Race change token is disappointing...

    I got a race change token. Thought I could use it to change to a new race that I would like to try, you know, because it's called a race change token. Don't know or care what an Alliance or Faction is. Just wanted to change race because of passive change on my one and only. Disappointed that unable to change to any race that I have an interest in with a race change token. It's very vague and misleading to call it a race change token and I'm going to assume it's on purpose.

    We didnt need another thread.

    Yes, the text could be clearer to make it more obvious that it does not give access to races not in your faction unless you also buy the Adventurer Pack, because this is a recurring point of confusion for players.

    But we already had a thread about this. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/460823/race-change-token-is-a-disappointment

    Hard to comment on that thread though because it's closed.

    If you didn't have that to begin with, why would ZOS include it? Those of us who paid for it deserve the ability to pick any race, and with the ability to buy Crown items for gold, you can /EASILY/ pick it up and have the choice the rest of us paid for.

    Have what to begin with?

    Having a lack of knowledge does not justify your assumption that it was misleading on purpose. I don't know how anyone could not see the Alliance symbols and correlating colors on the character screen, but that's you, your experience, if you picked a race with no regard to its alliance, then being upset now because you have to pick a different alliance to get your desired race (minus Imperial because you can buy that) doesn't make sense, since alliance didn't matter to you before.

    The Any Race Any Alliance ugrade that allows you, for example, to be able to be an Ebonheart Pact Khajiit instead of only an Aldmeri Khajiit.

    I had to double check that I wasn't on the r/ChoosingBeggars board for a second.

    Just get the upgrade if you don't have it.

    "BuT iT sHoUlD bE fReE wItH tHe ToKeN!!11!1!1oneone!1"

    No. It shouldn't. Because it makes sense why it wouldn't be. It's a race change token based on what upgrades you have. I don't have the Imperial edition/race, therefore I'm locked out of choosing Imperial. As others have stated, it's stupidly easy to level out a max character. Roll the race you want if you're locked by alliance and play that way or just get the upgrade. Stop being choosy beggars.

    ZOS literally just increased everyone's character slots by one, did you not know? How could someone not have that available, since it was just given to us?

    O.O @Sheezabeast When did this happen and where do I find the post or announcement of this?

    Not to mention you can now buy crowns with in-game gold thorough gifting.

    Nope, some players are too lazy to do that even.

    Sure it does. 3+ years of threads with same issue apparently. People buying change race token then finding out have to buy additional just to change to race they want. Company knows this is misleading. Just call it change race to any other race in your alliance unless you buy upgrade token. Just because they gave this stuff away doesn't make their naming not misleading and you can still be disappointed with how shady this business practice is when you find out how stuff works.

    I think the meaning of "shady" is lost on you. I'm not sure how you'd expect that the race token would give you free access to all of the races when if you created one you wouldn't be able to. The race token literally just allows you to regain access to the character creation screen. No more no less.

    How is it misleading, it’s the exact same race change token it’s always been. It has never allowed you to access all races unless you had purchased the explorer pack or whatever.

    Very. Like... I'm all for criticizing ZoS, but where criticisms are actually warranted. But for the love of Mara this is ridiculous.

    Oh ok. I still don't want to buy anything though. Just want to use the free change race token that was given to me change to a race that I would actually want to play. Not interested in paying money for Alliances or factions or whatever they are. Could have just have moved the new race to appropriate faction and then your any race any alliance not affected.

    Um.... you need to read up on the Three Banners War so you have a basic idea how the game works....

    Now, I don't go all faction crap myself - but then, I don't expect to change a Bosmer to an Orc or Redguard either. There are things about the game that are actually set in stone - unless you want to pay to "remove that stone".

    Good luck with everything.

    Except there's no such thing as changing Alliances, or an alliance change token. So that's not a possibility.

    That's not how it works. The token only allows you to change to what you've unlocked. Not by what you don't have unlocked. So if you're not interested in purchasing it, then you really don't need to use the race change.

    I get what you're saying. It doesn't affect me personally. But they probably should have let players pick another magicka race if they had a magicka one, or another stamina race if they had one (just automatically for those 3 free coins, like an exchange). OTOH, Z has said the races are so close in performance now it really shouldn't matter.

    I'm not going to read anything. It's not important to me. I don't read or listen to anything in the game. I don't care about any of it. All I want to do is use free race change token to switch to new race that is not the two that I have a choice of without paying money because the company gave me something called a change race token. But I can't do that. The change race token is very misleading.

    So the race change token doesn't let you change race to your desired race and any alliance token doesn't let you change alliences? Nothing wrong with wording here.

    Imagine buying name change token and getting only 3 possible options to change to and than hearing everybody explaining that that is exactly what the description meant.

    No. It isn't. You chose an alliance when you rolled your character. You do NOT have any unlocks for the token to choose from. You just have the base game's ruleset of choices. This isn't misleading. If you're going through saying "you don't need to read anything", you're mistaken. You -DO- need to read things because what you're stating is misleading is in-fact not.

    So you have two choices;
    1. Purchase Any Race/Any Alliance
    2. Roll a new toon

    If you don't want to pick up the upgrade, then you don't need to use the race change token. It's that simple.

    If you don't want to pick up the upgrade, then you don't need to use the race change token. It's that simple.

    Yes it is misleading.

    Let's look at the definition of 'misleading';
    mis·lead·ing - Dictionary result for misleading
    /ˌmisˈlēdiNG/
    adjective
    giving the wrong idea or impression.
    "your article contains a number of misleading statements"
    synonyms: deceptive, confusing, deceiving, equivocal, ambiguous, fallacious, specious, spurious, false, mock, pseudo, illusory, delusive, evasive;

    There is no wrong idea or impression on how the token has worked in the past, nor does it have any misleading text on how it works NOW. It's always been this way. You claiming that you don't have to listen or read anything suggests that you're ignorant on the game's setting and how it affects the mechanics of the game within. They're not responsible for you making yourself aware of how these mechanics work as it is IMPLIED when you first fire up the game. It is IMPLIED when you choose an alliance. And finally IT IS IMPLIED when you choose your race. From the race change description;

    "This token enables change of a player character's race on the character selection screen."

    Character selection screen is what you have UNLOCKED. If you don't have Any Race/Any Alliance, it's not misleading. You don't have those things, so you don't get to choose those things.

    So you have your choices. Purchase the upgrade or roll a new toon. It's not misleading. It never has been misleading.

    Edit; Furthermore, if you try and roll a new character and you can't use that race in that alliance, then it stands to reason that the same can be applied to the race change token. Either way you want to look at it, it's not misleading. It's not ZoS's responsibility that you remain blissfully ignorant of the Three Banners War, nor is it their responsibility to remind you that this mechanic exists because of how often you may or may not be in the character creation screen.
