On the one hand, I really hope it's a skill line. I love being able to add flexibility and a different playstyle to existing classes. I'd like to have more of that.

OTOH a new class would be cool because, presumably, it would be wholly unique and have a lot MORE abilities to play with than a skill line. BUT if they go with a new class then it's high time we got the much longed for class change token at last. and at least ONE free one should come with the purchase of the chapter.

My thoughts as well. I would rather add something to my existing characters instead of starting a brand new one.

But I felt like this for the warden and I actually like them now so regardless of how they do it a new class will be a welcome change as well.

Main reason I'm not super stoked is maxing out horse, undaunted, PvP and collecting 300 skyshards again for the 16th time.

So far nothing is confirmed so I'll curb my enthusiasm or disappointment for now.

just bear that in mind you lot.

Except with the skill you only get one third of the content and it doesn’t do a enough to flesh out a whole viable theme. Where the class does.

I’ll choose a new class everytime

As an act of sacrilege and evil... it absolutely does make sense.

Indeed! I was hoping necromancy was going to be added as a skill line so my Templar could pick it up, making him more akin to a D&D-style black paladin.

Problems arise when you have to use the new skill line because it's BiS (see Psijic Order when it came out). Not everyone wants a character that casts both holy magic and uses necromancy.

Not sure why you quoted me as what you said had nothing to do with what I said. And if you don't want a character that does two different things then don't make it.

OP, you are out voted. I too want a new class because I am getting sick of them just making skill lines. Necros worship daedra and the skills should be daedra skills not just daedric pets like the sorcs have which honestly, sorcs should not have daedric pets. If they wanted to give sorcs pets, they should have been something else. Not all sorcs worship the daedric lords.

Necromancers aren't 'Daedra worshippers' any more than Sorcs would be lore-wise lol. Sure, a lot of necromancers would very likely be more than willing to associate with Daedra for more power, but the Worm Cult was Mannimarco's thing and they followed him, not Molag Bal. If they give Dardric Skills to necromancers, it wouldn't make much sense. Leave that sorta thing to the Daedric Worshipper Class lol.

I can understand why Sorcs were given the Summoning line, btw, but in all honesty I think it'd have made more sense for them to be given skills tied to Conjuration, Alteration, or Illusion instead of Summoning.

That aside, I'm still more for a new Class than a new Skill line. A new Class brings much more diversity to the game overall, whereas a new Skill line doesn't really add that much. Sure, it's much more beneficial to people who don't want to level a brand new character and lose progression on one or two mains, or people stuck at max rosters, but a Skill line is still a lot more limiting than a whole new Class. I'm just wondering what all they'll use to fill out three Character Skill lines with, but as I've said in another thread, I'll reserve any judgement for when we get info from the PTS.

Personally I want a class more than a skill line.

Skill line will end up the same as other guild ones, you choose one skill which is good for your build and the rest is ignored.

There are slots for 5 skills and 1 ultimate per weapon. You don't use all of the Class skills.

I hope when Spellcrafting comes out, we will not have any more Classes.

what is spellcrafting that everyone talks about?

Sure OP, cause a templar using the undead and spreading disease makes so much sense.

Probably as much as beeing member of psijic and magesguild at once...or helping the morag tong, while beeing a member of the dark brotherhood

Not to mention beeing a templar vampire

So you see what zos thinks about certain types of logic in the game ;)

A skilline may still be an option, even tho i doubt thats the only thing we will get; class is more likely but I personally would prefer a skillline

New class means you will buy the Expansion+ 2 new character slots just so you can play it plus ofc hours of grinding. I really wouldnt mind a new class if they gave you 2 more character slots, but im too tired of grinding after getting 10 characters to 50 so a skill line would be much more convenient for me

If it's just a skill line they have no reason to give us more character slots. I would like more character slots even without a new class, so any excuse for them to add more character slots is great as far as I'm concerned.

