Reflecting on all the class nerfs from Zenimax / ESO becoming a garbage game for casual gamers

Agreed a million percent with the OP. the point of a nerf is to bring hardcore players down in power to be closer to the casual players, not to hurt the casual players.

Any nerf must be designed with this in mind.

lol have you played eso Pvp in the last years? Solo and smallscale players have got nerfed more and more. Now the Dmg /Cheese Gap between an exceptional good player and someone who can open Youtube to check for builds is smaller then ever.
The biggest Problem with new Players vs. Veteran Players is really CP as plain and simple as that. There are to much CP for a healthy balance between no-CP, low Cp and max CP. CP passive Potency must be nerfed hard and Base stats of sets and other passives need to be buffed.

Okay, but if we take a step outside of PvP land, he's totally right. All of these constant, significant changes hurt casual players far more than it does the hardcore playerbase, because they can easily farm gear / change gear out quickly and adjust their builds far more easily than casuals. No other MMO would even consider making as many sweeping changes as ESO does on a quarterly basis. The horizontal progression system comes with as many problems as it does solutions, at least with the way Zenimax has chosen to implement it.

Nightblade tears, disguised as advocating for new and casual players. Nice twist.

No kidding. An actual list advocating for "casual" players (whatever the hell that means) wouldn't fixate on competitive gaming aspects like dungeons, trials, and dps... much less a massive whine about one class.

Where's your stuff about housing, OP? The crafting system? Outfitting? The high cost of items in the crown store? The difficultly of making gold as a new player without a trading guild? The OP is basically missing ALL of the stuff that is actually a barrier to new or non-competitive players of this game.

Casual players sustain this market. Its almost impossible to satisfy endgame players, they are hungry to more and more content hard content and casual just turn around to a safer choice.
Keep clear that endgame players dont make a game to profitable.
Dont blame casuals if you cant adapt. Every single class got the same treatment.

If you wear full sets that fit your playstyle and have a consistent rotation that isn't overly complicated/wasteful most content in this game will be doable especially if you have around 300+ CP. In my opinion ESO is probably the best mmo for casuals, while still offering difficult content for those who want it.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

all these nerfs/complaints yet i still see A player here and there use the run/hide/restore health out of nowhere/use broken terrain/set builds sustain forever against 12 players or more?? What is the point of these running scared builds other then lasting as long as possible for a stream or youtube video?? these are not good players, PvP players fight not run in circles lol

There are dual pet builds that come close to us while taking resources just so we will chase them so they can sustain inside some rocks/trees as long as they can lol. i mean what kind of person is thia. We call them "sustainers" not PvP'ers cause they dont actually fight anyone

Normal trials are meant for casual players and are very puggable. You can rally up a group in zone chat and clear pretty much every normal trial. You don't even need to be above 300CP to clear normal trials.
    Excaltic wrote: »
    - DLC dungeon's = (Veteran) Content not meant for casual players / pug groups ==> Too difficult to get rewards / gear = NO REASON TO PLAY (READ: PAY FOR) OR RETURN TO THIS GAME
Normal DLC dungeons can be cleared by casuals and pugs. Normal DLC dungeons can be beaten just by light attacking your way through the dungeons or by spamming a single skill. But you are correct in that veteran content is not made for casuals, it is designed to give players a challenge. However, not being able to complete veteran content doesn't deprive you from completing the content itself. Normal Fungal Grotto and Veteran Fungal grotto are the same exact dungeon, with the same lore, the same quest, the same bosses, and the same enemies. Pretty much the only difference is that in veteran the enemies hit harder, have more health, and maybe have an additional mechanic or two. But it is the same dungeon, it's just that one is designed for more of a challenge. Again: Same content, one just hits harder.
    Excaltic wrote: »
DPS difference between casual gamers (just spamming some dots & attacks) and addicts with macro-rotations/animation cancelling is about a 500% difference in DPS, which is absurd and completely unbalanced = NO REASON TO PLAY (READ: PAY FOR) OR RETURN TO THIS GAME
So the only two categories which gamers can fall under are "Casuals" and "Addicts"? Interesting. The difference in DPS is not related to game balance, but rather experience. If someone is only going to spam light attacks and wear blue gear they will simply not do as much DPS as someone who has spent the time to theorycraft and mathematically tune their build and rotation to get the highest DPS. That would be like arguing that soccer is unbalanced because a casual soccer player can't run as fast or get as many goals as someone who is more experienced who has practiced. Higher skill and experience will result in higher results, that's just a fact in life.
    Excaltic wrote: »
Ongoing nerfs only harm the casual gamers, not the addicts who just change their macro-rotation a little.
Again with the "addicts"? Nerfing a skill affects anyone who uses that skill whether they are casual or more experienced. However, what they do with those changes, how they handle them, and how they adapt is up to the player.

