge, but that's what I was using as a basis for reimbursement. It's absurd to ask for any type of compensation for the purchase of the game in terms of days played, right? The Halo games take like 3 days to beat, does that mean I should ask for compensation because I find them to be a rip off? If I want to be an a-hole maybe, lol. I paid for the Imperial edition of this game, I find it to be wonderful and I look forward to years of playing. Maybe I'm the only one not complaining about one day of lost time, even after spending 12 hours today studying for a test in Business Tax and all I wanted to do was end the day in Tamriel only to spend 20 minutes, literally, waiting to load into Cyrodiil and it never loaded. Just saying, it's really not that big of a deal.

You are right, my panties aren't in a bunch about it. Just stating a thought.

Maybe that is also why this month is free, definitely something to consider. I am mainly thinking from a business standpoint. On what I think is the right thing to do.

Congratulations on your last semester of college, I wish you well irl and in Tamriel.

Thank you for the comment! To you as well, you seem like a stand-up guy (or girl) or rather, an al dente one.

It's probably why the first month is free, sure. Plus the chunk we put it out in the beginning for the software itself, maybe some goodwill so to speak. You have a point thought; it does suck to pay for a product you can't use and I certainly don't disagree with that. Games though, they take so much effort on the part of the developers and there's so much behind the scenes we don't necessarily know about. With the Elder Scrolls in particular I think there's so much potential and it's going to be such a great game, for me I'm just thrilled to be finally in the launch days.

yeah u got a month free....u get no compensation.....i have no idea why this thread is even here.....and also....read the EULA.....it tells u all this lol......all of u need to learn to play with what u got.........sure it has bugs BUT u need to be patient and let them work on it....so far ive seen almost 16k players post on forums....game has alot of subs and we wont have to worry about the game going until they absolutly HAVE to launch F2P..which i highly doubt they will...they had a smooth launch...yes there were unforseen bugs and glitches but thats to be expected a week into launch....i bet u 1k in-game gold....that by the end of this month..most bugs will be worked out :)

I have to agree. Other games have screwed up in this way because and those games rarely workout down the road. If they show customer appreciation then maybe more people will be inclined to stay with them for next month.

They don't have to show customer appreciation. What game as vast as this doesn't come out full off bugs? Most of the greatest games ever made started out littered with bugs. But that's why they have times like now, emergency updates. Eventually the urgent updates will get less and less frequent and eventually (with some exceptions) disapear.

All I would like to say is that if your paying for 30 days, then you should get thirty days. So if the servers are down for a total of say 48 hours this month, then we should get 2 free days. Seems logical too me. Imagine if your cable went out for 2 days, wouldn't you want some sort of "sorry about that" from your provider? I expect maintenance and unforeseen circumstances to happen, but in a consumer based industry, making right with customers is all that matters. I personally at this point love the game, and other than right now have not had any issues with downtime or bugs (other than 1 or 2 quests)

    1) They do not patch or do maintenance at such hours normally. The planned maintenance are at 8 AM (EDT/EST) for good reasons. Therefore, this patch is urgent according to the Devs and they know the timing sucks. (It sucks for me also, but I can think it through and see this is an urgency patch.)

    2) Those who claim ESO launch is "buggiest" since xyz are so full of it. Any MMO player has seen so much worse. It's irrational whining from the spoiled.

Edit : I am on a PC and have not had any bank wipes or what not.

I'm sorry to say this... but I'm gonna say it anyway.

I actually think this is HILARIOUS.

When the servers went down for what was 'another nationalities' Friday night and said nationality were upset and on the forums, all you Americans came on and solemnly informed us why you Americans will always be prioritised and why you deserved it to be this way etc etc etc.

I wondered what your reactions would have been had the roles been reversed - and lo and behold - they have!

I've played countless MMO's at launch and this is by far the roughest and buggiest. LotRO, EVE, WoW, GW, LoL... they all had their bugs to be sure, but nothing on the sheer scale of this. Full bank wipes? Rollbacks to hours before? These aren't 'launch day server stress bugs', these are GAME. BREAKING. problems that had no good reason not to be addressed and fixed PRIOR to launch.

Really, all this just traces back to how naive and yes, ignorant Zenimax was in its pre-launch months. I was invited to virtually every Beta event, and you know? There weren't that many. A couple stress test weekends do not an intensive beta make. This all goes back to just how poorly Zenimax tested this game prior to launch, and now we the paying customers are being hammered into the role of beta testers while they sort this crap out.
wow you are wrong on so many parts here.. and Wow launch was a fricken disaster. Some servers were down for weeks. Dont even put LoL in the same category, its a different genre.
