There's just...no real reason for the system to be like this.

The reason is that it is really fun. IC and the sewers are one of the few places that you can go in the game and feel a sense of danger just being there. Personally, that feeling of danger is what keeps me coming back.

I can understand that. I used to play Aion for this reason and enjoyed rifting into enemy territory for the thrill the feeling of danger gave me. I liked sneaking around without getting caught. However I think the sewers are badly implemented and only appeal to a niche group of players. I neither enjoy having my tel var taken from me, nor do I enjoy the idea of taking tel var from others.

Tel Var gain from killing other players should scale based on Tel Var multiplier. Have a 1x Tel Var multiplier? You get 10% of other players' Tel Var from a kill. Have a 2x Tel Var multipler? You get 20% of other players' Tel Var from a kill. Have a 3x Tel Var multipler? You get 30% of other players' Tel Var from a kill. Have a 4x Tel Var multipler? You get 50% of other players' Tel Var from a kill.

If you want a big reward of Tel Var, you have to risk your own Tel Var.

    Make it 1x 20%, 2x 40%, 3x 60%, 4x 80%, then we're talking.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

As others have said Tel Var is unique to the game and the risk of loss is what makes it fun. It is the only part of the game where there is a penalty for dying. Personally I think it is fun. I'm average at best with PvP but still manage to come out with a lot of Tel Var. I like taking 10,000 out of the bank and then drop down into the sewers as far from home as I can and try to make it back home.
If you don't enjoy the hunt you can do as others have also suggested. Take advantage of the guild traders and use your gold to get what others get with Tel Var. Win/win they get the fun of hunting for Tel Var and you get access to the goods.

Ezpz fix, instead of 50% takes, its 25% takes for player kills Rewards farmers more than gankers but gankers still benefit (if they’re actually in IC for the competitive PvP and not just ganking the PvE players who don’t fight back ;) )

The PvE aspect of the PvEvP zone should give just as much reward instead of being mostly a punishment when other players come around. Currently it’s more balanced toward doing no farming and just ganking the poor sods who do farm Tel Var.

    telvar useless?
i disagree completely, i got my shield breaker set from telvar (which is perfect for my pvp build), and also many matts from the matt bag that i use daily, and also i buy everything with telvar in that telvar exchange guy, and sell those items to people in almost every zone in eso.
people love those things i sell to them that i bought with telvar, and they love the sets i buy with telvar as well. infact i advertise in all the zones that i sell telvar and all the sets that can only be bought with telvar, inculding all those costumes.
telvar is awesome and is fun killing people in the sewers to gain even MORE telvars.

i cant imagine anyone hating telvar. thats like saying Gold and Diamonds are bad.

I like the idea that others have proposed here. Maybe make it a base 10%, then use the multiplier you get for carrying Tel Var. Currently the multipliers are: x2 for 100 stones, x3 for 1,000, and x4 for 10,000. That gives you 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. To me, 40% seems a little low though. Maybe give a 10%-40% bonus for x4 (10% brings it back to the current 50%, 40% takes it to the old 80%)?

At least something needs to be changed.

But this one thinks it is ridiculous that an essentially PvE activity and currency was tied to a PvP zone. If this one goes to farm Tel Var stones, this one is not looking to fight whatever group is running around doing PvP, she is looking to fight the monsters and bosses to gain Tel Var.

A lot of people say "just go back and bank your Tel Var", which would be great advice and this one tries to do that already if not for the fact that often she gets attacked the moment she arrives due to the massive groups marauding around.

"Use Nightblade for stealth", yes; this one already tries that. She gets seen somehow regardless and always caught by the groups many times. Sometimes she gets away, but when you have 8 to 10 people constantly spamming aoes all over creation, is very hard to slip away.

OP has pinpointed the whole reason I very rarely go into the Imperial City or the sewers. It's usually full of gankers and kill happy losers who insist on killing anything and anyone they see using the 'it's a PVP zone' as an excuse.

I even made a point of getting the 3 IC crafting sets as soon as I could for my house so I don't have to go there for master writs. As for tel var stones, I've never used any and do not even know what they can buy.

The rewards are not high, however. To afford anything it can take hours of farming, which is time when you will inevitably run into one of those 'small zergs'. Perhaps if the rewards were improved it would be a bit more worth it, as well.

You choose to go with at least 1,000 Tel Var to get the x3 multiplier to gain slightly more reward (still not worth the risk) and this one may very well lose that because of the zergs. At the upper half of the Imperial City this one gets slightly more reward (quicker to nearly 5,000 or more), but below, this one can run the whole of the sewers to the center and barely near 4,000. With so much risk involved, it is simply not worth the time and effort invested considering you can very quickly lose it all.

I'm curious WHY you are trying to farm Telvar stones if you get frustrated by losing half of them occasionally?
If it's for the achievements, yes it's tough. If it's for the gold value - there are other ways to farm gold.