Please start making ESO a great game for casual gamers instead of destroying it for them Zenimax.

Stop listening to demands of the "pro's" and start thinking about casuals which keep on leaving the game like this... and will lead to the closing of ESO servers in the end...

ESO is already one of, if not the, most casual-friendly MMOs on the market. The vast majority of content is casual-friendly: Overland zones, quests, public dungeons, delves, normal dungeons, normal trials, normal arenas, Cyrodiil, battlegrounds, housing, crafting, fishing, roleplaying, all of those things can be done by casuals. The only things which might be more challenging for them are veteran modes of the normal content. But again: It is the SAME content, it's just that one hits harder. Normal Fungal Grotto is the same dungeon as veteran Fungal Grotto. Normal Cloudrest +3 is the same content as Veteran Cloudrest +3. The only difference is that one version hits harder, enemies have more health, and maybe has an additional mechanic or two. But the point is that you can still travel into the dungeon/trial and experience the content (quest, lore, enemies, bosses, gear, etc).

ESO is extremely casual-friendly and offers a massive amount of content for players who want to play it casually. It also offers more difficult content for other players who wish to challenge themselves. But the difficult content is the same as the normal content, so casual players are not missing out on the content itself. Even a lot of veteran content is casual-friendly. Most non-dlc veteran dungeons/trials can be beaten by players with 20k DPS, and 20k DPS is not that difficult to reach.

Clickbait title suggests a thread covering the nerfs to all classes coming in the Elsweyr patch. Post only QQs about the poor already existing state of magicka nightblade in pvp and rants about game being unfriendly to casuals. Magicka nightblade does need love in pvp, but the post only makes several different claims without a coherent point. Made me laugh at least.

P.S. Game is already very casual friendly. Most casual friendly MMO on the market, I'd bet money on it. I play less than 8 hours a week and I can pull 50k+ self buffed dps in pve and hold my own in pvp.

Bro, there is one interesting thing about NBs in trials (and it's only place where you may be concerned with "nerfs"). The lesser their % in group the more powerful remaining became, due to that huge dps spike provided by as you called it "useless" Impale.
It's obviously devs wants to be magblade actual BLADE, i.e. class relying on melee for most efficiency, while still being able to operate at distance when conditions require it. It's hard to say now how it will end up to the U22 release but as for now I'm tempted but this changes, because they bring something new instead of same build/rotation we are using on magblades like forever.
Stamblades were overperforming both in PVP and PVE, so that nerf though frustrating is justified.

yup i think the devs are catering way too much to the top 1% literally those are probably statistic of actual players that finish/engage in that content, the way ffxiv published raid numbers and USA not even .8% of players even tried raiding

all these changes, additional content, is like theyve been listening to an echo chamber of useless information from people who think they know whats best for the game. i think the class rep system is a mistake, just pigeon holes builds and doesnt offer variety/ diversity in builds

and all true about all the new content being veteran / high end garbage nobody touches, its content nobody wants, if you end up in a DLC dungeon the tank and healer immediately quit , and you the dps whose been sitting there 1 hour for the chance at a dungeon, gets to slog through the worst fight design possible

its just bad. like the reason people come to ESO isnt tryhard PVE content , DPS meters, etc, i guarantee they know this, they have their own statistics and know not even 1% of their playerbase engages in the hard mode content

    Message to Zenimax game design:
You might want to make your game MORE enjoyable for casuals instead.
This game is already extremely enjoyable for casuals. You can do quests, craft, ride your horse through the land and enjoy the scenery, experience the lore, become a criminal and so much more. How do you suppose people make things more enjoyable for casuals?

Also all the things you listed are reasons to play, if you don't like it that much, nobody is forcing you to keep going. If you're looking for 0 challenge just play a single player game where you can be the most overpowered thing in it.

