They will continue to produce content for ESO as long as it is profitable, rest assured.

I would look at this as somewhat of a positive thing since ESO is profitable enough for them to expand their IP. If ESO was dying and they were going bankrupt then I doubt they would be expanding thier offerings.

I would prefer that they put all the money back into ESO for my own selfish reasons, but I can't blame them for wanting to diversify.

O wont play anymore big studio IP mmos. All the talented veterans of the genre started their own companies or went crowd funded indie projects. The genre is now a corporate McDonalds franchise . Appeal to the easy money churn population throw up a cash shop and produce big macs and happy meals for all to eat.

ESO will stay open as long as it makes a minimal profit and helps draw players in to other Bethesda/ZOS content, no matter which staff stays or moves on to other projects over time.

There's no reason to expect a successful game to shut down at a studio that is doing well enough to start yet another project.

You obviously have not been paying attention to how Bethesda/Zenimax Media the (The parent company of ZOS and Bethesda) operate.
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gaming/what-to-play/bethesdas-pete-hines-another-publisher-would-be-spitting-out-skyrim-2-a-year-later/

“It’s rare to have franchises like the ones we have and to have people joking about “when is Skyrim 2 coming out?” says Hines. “The reason they say that is because generally speaking that’s what you’d be getting with another publisher in charge. They’d be spitting out a Skyrim 2 the year after or two years later. That’s just not how we view it. We’re not the sort of publisher that focusses on 'what’s our 25 titles for 2015'.

"We do smaller stuff, we don’t publish to scale, we try to publish to quality. Make sure everything we do is noteworthy. Our approach to that hasn’t differed. Here and there we might change our approach to how it’s presented but we’ve still stuck to who we are.”

Skyrim was the most successful game in the history of the company. They were selling DLC ahnd over fist, they could have continued selling DLC for Skyrim for another 5-6 years if they wanted to, yet they stopped after Dragonborn and moved on to the next adventure.

How profitable ESO is or isn't won't be the driving factor in keeping it open. Zenimax/Bethesda is NOT other game studios. They don't operate like other game studios, they don't do things like other game studios. This is why they are so successful. ESO had a 5 year plan at launch, that was set back nearly 2 years due to console releases...trust me...Bethesda/Zenimax always has plans and goals they choose to meet, they are not going to run things forever, they pride themselves on NOT being the Blizzards, and EA of videos games.

Furthermore, Bethesda/Zenimax based on their history seems to actively encourage their game devs and studios to pursue new ideas and options to keep things fresh and to expand their IP catalog. The best example of this is Battlecry Studios(Now known as Bethesda Game Studios Austin) was brought in to work on a brand new project with help from ID in creating the netcode and online functionality for Fallout 76.

Of Course ZOS is working on a new game.

They have been working on ESO since 2007 (11 years now) I am sure they are getting sick and tired of it by now.
How would all of you like to be stuck at the same job working and doing the same exact thing for 11 years?

Yeah, I already see pilots dumping their planes mid air, doctors doing seppuku to their patients, bakers baking rocks instead of dough... - they all got sick of doing same job for 30-40 years! Same airlines, same problems, same pastries...

Pffft, millenials and their 1-2yr work attention span. :)

    Oh sweet Mother Earth....

If you look at anyone still working the same job in 10 years those people were either:

    1. Given substaintal pay raises and benefits every year.
    2. Their workload at the company is shuffled a bit every year to 18 months to added new responsibilities and work task to their plate so they are not left board doing the same repetitive nonsense day in and day out.

Comparing Dr, Aircraft pilots, etc to game developers is not even in the same ballpark let alone the same city. Video game developers are like artists, and some of them ARE artists, and as an artist, you can get burned out when your stuck working with the same exact canvas for years, its stunts your creative growth.

    https://www.businessnewsdaily.com/8144-workers-burned-out.html

A new study from Kronos Incorporated revealed that employee burnout is a huge factor in why many organizations struggle to hold on to their top workers. Specifically, 46 percent of human resources leaders blamed employee burnout for up to half of their annual workforce turnover, with nearly 10 percent saying burnout causes more than 50 percent of their yearly turnover.

