The maintenance is Monday morning - Monday afternoon for me in the EU. Since I am your common employed guy who does daily shifts, there couldn't be a better time for the servers to go down for me.

As a common employed guy in the US, this starts before I go to work (while I'm sleeping) and concludes sometime around lunch-time for me... so when I get home I can download and start playing, so there couldn't be a better time for the servers to go down for me.

(It's almost like they planned it this way... so it happened for a majority of the player base  )

So... you want them to take the servers down in prime time for both EU AND NA instead...

I'm sorry that it's prime time for you in Australia, but to ask them to have them down in two MUCH larger playerbases during their prime time is not a reasonable request.

EU here. Stil dont find it normal servers to be down on release date.

Huh? They have to update the game on the servers... it's always going to be down for a period of time on release date.

The content can be easily released for download earlier
Wont be the first game who do that. Buy ye, we have what we have.

MMOs don't work that way. This isn't a single player game.

Rly ? Because it work perfectly in other mmos i play.
As i said, we have what we have.

perhaps if they weren't doing class changes, skill changes, balance changes, etc.. It's not just new content they release, they are adjusting the current content. You can't have people playing different versions with different rules...

They can still allow the download earlier and then to apply it when decide.
Download and aplpy are 2 diferent things you know

Then you'd have to have both the original version plus the large patch on your machine until the patch was activated and over-wrote much of the original, and people would be complaining about the space requirements. Besides, offering the download to players is only one part of the downtime, mostly it's about implementing the update on all the individual servers that make up the overall megaserver structure in both regions. SOE once counted up the number of individual pieces of hardware that had to be modified as part of an update for EQ and the figure was staggering and served to show how impressive it was that they got it done in the time it took!

There's never an easy solution for the players, someone always get hit whichever way you do it. What matters is that developers organise it the best way for them, that way it minimises the chance of it going wrong.

BY update i dont mean the entire updated game mate....
Dont tell me how it works because i use it more than 5y.
You donload it early. And then when is ready it autoapply. Without need to w8 X hours to download it after release. And without fe..g ZoS servers because everyone download it at the same time....

Ah yes, and every game uses the same type of server architecture where it can be done the same way.

Don’t be daft... if zos would be able to shorten the maintenance and offer an early download, wouldn’t you think they would do that ? They could change their systems maybe, but what would the cost be in terms of development effort and time... probably not worth it

Where you see me wanting zos to shorten the meintenance? All i said is that will be better if we are able to predownload patch to be rdy to apply it right after meintenance. So we wont need to w8 extra hour or so.

The EU server's maintenance is usually done at the same time as the NA one. Which is not that good of a time for Europeans.
I'm at work at that time so its an good time for me

So tired of these "Oh Aussies are *** again" posts. You know what, deal with it. Not everyone lives in the same timezone. Also it's not ZoS's fault that your ping is high. It's because Australia's internet connection sucks.

I live in Asia, I don't complain about my ping being 300+ all the time, nor do I complain about how Elsweyr is going to go live at midnight my time. You don't see Asians complain any of those. So stop your whinning and deal with it.

Btw, not even close, a handful of *** do not make up the majority. Not wise to generalize either. I mean, we could use the EU /Aussie generalization tropes that are aimed to make EU / Aussie look horrid and idiotic as well. But, lets not fall into those traps.

There is nothing false about the statement that Zenimax Online Studios is an American Company, headquartered in the United States.

The time they picked probably inconveniences the least amount of people. It's offline when a majority of people in NA/EU are at work. Yes, it stretches into some of early EU prime time, cuts off some of NA prime time the night before... They start the maintenance at 4:00 AM local time... they're making a sacrifice themselves to try and inconvenience the least amount of people. Good thing they don't start it at "normal" start time of 8:00 or 9:00 because it's "better" for them... then EU would lose their entire prime time on maintenance day...

Well, the company that sold the game to me was Zenimax Europe, located in London.
Regardless of where the game is made, or where it is purchased; it is sold in countries around the world as an online service.

For countries outside of the US to complain that the service is not available at a time that suits them (the players) is an entirely valid point. If it's a US-made game for US residents, it should not be sold to anyone outside of the US, if the same level of availability and support is not available to players outside the US.

It's been this way for years. As an Aussie you should know/expect it by now. It's the way it's always been when new content is released. You patch overnight/morning and play the next day. You're losing a few hours, big deal. The content will still be there come tomorrow afternoon.

This is an american game, they are going to go by american time that suits them as a company. No matter what time, someone in the world will loose out.

    LoL....
Why the heck then there is a EU server ?
Tipical murican way of thinking :D
    Thanks for the laugh

But there's always the concept of repeat business to consider, based on your own experiences.

I was referring to the quoted text in mine of "murica"...

I agree with your point, the problem is, given that the servers NEED to be taken down to do the update, and there are only 2 servers in the game, they have to pick a time that best fits their customers. I believe that they've done that, which is the second paragraph of my post. It might work differently in other games, with different server situations, etc... Is it going to inconvenience some people? Unfortunately, yes. Some because they are not in the primary geographical region. Some because they are "atypical" about when they have free time. I honestly believe that ZoS is not picking a time to try and keep as many people from playing as possible, after all, if people aren't playing, they aren't buying things. It's probably simpler, and they are less prone to mistakes, if they do both servers at the same time, which unfortunately does impact some in the EU who just want to play after they get home from work :disappointed:

So in roughly 15 hours 39 minutes the next chapter releases. Prime time playing for us. Then the servers go down for 6 hours?! So they come back up at midnight for us. What gives?? Can't do patch maintenance on a Sunday? So we can play? Nope too hard basket.

So... you want them to take the servers down in prime time for both EU AND NA instead...

Never played wow or guild wars? Server comes down for maybe 5 mins on expac release then goes back up

    How dreamy 😍

Well, it's a fairly new phenomenon. I still remember WoW patches which made the servers unplayable for almost a week... and repeated maintenances for that week. But now they figured it out pretty well.

Pretty much both servers are occupied by people from across the globe. There is not a good time for everyone and so it seem Zos chose times that are good for them.

Having servers offline during our prime-time playing hours gives us the opportunity to play other US based games that don't have as much unnecessary, Akamai-induced latency.

This is not 100% true a couple years back when I started playing I was able to get my ping to 180s if you actually go through the forums created by other aussies and read them there is actually pictures showing how over time zos servers have slowly been worse while internet here has been getting better

*sigh* I'd kill for the ping Aussies have.... and I live in the lower 48 - but my only connection is satellite. Guys, it could DEFINITELY be worse.