And to trail off my post which was rudely removed by a dev - what I read in your original post: "I'm afraid of challenges".

Sort of. Casual players are drawn away from the game quicker than more hard core raiders. Hard core raiders typically have guilds they running or raids that draw 11 players into the same circumstance.

A casual player is WAY more likely to dump the game when ES:6 starts or they get bored of <Insert chapter here> and just quit till next update. Remember if they aren't playing Cash shop means nothing. And this game is run by cash shop funds.

if you want a legit break down of what sustains a game, look at ffxiv because they are transparent with their statistics on a yearly basis, and make changes accordingly. ZOS on the other hand are tight lipped and do nothing/say nothing regarding their cash shop/ content pipeline, etc. they have a level of hubris something like ffxiv lost when they re-booted the game
there's no glorifying this game in all its flaws, it should be rebooted, because its at a point now they are trying to make it a game it was never meant to be. even from a framework standpoint, its a mess. lets hope for e3 they announce some rework/retooling, and extensive overhauls because this is bad

also when it comes to ffxiv they are also transparent as devs in regards to content direction/ pipeline for new content, why they are making changes etc. zos on the other hand are just "hurr you like dragons right?!" theres a clear lack of competency when it comes to zos, they can barely keep the lights on

I'll say this much, I am not thrilled with the PTS changes to warden currently. But I do not want the content to be altered to be any easier than it currently is. I used to think vMA was too difficult, then I got my first clear after nearly 2 years running. Then a little bit later I got flawless. This game requires time investment to get better, that's just the reality of it.

If you really want to make the game casual friendly then we need to implement ways for people to play the classes freely and not be tied down to a main character. I love my Stamina Warden to death, don't get me wrong. But I would love to try out a stamplar or a magdk in PvP but the fact that any achievements I get on them won't be on my warden keeps me from making alts.

I just think its time to make achievements, titles, etc account wide. The addition of the skyshards is fine in my book. If you've gotten them before then you can get them again, no point wasting time doing content you don't enjoy a second time.
    PvP needs more love.

I'd be lying if i said removing weaving and making DPS more about game knowledge rather than reflex timing wouldn't make me happy. But it's definitely a unique combat system, and it's not *THAT* hard to learn. Even just doing light attacks between your skills without animation canceling isn't that hard, and once you get into the rhythm of it it's fun.

You have to keep in mind that nightblades made up about 20-30% of the classes found in raids. none below 20%. then classes like warden didn't have almost any above 10% usage. This'll encourage people to try new characters, but it's not going to ruin them. Except for pvp, where they were already a lost case and idk why people insist on continuing to play them if they hate playing them so much.

It is we casual players who pay the bills. After launch many players left because it was more difficult than fun.
The game difficulty was reduced and the player base expanded again. Simple economics.

Hard content shouldn’t be completed unless you’re good, that’s the point. If you don’t want to put any effort into anything, run normal dungeons and normal trials.

It takes all of 10 minutes messing around on a dummy to figure out the basics of animation cancelling and weaving, so if you can’t be bothered to learn that, why should anything be catered to that level of apathy?

I never heard people quit ESO on launch because of difficulty. They just said "its a bad game" or "Its not Elder Scrolls enough". In general difficulty has increased overall compared to launch dungeons. There is a reason that One Tamerial made the game feel more Open World like. To draw in the Elder Scrolls feel.

    Nightblade tears...

    ...so salty.

By typing here what you think makes a good class or breaks it, you have just proven that you have absolutely no idea how this game and combat in this game works.

"you are nerfing my class, and I am casual, therefore you are nerfing casuals"
is SUCH a self centered entitled approach.

You literally made no sense. Are you that absentminded that you dont realize most people have every class?

Nightblade tears, disguised as advocating for new and casual players. Nice twist.

Nightblade was the second biggest new player carry in the game anyways, after petsorcs.

You said reflecting on ALL the class skills, these are just NB class skills. But then it seems like stamblades especially feel the world revolves around them lol. 10/10 post, will never not be funny watching stamblades cry about nerfs.

They can nerf the game all they want to, casual players will still suck because they lack skill. Period. And they’ll still cry for nerfs and STILL get wrecked.

    ZOS Can’t balance skill.
