Yeah, the language filter needs some serious work. I would prefer to have it on, but when it censors non-profane stuff constantly, I just turn it off all the time. That means it isn't fulfilling its intended purpose and might as well be scrapped from the game.

Glad some people got itTo those still confounded, it's about the in-game profanity filter, which is a trap for newcomers, and sometimes even old-timers on new characters, because it's enabled by default.
The OP was inspired by someone in Daggerfall asking:
How do I us******* items in crafting?
us*******
WTF?
What's wrong with u.s.e.s.t.y.l.e?
The profanity filters doesn't like E followed by STYLE. Doesn't matter that the E is at the end of the previous word, followed by a space, and then the clean word STYLE. "E STYLE" is as naughty as "ESTYLE". I still don't get it, didn't even know ESTYLE was a word.
Sidenote: the filter has no issues with E-STYLE, E-PEEN or EPEEN.
Often times you can see people advertising their guilds, ending their message with:
If you want to join, whi******e.
As a newcomer who doesn't even know the profanity filter can be disabled, would you join a guild whose guild master can't avoid profanity in recruitment? "SPER M" not allowed in Tamriel, maybe that's why there are no children.
It's equally bad if you speak another language. When I returned after a long break, I didn't know about the filter toggle, and it kept mangling random parts of words. Would you have any issue with the word "mimochodem" (which, by the way, means "by the way")? Profanity filter does have an issue with that and obscures some letters in the middle of that word.

Oh. my. I googled estyle, and it's a line of maternity clothing. Why? Just why would you censor this?

Um.... there are reasons. None of which I am posting as I don't fit the demographic of "allowed posts" herein.
In other words, it's political. And based on the... um... major political push in the US right now. *sigh*
I wasn't aware anybody actually left that thing on..
