Well I have named my main Dunmer Mag DK
Lilith Nyrandil as I name Dunmers that way since a long time ago, it was the only way I could name my char <3

    As for the rest:
FrostDen is named Lazuli Frostcaller, RPG Ice Mage.

Warden Healer is named Licks-Broken-Scales cuz well I wanted something fun and bit wild.

DK Healer was named while it was still argonian: Mends-With-Burning-Desire (feel free to take it for yourself)
now it is named Frelene Agnis - Frelene was name of Breton healer we could optionally save in TES III Morrowind from certain prison (note my Dk healer is now Breton) as for Agnis I took it from fire god Agni and added S to make it sound more breton-ish.

I have plenty more but those are the ones I gave most thought.

This thread really came back from nowhere, but I'll always take a moment to explain my character's names XD

Aren'dra - came from me messing around with the name Amanda until it sounded suitably khajiiti. I got lucky and found the book about khajiiti honorifics only after I started playing XD So the 'dra part was a total accident, but it fits!

Danara-jo - made this one with the knowledge of the honorifics and had jo in mind for an ancient scholar. Messed around with some words and the name was made!

Lost-in-his-Wanderings - I had this name in mind for several months before I got the game. It just sounds cool to me, honestly XD

Rugan the Wayfarer - Got Rugan from looking at Orsimer names and messing around with some spelling. He's a traveler, so wayfarer just fit.

Paints-the-Skies - Just thought it would fit for a storyteller.

Furrin-ko - fur actually means thief in google translate for i think latin? Interesting.

Completely-Innocent - Thought this would be funny XD she's a thief through and through, so whenever a guard asks 'what's your name?' after she commits a crime, she can just say, "I'm completely innocent", and get away in the confusion.

    I like threads like these..

Halfway Dead - Male Bosmer Stamblade. He was my first character and I didn't expect him to stick around forever, just wanted to get on and play around before making my "real" character, but if I considered any a main it would be him. The name is still appropriate though, as he seems to die whenever the wind blows too hard. I'll be slicing through mo'foes like "I'm unstopab.. oh, nope, I'm dead again".

Demag're - Male Breton Sorcerer. His name is an anagram of Red Mage, one of the Final Fantasy classes, and my main class in FFXI for years.

Nede'smore Mead - Male Nord DK Tank. Cause I like beer, and so do nords. Probably my most lore-friendly name. This is the character who focuses on the main quest lines the most, the rest get side-tracked very easily, but Nede'smore hates Daedra.

Little Red Corvette - Female Bosmer Warden - She's my crafter. I wanted to name her She's Crafty (Beastie Boys song), but it was taken. After giving her red hair the Prince song Little Red Corvette popped in my head, so I went with it. It's appropriate as she wears all speed+ gear with the steed mundus, nice for getting around town and doing maps and what-not.

Summerset Barbie - Female High Elf summoner healer. Like Malibu Barbie, Tamriel style. Prolly my most Obnoxious name.

Fuzzie Navel - Male Khajiit Magblade - This was the name of my main from the MMO I was playing before coming here, who was also a cat person.

Lily Squirrel - Female Imperial Warden Tank - All the cute-rodent names were taken so I had to give her a first name. I already have a "Little" in the garage so I went with Lily.

Sam's Bloody Rage - Male Redguard Stamina DK. This is an homage to my Diablo 2 days, where all my characters were the embodiment of some guy named Sam's emotions. Like the journals they found in the house in Fight Club. The first of which, and my favorite to play, was a Leap Barbarian named Sam's Bloody Rage.

My first is Cairgen as a different way to spell kargen.

Next was Shirley I Jest a short little male Bosmer (I think he is a Bosmer) because I thought it was funny.

Miya Tearsong is my main and mostly heals. Tearsong came from the DragonLance Chronicles and I just liked how Miya went with it.

Have a lizard named Swims-Like-Nord. He is a tank.

My other characters have Hopi names that are suppose to fit with how I thought I would play them. One translates to Wrestles Left Handed. I think the Hopi names fit well with the game in sound and meaning for many of the races.

I like their names to fit the character, even if it's only apparent to me. I also like them to look lore friendly, at least at first glance, but I'm willing to bend the rules to get something I like.

Danielle Aurorel - breton warden. Danielle is just a name I like, Aurorel is a combination of the Latin aurora (dawn) and the Quenay elen (star), so dawn star. Yes she's a follower of Azura, but I've been using this name in RPGs for about 15 years, since before I played a TES game so that's coincidental. In this game it's not her real family name, she changed it when she left home because her parents thought she'd embarrass them and get herself killed. (They were only 1/2 right.)

