Since The Witcher is no longer being produced they should buy the rights to that franchise and make it into an MMO.

A Fallout MMO? I know they have Fallout 76, but I am thinking maybe a standard MMO that is not "survival" based.

At multiple times, I have considered that. Most recently, something to "rescue" the franchise from the fallout of FO76. Pun intended. At this point, I think ZOS could have done better with Fallout Online than Bethesda Game Studios did with Fallout 76.

It does seem like they are doing something along the same lines as ESO. Definitely has PVE. However, I can definitely wait. As a matter of fact, it is unlikely that the game will interest me. I don't think it will be a fantasy or post apocalypse game, since those are well represented in the ZM family. ZM is woefully lacking in science fiction and space related RPG games, a gap that Starfield sounds like it is filling, but there could be room there for ZOS.

I have yet to find a science fiction or space related RPG game that I like. Either the game universe is too quirky and strange or the implementation is lacking. If ZOS is heading there, I am unlikely to be interested. About the only IP that they could grab that would pull me in is properly done Known Space game, and I doubt that is happening.

Edit: There are bunch of other things that they could do besides fantasy and SF, but I would be really surprised if they interested me.

my gut kinda did tell me that zos is entering their endgame in eso with elsweyr as they seem to go all out now with regards to necromancer and dragons....

Sorry, I find it quite funny, since my gut tells me that ESO just enters its second prime time after One Tamriel. Just look at how many changes they bring with Elsweyr (updates to PVP, PVE), new lore, new quest mechanics. MMO in their endgame usually make less bold moves

Of course they’re going to make another game.

They’re now in a very comfortable position with Elder Scrolls Online. It’s been going 5 years, the population seems healthy (if a bit of a burden to current server loads) and it has a thriving community.

They have their cadence of content worked out and in what they assume is a sweet spot, and can continue to put the content out for years to come with the dedicated ESO teams.

I know that a couple of staff have gone from ESO team onto the new game, but they have in all likeliness been replaced.

I assume the new game’s team will be entirely separated from ESO, and will focus solely on that new game. So it’s fine for them to dip their toes into new waters.

The only thing I wonder about is putting out a new mmo when the genre isn’t as popular as once it was, with a new and untested IP. The reason ESO has kept alive is because it’s Elder Scrolls. It has some awesome stuff about it, but if this game were an unknown IP, it probably would not have seen the 5 year mark.

That said though, I’m very curious as to what the new game is and I look forward to hearing more.

ESO 2.0 seems very very very unlikely....for what? They can probably press another 5 years out of it. By the time it starts running dry, TES VI will come around the corner and rekindle the ESO flame...

    I want ESO 2.

Same. ZOS gets criticized a lot (and rightfully so in some cases), but they've come a long with learning this game. Launch was in an identity crisis for years and their choice for an engine (Hero is infamously horrible) will always leave this game with bad performance. I'd love for them to take another shot at ESO with the knowledge they have now instead of continuously trying to bandage ESO1.

Whatever this will be, it won't be ESO 2.
There is absolutely no reason to re-create the same game.
ESO succeeded and it will only create confusion to have 2 almost identical games.
The new game will probably be about a world completely different than The Elder Scrolls universe.

PC EU main: Universe - AD magicka Sorcerer, Former Emperor, Grand Overlord, The Merciless, Trial Bosses Solo Champion
Top alts: Genius(stamina/sagicka Dragonknight) The Force(stamina Nightblade) and other chars.
PC NA main: The Magic - AD magicka Sorcerer

Well, now I understand why ESO doesn't get much of new mechanics and old ones do evolve quite slowly. I was wondering how is it possible for such a popular and healthy game getting CP system in a sleep mode for half of a year now. ESO online population stays at first 10-15 places in Steam's statistics, and Steam is not a main platform I believe, we also have players who've purchased the game on official web site and we have PS and XBox.
Some people say there's no players but ESO actually has quite big and stable player base. Yet we have quite slow progression of the game. Yes, there are new zones and dungeons every year, but there's not that much of "core" mechanics progress in the game. A lot of reskinned mounts, a lot of furniture assets, but no new housing features, for example.

So, what I think is ESO is in some kind of "soft maintenance mode", I would say. It's not the mode where the game just stays at the same place but the mode where it gets new content but doesn't get significant big changes. Also, some of us have noticed that Elsweyr looks quite a small thing, some of us do think that it's not enough for a chapter. Now I understand why.

What do I think about the new game. It's not an ESO2 nor is it a Fallout Online, because it's "new IP". It's an MMORPG with PvE, because "puzzles and mini games", and because ZOS are MMORPG makers.
If it's a some kind of Star Wars type of games, in futuristic space setting, I'm not interested. If it's a fantasy setting, I would definitely try it out. And I think they have an opportunity to implement some features they can't in ESO, such as flying mounts.

What is the future of ESO. I'm pretty sure ESO will get new zones, and some day it will get all Tamriel fullfilled. There's just no reason to kill the game, it's in a very good shape currently.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

Yeah except thats not at all what happened with FFXI and FFXIV, or GW and GW2, Lineage and Lineage 2. So far the opposite has been true for the only MMOs to do this.

considering they have a massive studio and they are actually owned by a larger publisher / company that owns a buttload of successful and recognizable IP's as well as their own MMO engine and server architecture. . .

this is not surprising in the least, I would be more surprised If they NEVER expanded to more games

a lot of the work is already done (engine, servers, man power) im sure the will expand to handle two games at once (usually you hire a buttload of people for initial development then let a lot of them go post launch)

I would have suggested a fallout MMO about a year ago but with 76 I don't know if that would be too close even though they will be radically different games, and would still love to see a fallout mmo.

other IP's are (but not limited to)
    -dishonored (love these games)
    -doom (BFG division anyone?)
    -elder scrolls (obviously)
    -fallout
    -the evil within
    -prey
    -quake
    -rage
    -starfield
    -Wolfenstein

it could be a completely new IP but the cash is in MMO versions of existing IP's (easy to market and established audience / lore / gameplay / etc.)

im still leaning towards fallout, especially because mainline fallout games use the same engine as elder scrolls games, so the mmo versions could use the same to keep the consistency off "this is what the mmo version looks like" and fallout has massive appeal (iirc fallout 4 is Bethesda's best selling game) and it would not completely bite into 76's audience as they are very different games.

in fact you would have a spectrum between single player experience all the way up to full blown MMO.

so im still betting on fallout, what do you all think?

Wait you left out hexen and that western shooter i forget the name of that was awesme in the 90's

I have no idea what sort of game "Starfield" will be, and am dubious that ZOS would be using this IP. Possible, though. It does meet a definition of "new IP".
