Login Bug (CANNOT LOG IN) Error #318

The issue
I can now confirm the solution to the following problem: If you are getting Error 318 during the CHARACTER login for your account (Before ever reaching the game) do as follows. This has appeared following the introduction of the guild management system.

The cause
Having an administrative role on multiple guilds (in this case, 5)

The solution
1) Confirm this is (a) an alt account and (b) has admin roles in multiple guilds
2) Remove the account's rights from many of these guilds, or kick the account entirely
3) Login
4) Thank @AmazingGuilds for the solution, as Zos didn't find it, he did.
5) Hope the issue is resolved properly so we don't have to kick our own accounts simply to play

Further testing
The issue occurs after the 5th guild with permissions for myself, my friend, and another major trader. It therefore appears that having permission to accept invites in FIVE guilds 'seems' to be the problem

    When it says 'messages' what it means is 'communications', or requests. This can be caused by many things, several of which you have accounted for. The only thing I can suggest is something on the client, or potentially some kind of ping virus. The latter seems extreme, and unlikely -- has your friend tried to uninstall/repair the client app?

    Failing that, look at environmental issues:

    Is it a wired connection (i.e. you don't have dropping wi-fi connection (or interference) causing multiple upstream requests)?
    Is the connection stable, i.e. no REIN/SHINE issues around the router.

    Hey, thanks for the opinion! They have an alt too, and that account works. Only one account fails.
    They have uninstalled and reinstalled, and then repaired as well.

    Well... if one account works 100% all the time, but another one has the repeated unusual behaviour, its a bug report / customer services call.

    Hi JesC,

    The first of these relates to console.
    -> The account is PC.
    The second of these related to addons, internet or message spam
    -> The account has zero addons
    -> The owner can log into other accounts, just not that one
    -> There are zero messages as the error happens during login

    Upon firing up Elswyr for the first time, I had repeated hanging load screens while trying to load from the character screen. I dont get an error message but the character load screen hangs and finally ends in task manager showing ESO has stopped responding.

    I have repaired the launcher and deleted my settings file which enabled me to log in to a few characters by repeating that process. As it stands now, I can only log in to 1 of my 13 characters. That character was last logged in to Deshan. The other 12 all were last logged in to Reapers March.

    Customer service took almost 12 hours to respond with a very un-helpful automated response.

    If the steps in the article did not resolve the issue, you should have your friend reach out to us via support ticket. It may be an issue related to that particular account.

    Hey there, OP, Arena25 with some food for thought.

    While I'm not sure why your friend is continuing to receive Error 318 on one specific account, based on the fact your friend can log into other accounts and has 0 addons, it might be possible that the account in question might be falsely flagged in regards to fraudulent activity (such as botting/spamming). While I'm not sure why that's the case, botting/spamming is against the ESO ToS, and right now ESO is on heightened awareness for any bots/cheats/spammers as we have many refugees coming over from WoW for various reasons (and one of the reasons is that botting is extremely prevalent, especially in PvP battlegrounds past 10pm).

    You've done the right thing by submitting a support ticket, but i also believe they are overwhelmed with support tickets at the moment, so at this point not much you can do but wait and hope for the best.

    Ah, a ban looks different to error 318 anyway - and it affects characters that have never been used yet lets it into that screen. Additionally, they do nothing apart from trade... besides, I think the last tome they logged in was months ago haha

    This has been happening to one of my bank mule accounts. Started happening today.
    • I cannot log into any character.
    • Once I select a character, I get the load screen for the zone, and then during the zone load screen, I get Error 318.
    • My main account and my other bank mule accounts are not affected. Only this one account.
    • The problem happens only on one server. I get this error on PC/NA, but when I log into this exact same account on PC/EU, it's fine.
    • Edit: This also happens on every computer that I've tried, including one that has no addons installed.

    Purely out of interest, which alt has the problem? For her it is the 4th.

    Either way, it seems to be alt accounts having this isdue since elswyr

Then I remembered...hmm THIS account. Common sense says, wow I can log into this account, and support ticket for my main. WRONG...same thing. I get into my account then follow the support prompts and it told me on this account same thing. Log in Fail. SO now I openly complain.

    I had this exact same thing happen a year ago for almost the same exact thing when I needed to submit a support ticket. Last year it was due to guild mails sending out. This year, I was having an issue with Craftstore Cook not working and I was in my house trying to make drinks when it wouldn't allow me to use the add-on but I turned the add-on off to reloadui and use the base game set up with the provisioning table when it still didn't work, logged out to character screen and then was never able to log back in from the stand point of the Error 318 for spamming. All over trying to make a recipe. And nothing to do with sending out mails.

    I didn't think to test whether PC-EU would let me log in, but yes, this describes what I'm seeing.

    Creating new characters does not allow access. All login attempts fail on the Zone loading screen with Error 318.

    Blobsky, I'm hoping that perhaps something will be fixed on the Maintenance. If not, I'll try support this week.

    It seems this problem is connected to people that play multiple accounts, and not just my friend - I now also have the problem on alt account after testing this theory.

    Any ideas?

    Did you delete the shader.cooked file and rebooted the game? Maybe it works.

    Maybe gaming mouse issue. Try disabling keyboard from device manager and pulling up vitural one to troubleshoot it

    I would suggest reading the problem description in post #17, since it's pretty clear that it's an issue on their side.

    I finally got my email to my account on my personal account fixed and I used an old Bethsada ticket from the last time to tell them of the continued issue. However, I was finally able to put in a support ticket yesterday and they asked for an error report from my launcher. Which I gladly sent to them reading what explained what they were looking for. I then get a mail about "how to fix the 318 error" on removing my add-ons etc. I did everything that they asked, I waited for the patch today to open up and poof same problem not resolved. I then sent back a message saying that I have several paid accounts. 3 can log in on the same computer but not the 1. Why is it that 3 can and 1 can't? I then told them 2 of my officers were experiencing the exact same issue on alt or main accounts they too have. This isn't an isolated issue nor just a random case but this is happening to a lot of people since early release. SO after that I got a mail asking for the same error report from launcher, so I sent them the support ticket from yesterday, then the new report to do a comparison side by side. I even went to a different computer in the house with the same set up as myself, with the same computer specks.....i could log into 3 of the 4 accounts so there just proved to me that it was not my issue but actually theirs. So as of the word I got from another source. They did state to me personally that it is in fact an internal issue on their end and are working on a resolve.

    Same Error 318 problem on my Main account @karmar2008 for the past couple of days. No problem on my alt account @Markar2008 and they both run off the same PC with the same files. I submitted a ticket and no response, I've tried everything as suggested so its definitely a problem on their end. Missing out on daily rewards, writs etc. Been a sub for life since release and never had an issue like this before. I hope its fixed soon as I have a day off today and am missing out on my game time as I only have Elsweyr on my Main account, I'm too poor to purchase another copy :(

    Please ZOS can you get the right team to look at this matter - trying to be patient (taps foot)

    @ZOS_GinaBruno I again can log into 3 of my other accounts but my main. I've been talking to a tech on the frontlines named Amy that said she's escalating my ticket to a specialized team. SO....hopefully I can too get a resolve plus would love to have the daily rewards I've lost along the way.