Ive seen multiple people say the same thing. And ive responded with the same answer:

    It would be boring.
We need a new class to vamp up the play style in PvP / PvE
Skill lines only give you stress as you try to squeeze one more ability onto your bar, while a class is a whole other category

The community needs a change, and ZoS have gone the right way about it x

Classes were a mistake at the very beginning of the game. It was absolutely not a TES thing and still aren't. Instead of classes we should have skill trees with twice or thrice the number of skills, and give the class specific trees to everybody. I'm totally uncomfortable with classes in an Elder Scrolls game. I played all TES since the 90' and classes never existed since TES:O.

But I guess it's now to late to complain.

Nope. I want a CLASS. Not 5-6 skills and a few passives. I'm tired of Sorcs, Templars, NBs, DKs. I did NOT enjoy Warden at all.

    Let me have nice things.

That's why there are new Skill Lines! You stop being what you are today without having to create a new character!

And ZOS need not only create 5 active skills and 5 passive skills. It can be 10, or 15 as long as it's a skill line.
But creating the character is where the fun is from the skill line could have 25 skill and 30 passive i couldnt care less about them

a skill line gets 5 abilities and a few stat buffs? why would you not want full trees to pick from. unless what your asking is to not have to level another class because you dont want to slog through the overly boring and annoying overland grind, and grab sky shards . though i agree because the game is so mind numbingly boring its like like playing a single player RPG with bad story and rudimentary gameplay mechaincs. most would rather have a full fledged class with full trees to mix and match to their playstyle .

I agree with the OP here....we need skill lines, not classes. ZOS is so intent on making al classes the same anyway, why bother? Difference between a necromancer and a sorcerer? Not a whole lot....both have summons, both have dark magic, you replace your crystal root with a bone root, etc. I would like them to ditch classes entirely and let you pick whatever 3 base skill lines you want instead, with the possibility of adding more base lines at some point in the future.

@joaaocaampos That is a terrible idea. If new skill lines are to replace my class skills.... then everyone is the same. Because everyone is using the same skills.

More classes means more diversity, rather than everyone running the same BiS skills, regardless of class.

Dragonknights are Dragonknights, Templars are Templars, Sorcerers are Sorcerers, Nightblades are Nightblades, Wardens are Wardens. Necromancers should be Nercromancers.

More diversity is good. Less diversity than what we currently have can only be bad.

not 100% real , since the game will become world of warcraft 2.0 horrible class balance , more skills means more nightmare balance issues atleast in wow you have 1 class but in ESO you can merge different skills from different skill lines over years of game lifetime to make things even more hard to balance , lets not mention gear set PROC etc

IM BORED OF SKILL LINES - 'here's five abilities and an Ultimate, see how you can cram it into your build - enjoy'

I want a whole new play style, something I can look at and sink my teeth into. Something where I can find the broken abilities and abuse them, where I can role-play as something else, something where I can create 3 separate builds all varying in their abilities.

A skill line is not enough. I want and I think the community needs a larger umph this time!

Thank you ZoS, you answered our calls! x

man you are basically me from over 7 year ago when i start world of warcraft in The burning crusade , i wish more classes to do until these new classes take the places of other classes and cause big balance issues over years and then i regret wishing so , if wow teach me anything it will be ( you like it or not less skills = better balance , better balance = enjoying game ) ,( more skills = less balance = more people not happy with the game = people quit because their class become weak over time and duo to you limited to afew skills in bar that could means if you have X heal that is good the new class could have the same X heal but better than you with downside that is not noticeable ) , these words coming from someone who play games purely for summoner classes with pvp aspect in the game and love necromancer to death but balance issues pain through wow 12 years lifetime is nightmarish experince that let you go of anything you like for sake of game to not die and keep breathing

I mean, what id really want is to say goodbye to classes as a whole and an introduction to some other system that limits your choice still, like maybe you can only use 3 "class" skill lines at a time still but you pick whichever ones you want.

Classes feel so wrong for this game since its started to go more and more into the legit "anyone can be anything" angle. Personally I struggle to play some classes because as a warden main im now so attached to having dedicated self healing abilities from green balance.

"anyone can be anything" while this is great idea on paper but its very stupid to happen in game cuz balance , imagine stealth , warrior , summon pets , bow with staff , healing and tanking and dps , would just kill any meaningful for being support class or taking since everyone is self sustain by using different classes abilitys and everyone will max all passives in game which will makes it meaningless since everyone have the same passives