I've also got a khajiit templar called Danika Aurorel, which is a variant on the same name. (Amusingly, to me, Danika, normally spelled Danica, means morning star, but I didn't know that when I picked it. I just thought it sounded like a khajiiti form of Danielle). The family name is adopted, after she met my warden and they decided to team up.

I also have an argonian nightblade called Dawns-Star, who is the 3rd variation of that character. (Yes it probably is weird to have variations of the same character in the same game at the same time, but I like them all so I'm keeping them.)

Ember Wolfbane - nord dragonknight. Her real name is Eleanor but no one calls her that. She got the nickname Ember for her red hair and her temper. Wolfbane is a family name, from her great-grandfather who headed the defence against a werewolf attack. She likes to image she's following in his footsteps, but she'd actually do better if she didn't have such a high opinion of herself.

Ilorwerth - dunmer sorcerer. I looked up dunmer names, didn't really like any of them but they reminded me of Welsh, so I looked up old Welsh names. Ilorwerth is a variant spelling of Iorwerth, which means 'fair lord'. Fitting for the only son of a wealthy sorcerer. (Also the nickname is Iolo, pronounced yolo, which I find highly amusing because he'd hate it.)

Sayel, my bosmer nightblade (/thief/assassin/vampire) is a bit of an anomaly. That's literally just a word I thought sounded like a bosmer name, but apparently bosmer names don't mean anything so that fits.

And then there's Sagittam Ad Genu, my imperial crafter/dragonknight and prime example of the 'lore appropriate only at first glance'. It's in Latin so it works as an imperial name, right? If you know Latin and know he's a retired soldier turned crafter after he got injured it's even more appropriate - it means 'arrow to the knee'.

As an RP'er, my toons tend to have proper-ish names with an actual background and meaning to them. (Not that other peoples names dont, they just need to have one for me.)

Sa'hira Ivyrock - My main. Bosmer StamBlade.
RP - Her first name is her grandmothers name whom was a very sweet woman. Her last name symbolizes the evergrowing green of her forrest home and the ever ongoing strength and tenacity of the rock that her family prides themselves on.
Non-Rp - For her first name I sat there for about 10 minutes staring at the keyboard. I put a bunch of letter together trying to string a good name out of it Sa'hira is what I came up with. As for her last name, I tried making something that was bosmer sounding. Also, original toon created at launch. She has been the same since release.

Telirim Andorinh - Vampire HighElf MagSorc
RP - His past is dead to him after his turning. He cares not for his history anymore. His soul purpose in life now is to protect the one who saved his life by turning him.
Non-rp - I tried to make it sound as highelfish as possible. Making it sound like he came from a royal or at least high ranking family.

    Tim-Tam - Argonian MagDK tank
RP - Named by his adoptive Khajiiti trader parents (they found him as an egg on their travels on the side of the road) after a really exotic sweet treat they were eating when they found him. Since he was raised by Khajiit, he speaks with their verbal tendencies.
Non-rp - To be honest, I had a really difficult time naming him. Until I looked at the bag of Timtams I was eating and then it fell into place.

    Torvitz - Khajiit StamDk
RP - Torvitz is the short hand for his name. His full name is... get ready... Kerblanosporgraltentorvitz the Tenth. His ancestor changed his name on a bet for a lot of money. Since that event, he and all his ancestors up until him and his future male children will carry the name as a sign that they remain true to their word.... as long as good money is invloved, and even if their isn't if it means helping someone. Which is why he comes from a trader family. They always have a good deal. Also adoptive brother of Tim-Tam.
Non-rp - I really wanted to make a toon with a really long name. Like a really long and sort of silly or odd name. I spent about 20 minutes putting this name together from the key board. While it seems random, I needed to make sure that the letters fit properly. It may look weird, but it all fits well together. The tenth was added in there at the suggestion of my girlfriend who thought it would have been funny if it ran down their family.

Gains Maccey - Imperial MagTemp tank
RP - A family name, Gains comes from a prominent Imperial family, but he doesn't like to tell people about it. He would prefer people to know him for who he is, not whoch family he comes from. Always drink in hand, this happy go lucky imperial will always be found with a smile on his face and a hand out to help those in need.
Non-rp - This was actually a name generator name. I did like the feel and sound of it and built his history based off of it.

I do have more toons, but none as fleshed out as these above. I really like this post and really like seeing other peoples names for their toons. 😊

My Khajiit MagPlar, Tazrah. A random "Khajiiti sounding" name I came up with at character creation.

My Khajiit StamBlade, Katt Blade. At the time when I made her, I thought of my Nightblade as more of a testing character, so I barely put much importance into her name or anything else. I just wanted to see what a Nightblade played like. Ironically she ended up being my Main Achievement Hunter who's first into new Story Content.

