Which is what most of us wanted them to do all along. Here's hoping.
As to the OP, one would HOPE, shoudl that come to pass, that they would be converted to a reasonable amount of actual crowns. But I wouldn't count on it.
I think it would be unfair if you couldn't exchange to crowns because you've put real money in gems as well

LOL the game was doing fine before Crown Crates and it will continue to be fine after Crown Crates. This game never needed the crates.
The shareholders do.
Except Zenimax Media Inc. (their parent company) is a private company. The only "shareholders" are their employees.

Ironic that some people want to get rid of the crates but don't want to lose their gems.
You can't have it both ways.

Do you really think ZoS is gonna completly remove crown crate because ONE country want to ban them ?
My god some people are really *** stupid

This is ironic. There are plenty of other countries that are changing their loot crate laws.

^ is from last year, there are probably other countries that have joined in with the fun but this was found through a simple google search
Its just the fault on parents being dumb to let kids play on game with lootbox, this bs would never happens if some adult knew how to controls their child and how they let them use the credit card

No one was talking about the fault being on the parents. I was simply showing you that the US isn't the only country trying to solve this problem.
Also, how's the view from up there?

Specifically, (1) how do you convert such an item to gems, and (2) do you just get one gem per converted item or are some items worth more gems?

You guys that are trying to hide behind the M rating are like someone trying to shield themselves from an oncoming train using a trash can lid.
Most of the people that write and pass these kind of laws barely even understand the things they pass laws on. Many don't even bother reading the laws before they vote in favor of them, some even going so far as to openly mock people who suggest that they should. The chances that ESO won't be impacted by a law concerning loot boxes are slim to none.
We've been through this sort of thing before. It's the reason the ESRB exists. All in the name of protecting children.
Whatever ZOS wants. Your account, characters and everything is their property.
& technically for ESO its NOT gambling in the legal sense... because the box is NEVER empty.

Baseball cards. Yeah, you know how you buy a pack of baseball cards without having any idea whether there's just going to be a bunch of trash cards that you already have dozens of, or that one super-rare card that's worth big bucks to a collector.
And McDonald's Monopoly game pieces, where you buy a drink or some fries and there's a game piece or two attached to the cup or whatever, and you don't know whether they're just going to be trash pieces that you already have dozens of, or that one super-rare piece that will win the game or be worth big bucks.
