A tank's job is to keep aggro and be tanky (ie not die). Full stop.
All other expectations fall under player "dogma" rather than real game or role requirements.
I consider this especially true when pugging, as more often than not I know I'll not be able to rely on anyone else to bring solid DPS or give me a heal if needed, so I know I need to be completely self-reliant to make it through.

As a former saptank who campaigned for Silver Leash.... might I suggest you use it? Also you have a class ultimate that is crowd control, Soul Tether, only 150 ult.

If a DPS is considered ineffective for using a single ability to deal damage and technically fulfill their role's job, then a tank has to be held to the same standard. All roles use a combination of abilities to compliment their primary function and benefit the team. When everybody builds with the anticipation that nobody in the group is going to give support, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