My Khajiit MagSorc, Dehyesha. This one I took the name from the main character of an extra terrestrial SciFi series of novels I read back in Highschool. She was the daughter of this planet's reigning family that belonged to a bigger interplanetary alliance and...well I liked the book and thought the name fit a Khajiit.

My Khajiit StamKnight, Tazanni. Another random "Khajiit sounding" name I came up with at creation.

My Argonian MagPlar, Tsah'Zee. My random "Argonian sounding" name. You can tell by now I like the letter 'T'.

And My Dunmer MagKnight, Teva Hlaalu. I have this love/hate feeling toward Dunmer. As a people they're atrocious. But I made a girl with the fairest skin shade and silver white hair and eyes. And I gave her the Hlaalu name cause in the Lore it said House Hlaalu was one of the more "benign" Houses when it came to relations with the other Races, and I wanted my Dunmer to be a Reformist that holds no ill will toward, nor any superiority over the other Races.

Years passed by, was this thread necro'd? Anyway lets update!

    Name: Ka'atali
    Khajiit Stamina Nightblade

Formerly named Katt Blade. Originally made as a joke character to test what a Nightblade played like since back then all I played was a Sorc. Grew into my main which I do everything with first. Achievements, new story content, everything. Finally bought a token to give her a proper name. Ka'atali is basically a Khajiiti version of Kat and MAH GURL Tali put together.

    Name: Dehyesha
    Khajiit Magic/Stamina Sorcerer

Dehyesha as said above was taken from the Main Character of the Schism series of SciFi Novels I had read back in High School. I was enamored with those books and I thought the name fit a Khajiit well.

    Name: Ta'azanni
    Khajiit Stamina Dragonknight

Like Ka'atali, I made Ta'azanni similar styled to be more Khajiiti seeming. When it comes to actual Ta'agra though they probably make no sense but whatever right?

    Name: Tsah-Zee
    Argonian Magicka Templar

Tsah-Zee was my first Argonian, and my dedicated Healer. I threw around sounds until I found a pair that sounded nice and also Immersive enough to fit the culture.

    Name: Blue Blizzard
    Argonian Magicka Warden

I wanted a legit Ice Mage caster that did a majority, if not nothing but Frost/Cold/Ice damage spells. Argonians are a great Magic Class so to fit their naming scheme her name describes herself and her specialty. Blue, for her scales color, and Blizzard, for the spells she casts.

I was picking a "unique" name in Warcraft a long while back and picked that part of the name based on a cat I had who walked around like a prince, but would flop over when you touched him. Great cat and it seems like a very unique name so far, across a few games.

Morgha Kul was created for Morrowind, but his backstory goes back to Arena. His name was chosen because he is a Dark Elf, and at the time I was enjoying the game, BLOOD BOWL, where there was a character named Jeremiah Kool. Borrowing the name of Morgan Earp and Jeremiah Kool, Telvanni Morgha Kul was born.

Hogun Jornisson is a Nord berzerker, based on a character I created for a D&D campaign when I was in university.

Swims in Shadow is an Argonian Nightblade, a thief and assassin. The name was chosen to be descriptive.

Stephen of Canada is based on ME, something I often do in games I play. The idea is that he (I) was abducted from our world as part of a plan by Molag Bal to transmit his power to our world. Normally, a barrier prevents it without a great effort. He could abduct someone, but only physically. The soul would remain in OUR world while the body was brought to Coldharbour. Molag Bal would then be able to transmit his power along the tether between body and soul. Of course, I was freed by the Prophet, and now reside on Nirn, seeking a way home.

Oerick is a Breton wizard, a character created for Morrowind as an NPC. The name is one I've used for many characters, adjusted to be culturally appropriate.

Mth'lar D'log Bog is a half ogre, half orc dragon knight. Based on an ogrish character I created for the aforementioned Blood Bowl, the name was chosen partly to be amusing, but also culturally appropriate.

Hasan I Sabbah was originally created for D&D Online using the name Deathstroke. Based loosely on the character of Nasir from Robin of Sherwood, he's a completely professional Redguard assassin. His name is that of the FIRST assassin recorded by history.

Gaius Marcellus Scipio is named for Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus, the famed Roman general. I've been having some difficulty deciding why this character, who is supposed to be a respected Imperial Legionnaire, would be constantly attacked by Imperial soldiers (in Cyrodiil and elsewhere). I've been thinking of making him a vampire, which would be something that could cause him to be cast out and attacked.

Celestus is an Altmer wizard I created originally for the old Lord of the Rings roleplaying game by ICE. He made his way into Warhammer roleplaying, then Morrowind as an NPC companion, and now is here in ESO.

