I want this now more than ever.
One of my characters is a magicka-based dragonknight. For character development reasons, he does not use staves; he uses dual swords and a sword + shield. This creates some interesting challenges for resource management, but it's a challenge I've embraced. He uses infused weapons with flame enchantments that do most of his damage for light and heavy attacks, and I've just learned to watch his magicka bar like a hawk during protracted fights like soloing world bosses. It works pretty well, all things considered.
Next patch, they are halving the effectiveness of 1-handed weapon enchantments.
I don't usually get upset about changes to this game, but this one is on my short list of changes that really ticks me off. I'm really concerned about how this is going to impact this character. When you have to be conservative in using magicka abilities, weapon enchantments make up for that difference. What is that going to look like after this ill-concieved change goes through? I know it's going to be bad. I can't PTS, so I don't know how bad. Am I going to have to shelve the character entirely because of this change? Just gut him as a magicka character and make him a hybrid? I don't know.
What I do know is that Zenimax releasing a magicka-based melee weapon line would bypass this problem entirely.

it's true stamboys have more weapon type, but magicka get more class skill. both have guild/vamp or WW skills.
you can be a magicka dd with hand+shield or DW for passives (pvp or pve with DW) with good results
we already have a lot of good skill we don't put in bar because no space for it.

The NPC necromancers have "coldfire" staves with cyan flames.Eh, I'd settle for a new type of destruction staff to go with the upcoming necromancer class. Been jealous of those cool NPC necro staffs with their dark purple flames for ages.
...and I really wish they would switch them back to DPS (making them "damage and slow" perhaps, while doing fire as "damage and DoT" and shock as "damage and splash"...) and make up a third magica staff skill line, for tanking and support effects! Mysticism staves, alteration staves, whatever... just give magica characters a -dedicated- skill line for this! With their own taunt skills, damage migration skills, etc.Frost staff is really worst than one hand shield...

everything is viable, but it's not as effective as double destro build. especially for 1H&S (usefull in pvp, not really in pve)
nothing change vs dble destro or destro/ dw (except ulti)

destro staff backbar with ele wall and aoe/dot
mainbar DW with spammable

Sorcerer can make this work? DW with dagger for Crit surge?