Too much work and not enough money are the leading contributors to employee burnout. The study found that 41 percent of the people surveyed attribute burnout, in part, to unfair compensation, while 32 percent blame it on unreasonable workloads. Another 32 percent said a huge cause is too much overtime and having to work after-hours.

As the economy continues to improve and employees have more job options, companies will have to provide more compensation, expand benefits and improve their employee experience," Schawbel said. "Managers should promote flexibility and ensure that employees aren't overworked, in order to prevent employee burnout that leads to turnover."
    https://www.vg247.com/2013/06/13/todd-howards-next-game-looking-awesome-dont-expect-news-on-it-anytime-soon/

Todd Howard, at this point, has earned the right to do what the hell he wants; nobody gets to tell him different and nobody gets to dictate to him what he gets to do. “You’re laughing because you know it’s true. - Pete Hines VP PR Bethesda

    https://www.vg247.com/2017/09/29/bethesda-fan-criticisms-wont-define-what-we-do/

“We’re aware of it, but we’re not going to let it define what we do,” “Ultimately, we’re going to try and do the things that we think are the best for the games that we’re making, because that’s, honestly, all I can really control. - Pete Hines VP PR Bethesda

Hines made it clear that his development teams “aren’t just a vending machine where you press for the soda and they just go back and forth – they want to be able to stretch their legs creatively, or try a new idea, or do something different and not just fall into the same pattern.” - Pete Hines VP PR Bethesda

He pointed to an example of another development team’s success this year, praising Guerilla Games’ for stepping away from Killzone to create Horizon Zero Dawn. “It might be my favorite game this year,” he said. Pete Hines VP PR Bethesda

“I think you see a lot of developers do that, and quite honestly, if we didn’t have folks break from it then you don’t get Horizon Zero Dawn. Like, how unbelievable is that game? And if [Guerrilla] just stayed on that path for what they were known for, you’d never get that game.

“I think that’s true of a lot of studios, right? You don’t get The Last of Us if [Naughty Dog] just kept churning out Uncharted games.

Do you get it now? Pete Hines gets it, and so does Zenimax Media and their corporate people.

Its unreasonable to expect "The best" developers in the gaming industry to be stuck working on and updating the same damn game for 13 years or more. Most of the people at ZOS that were there at launch are still their (Firor, Lambert, Jessica, Gina, and many others) As artist and creators you don't think they don't want to work on something else at some point?

Zenimax/Bethesda isn't other game studios, they don't give a damn what other companies like Everquest, Blizzard, etc do with their games. Hines told you they are NOT going to let fans dictate what they do. They will do what they want to on their timetables, and at this point it isn't unreasonable to let ZOS stretch their creative legs and work on something else besides the The Elder Scrolls Online. If ZOS never gets to step away from ESO some truly great gems of games, ideas they have may never come to fruition. they will need all hands on deck for a brand new IP they won't have the manpower to keep messing with ESO, you either put 100% of your heart into something or you don't, those are the passions that drive game devs, and thats what drives Zenimax/Bethesda,

if Bethesda never moved on from Oblivion we never would have had Skyim, had Bethesda not took a break from TES we never would never get Starfield. Their is a lot to look forward too, I am sure ZOS has some fantastic ideas for a new game in a new world, and it would be unreasonable to not let them pursue that. Who knows you just may find it to be really fun after all. sometimes change is good to keep things fresh. Not only for us players, but for ZOS and their devs as well.

A doom mmo would be so awesome. A 1st person shooter with several player hubs to drink beer and hang out. Then go to infected hubs to battle loads of monsters with your mates.

There was a mod voor Doom2 having this and it was awesome.

The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Because it's not about keeping the players it's about selling more boxes and creating things to sell at the souvenir/convenient store. There is no permanent community in ESO. But still profitable