Foehnir was originally created as a Sylvan Elf character in the old Eye of the Beholder D&D video game, one of four characters (Warwick the knight, Kistvaen the dwarf cleric, and one other whose identity escapes me now). He has appeared in many other games as a ranger of one sort or another, and is a Bosmer Nightblade here. His story is that he was prophecied to be the greatest Bosmer warrior in history, but while he was off training, his clan was wiped out by orcs. Broken hearted, he has wandered the world feeling useless and bereft, and is simply trying to find a new purpose.

Narasingha is another former D&D character. The original version was a leonine centaur (I don't recall the name of the race, half lion half man). Here, he's Khajit, and is revered as having a connection to the gods themselves.

Skjald is a recreation of my Lord of the Rings Online character. Something of a celebrity there, he was created exclusively to allow me to use the incredible music system that game has. As a result, I have written thousands of .ABC files of songs of all sorts, and become fairly well known as a result. I also recreated the character in Age of Conan, but never had the chance to play him. He's here for the same reason as originally intended, to just hang out and play music.

I also wanted something that sounded like an ordinary Argonian and something peaceful or serene. When I went to the Crow's Wood public dungeon for the first time I snapped a few screenshots while swimming there because Glides-Under-Starlight was... well... gliding under starlight!

Bentalliolous Rov (second character - Breton Sorcerer): Named after a D&D character from long, long ago. The name was originally made under the premise that magic-users fought with egos, style, and flair more often than spells, so as an aspiring mage this character had worked over time to a level of pretension (thus power) befitting such a name. This was just the working version of his mage name, as the full version was too long-winded to be practical.

Qoath (third character - Dunmer Dragonknight): This was supposed to be the name and race used for Glides, but in character creation I loved the racial art/models for Argonians and the idea of being a fire-breathing reptile like a dragon or Godzilla. The reason for both the name and race choice here is that it echoes a drow character from an old MUD from long ago that I made. So whether it's a main or alt, lots of play or little, I try to have the closest race to a dark elf in every game and give it this name. In TES V: Skyrim, therefore, I played through as a Dunmer with this name whereas in this game Qoath isn't even to level 50 despite being around since 2014. I temporarily deleted this toon to remake it with a better appearance because tokens to do this weren't a thing in 2014.

Hrrska-Set (fourth character - Argonian Templar): This was supposed to be "Hsska", so that it sounded like hissing when pronounced to emphasize a snake-like quality. "Set" for the Egyptian god of chaos and war. Not that I wanted it to be interpreted as "serpent person of divine disaster" by others, just using fun-sounding things that could be blended and sound to others like a mysterious Argonian name in their native language of Jel. I changed it from Hsska to Hrrska but I don't recall a specific reason. And for irony's sake, this character is a healer 95% of the time in group content.

I like this thread. So many creative names here, lore-friendly or not. I enjoy reading the ideas behind the names. :)

Here is my own army of alts.

    S'Rasin
    - Cathay Khajiit male
    - the name means "shield" in Ta'agra
    - he earned the name for being the protector of his younger siblings

    Ash Ra'shan
    - Dagi-raht Khajiit female
    - the name means "any tree" in Ta'agra
    - this was her mother's reply to any visitor asking where the little cub could be found, followed by a shrug and a gesture in the general direction of the garden, because the little one loved nothing as much as climbing up a tree and sitting on the branches

    Laielena
    - Bosmer female
    - I just played with some syllables and tried to combine some that I liked the sound of into a Bosmer sounding name

    Alyona al-Elinhir
    - Redguard female
    - Elinhir is a famous city of mages
    - the prefix "al-" denotes origin
    - the name Alyona is one of the variants derived from the ancient Greek name Helene, meaning "torch"
    - I like the sound of the whole name

    Elnaurwen of Lillandril
    - Altmer female
    - Lillandril is a city in Summerset
    - the name itself is a mix of two Sindarin words, "el" and "naur", meaning "star" and "fire", and an elvish sounding female suffix "-wen"

    Lucilla Vigilita
    - Imperial female
    - the name originates the Latin words "lux" for "light" and "vigil" for "watchful"

    Brawls-With-Bears
    - Argonian male
    - some say his name is name a reference to his physical strength, some say that it originates from his preference to use tamed bears in combat

    Brandhildr Bear-Bane
    - Nord female
    - variant of Brynhildr, the queen of Valkyries in an old Norse legend
    - she is a hunter of bears, hence the surname

    Mabrienne
    - Breton female
    - I played with a name generator until I liked the sound of the name and then I changed the spelling a bit

    Miara Indoril
    - Dunmer female
    - her surname shows her affiliation to House Indoril and it hopefully needs no further explanation
    - Miara is just a name that I created to sound as Dunmer name and then I found out it could mean something like "beauty of dew"

    Danna Indoril
    - Dunmer female
    - her surname shows her affiliation to House Indoril and it hopefully needs no further explanation
    - Danna sounded as a possible Dunmer name to me, and it is a real name too,
