Do you want ZOS to “fix” animation cancelling?

funny how "animation canceling" was never brought up during leveling a alt with the new leveling guide. also if it was intended to not have the animation just remove the damn things all together.

I think they tried and couldn't, so decided to call it a feature and be done with it. I'd rather it weren't a thing, but I'm not sure what I'd want them not to do to free up the resources to bang their heads against that wall. I don't think it's "fun," and I don't think the game does a good job of teaching it.

If we're talking specifically for console, I'd say yes. Everyone I know who plays on console struggles with getting bar shifts in their rotation, and often times, you can be pushing bar shift multiple times, and it just doesn't give you the change. Other times, you execute your button combos, but it doesn't always work due to lag or some some other issue. On console, it'd be nice to see them just buff damage abilities and get rid of animation cancelling (and work on the damned bar-swaps!) to make it easier to have clean runs through your rotation.

But again, they'd need to buff the ability damage in order to make this work because there is the potential to lose a lot of dps otherwise.

Finally someone spoke for the console community! I switched from PC to PS4, and I assure you that's the issue with the majority of players, whether new or old, doesn't matter. Also let's talk about how the dualshock can misinterpret your D-pad movements if you're not very careful. Another issue is not being able to remap buttons. It's either R3 jump, which is ridiculous and feels counter intuitive when you are used to X jump on the rest of the Playstation games, or X is jump AND interact, which is even worse.

I like the current speed of combat. Wouldn't want to see it slowed.

It is in the guide... Level 40 I think, just saw it a couple days ago when levelling my newest alt.

"For maximum damage activate an ability right after a light attack". Or some such wording. It's describing weaving, which when done fast enough is animation cancelling...

Derp moment... Just saw @zyk beat me to it. Time for bed I think! Lol

Not sure there is a way for Zos to change animation canceling with the way the game was designed to be a copy from the console games. I think something should added to the tutorial to inform new players about this style of play however. The only reason I even knew about it was from watching a Dottz video a few weeks ago when I had just started playing the game.

The only reason I watched the video is because I'm the must have the best race for each class and wish to maximize the most out of my game play type person. Not everyone coming into this game will go watch videos on YouTube to figure this stuff out and not knowing how this feature works does seem to gimp their dps.

You do realize animation canceling is not difficult at all right? It's a legitimate question, no one is crying, it's a discussion ever tried to have one of those?

A "fix" I would suggest is to place damage/healing being done at the END of the animation. But then other parts of the game would have to change and would the end result be better or worse? Unclear. I do like the idea of speeding up animations.

Animation cancelling is this game's biggest design problem, and needs to get gone, fast!

I have better idea, not only “fix” animation cancelling, also make all top gear with same resistance numbers, light = medium = heavy, also make only 3 sets for tank stamdd and magdd. and delete all other sets. Also make all hp/stamina/magicka equal for all players. And all outgoing damage will do flat 1000 points of damage!!!!

Bring equality to this game, so all players will be equal...

Hope you got my point. Ty.

To me, animation cancelling isn't a problem at all. It's essential for fluid combat and I think all games implement it at some level -- though it can't always be gamed for an advantage. I think many players who criticize it would hate ESO without animation cancelling.

Like if you had to wait for an animation to complete fully before swapping bars, that would be really annoying for pretty much everyone.

What I think many people dislike is the light attack+ability mechanic specifically. It doesn't bother me in PVP because combat is more dynamic and I don't find myself continuously attacking for very long, but I find it to be extremely tedious in PVE.

Plus I've had the left mouse button on 3 new mice die from the constant left clicking!

I don't propose changing it, but I feel combat would have been more intuitive if perhaps we used 1-5 to select abilities and left click to activate them.