The risk of losing some Telvar is part of the atmosphere of IC and what makes it good. It means you have to make a balance between going with a big group for better chances of survival, and going solo or in a small group to maximize your Telvar earned. You also have to balance dps skills with some sort of escape and survival skills. Losing Telvar means that dying actually matters, which is hardly ever the case in the rest of the game.

That is the point! This one is saying it is ridiculous to have what boils down to a PvE activity in a PvP zone. For why?

Much of the attitudes can be seen in the forums here. The hostility, the bad attitudes, the rudeness; those sort of people are abounds in PvP. They will kill you just to spite you even if they get nothing out of it, repeatedly as well and often are extremely vindictive. This one would suggest either changing the way Tel Var stones work or making a new way to earn them that does not place one in a PvP zone.

Hakeijo runes, mostly. Making the Prismatic Glyphs is very useful, yes. This one uses them in all aspects of play. But at 5,000 Tel Var stones a piece and taking hours to farm that much with the possibility of losing so much at the drop of a hat, it is very frustrating, yes.

There's just...no real reason for the system to be like this.

The reason is that it is really fun. IC and the sewers are one of the few places that you can go in the game and feel a sense of danger just being there. Personally, that feeling of danger is what keeps me coming back.

This is exactly the reason I love the Telvar system the way it is. I played Eve Online for ten years because of the danger that you could actually lose something tangible. The rush when you survive is amazing. When I get jumped and then actually kill my attacker it is more satisfying than anything else in this game.

Tel Var loss on death is a great thing. Risk v reward = excitement.

Problem is what other posters have stated here that you should only be able to steal tel var equal to ... a reasonable % of what you are also risking. Not fair to go look for farmers with 1000's of TV right after you bank all of yours. This is the same thing as "naked gankers" in other full loot pvp mmo's. Not fun, and toxic for the game.

This seems like a reasonable concession. I can see a system that operates similar to the telvar multiplier in place currently. as you have a greater amount of Telvar at risk you loot a greater percentage from your pvp kills.

You both are cowards. Nobody here can change it. Ignore ic and be happy
There's nothing cowardly about it, it's a choice thing for me and I don't need to go there.

I'm happy to ignore IC and go on my merry way. I've been in there when I've had to without complaint and done what I need to ensure I never have to again.

This one will state that while many enjoy the sense of loss and that is fine, she does think that something else wholly PvP oriented could be implemented to take the place of Tel Var stones. Why must the thing that comes with a loss risk be a PvE activity? This is like games like RuneScape if every server were turned into a high risk PvP server and so no one had a choice but to lose much if they were killed. It makes no sense. It is not fun for those who wish to gain the Tel Var stones to obtain exclusive items available only for them.

This one is not suggesting that the PvPers should not have what they enjoy, only that what they enjoy could be better tailored to them. Or at least make the useful to PvE things available for gold or through some other currency (and this one does not mean Guild Stores because this one does not live on the game and she is constantly broke, so earning the gold to afford the Hakeijo runes from players selling them is very hard)

Why could something like.. War Coins/Bonds or something not take the place of Tel Var stones and Tel Var stones be made a currency available from a non PvP activity? Then with War Currency you could buy things solely and specifically for PvP - then you could have your PvP currency and sense of loss and risk while the Tel Var stones would open.

Or simpler, again; just make the PvE things available somewhere else through some other currency. Even making them available through AP would be preferable to being forced to go to a PvP zone and have so many jerks attack this one and spawn camp her. Shes even had people specifically go looking around the place for her and her team. That is ridiculous. And what do they gain from it? Eventually this one stops running around with Tel Var stones altogether and they continue to attack her regardless just seemingly out of spite and meanness.

Because the world is not black & white. Some players enjoy a mix of both PvP and PvE. There are games that are entirely mixed PvPvE, with no risk-free PvE areas. ESO has one zone that provides this mixture. It's not a zone for everyone, by design.

    Tel Var farming made easy:

    1. Have high CP character in good gear.

    2. Have escape pots or cloak (though not really necessary TBH).

    3. Only play IC at low pop when your alliance owns the districts. Having characters in different alliances is of course useful for this.

4.If there is conflict going on or gankers around, don´t farm tel var unless you are good enough to get away with it. Just switch to an alt and farm in Alik´r desert or something. Fighting gankers is pointless, unless you do it for pure enjoyment. Also, I seriously doubt gankers make as much income as a good farmer under the right conditions. A farmer gets more than just tel var.

    5. Don´t just go for bosses. The mobs give good XP, Fighters Guild XP, keys and loot for decon / selling etc.

    6. Speedrun around the map, always have 1000+ tel var for the 3x bonus. Bank at regular intervals around, I dunno, 7k plus or whatever you´re comfortable with. But always have 1000+ remaining.

    7. Enjoy what might be the most profitable PvE farming in the game.
