I’m okay with this only because it’s a lot of work that goes into these mounts and it would be quite silly to only give it out to a small percentage of people who get that achievement. On the flip side they should have gave it more than just a golden saddle.
The vast majority of people playing this game do not care about the achievement. If they see this mount and like how it looks, then they will buy it. It's a cosmetic item to them. They won't have any idea that a similar mount is tied to an achievement in a trial. They certainly won't be buying it so people will think they're cool super awesome raiders. The fact that some of you people think that way says more about you then it does about them.

Imagine spending 600-800 crown gems, or 6000 crowns because you care THAT much about what others think of you. I think people can buy whatever they want with their own money, but if this is the sole reason they buy this limited time mount, then I think there's a personal issue here.
On the other hand, people getting this worked up over a mount that's only going to be around for 4 days at the most, worrying about being accidentally mistaken for a desperate wannabe scrub as if EVERYONE and their grandma is going to be running around with it is ludicrous and silly.
You can obtain the hard to earn, golden saddled trial version 24/7/365. And you're getting up in arms over a less fancy version with a 4 day obtainable window. Also consider how many people take breaks from this game, need save up money/crowns if they don't/do have a sub, and might not log in regularly to even catch this mount.
Yeah, seems a bit funny from perspective.
in trying to appease everyone- they end up undermining everything. classic zos...
Trials should NOT get ANY different rewards from anything else in the game.

the trial version looks like someone pissed on the saddle I would much prefer the leather look.

Do you want Crown Store items to be available by playing the game or should these fancy mounts remain Crown Store only?
Make up your minds.

Controversial? You mean as controversial as every other special snowflake casul? "Achievement elitism" is a the way someone chose to play so yea let's make it brain dead for all special snowflakes to have anything they want without moving a finger
P.S.
It's not as fun as doing quests for some for instance
Anyone praising this change is a scourge on this game
They just keep trying to remove any aspect of challenge to get rewards, it’s lazy and ZOS is going to milk them over and over while people who actually want a GAME just get a cash shop with RPG elements

No, people with inflated egos, which need constant massaging, are a scourge on every game.
Always have been, always will be.

So to be clear you think skilled players wanting a reward for all their hard work and time spent in the game are what bring a game down, not the people who want nothing to be exclusive to in-game player, who want all reward for skill played to be purchasable with next to no effort?

You did good on the DPS dummy(college), so now go into the trial(work) continue to work hard and I’m sure you will earn one.

The "reward" is supposed to be the fun of playing and the accomplishment of succeeding.
If you don't enjoy doing trials and you don't gain any kind of sense of accomplishment, from having completed them, just do yourself (and us all) a massive favour and stop doing them.
I got some wolf, or other, from killing Garrosh on HC (I think?) and didn't care that people could then buy fairly similar-looking ones (with gold), in the next xpac.
I guess I just don't care about stuff like this, in general.
What upsets me more, is if people are banned from ever getting a certain species/breed of mount, forever, just because a few selfish people (who probably don't even use it) have nothing better to worry about.
