"Unknown Error" is a bit of a catch-all error message, so there aren't specific troubleshooting steps, but could those of you getting this issue try closing completely out of the client, running a repair, and logging back in?

Elderscrollian✭✭✭Same issue. Can log in and get to Character select but some of the characters when trying to load in it gives me the "unknown error has occurred". I should note the game was working perfectly until the recent maintenance patch. Before then I had no issues at all.1

i logged in after the patch was finished and played ca. 10/15 minutes. after that i was logged off because of an "unknown error"
want to login again but know i ve a new issue:
the pc is not autorizised for this account or something like that. i became the mail after 30 minutes with the code and - the code is wrong???
is there any fix yet?0 -
The worst thing... this thread has been going for over an 1hr 15m and not a single official response!
Also, with scheduled maintenance times of:
Tuesdays at 13:00 BST (14:00 CEST)
Sundays at 09:00 BST (10:00 CEST)
...and then a failure to bring it back up for several hours, you guys REALLY need to rethink you start times. I guess the Sunday one is difficult if you have no shifts that can start it earlier, but there is no reason why Tuesdays can't start at 9am while the world is working or studying.
While I am on the topic of schedules.... what the hell happened to the schedules? You do realise it's MONDAY right?0 -

I tried closing the client and running repair after I heard about the guild issues to see if that would fix the log in "unknown error" but it didn't see to work.
I can give it another shot now though.
I seem to be able to log into my account but once I choose the character it hangs on loading for a while then just kicks me back to the log in screen with the unknown error message.@Turelus - EU PC Megaserver

makkon✭✭✭trying to enter cave - got an unknown error on loading screen. after, on login back, got connection time out. sometimes dced with unknown error.
ps. even addons got resetted . my SavedVariables files contain additional [""] instead ["@accountname"]0 -
Patcher seems to think I'm good, and I was in the game for a time but now I see that this may be part of the issue:

This has been an existing issue since BETA for me, all the basic suggestions like restarting the client and checking for repairs are utterly ineffective.0

g33kcub✭✭Updated the game, hoping that it would be fixed. No resolution. I am still unable to maintain or even connect in some cases to my character. I have contacted support and they wanted me to run a test and email it to them. I have done that.
So far I have:
1. Updated the game.
2. Uninstalled and reinstalled the game.
3. Disabled/Removed all addons.
4. Set my graphics to minimum, just in case.
None of these have helped. I'm on the MAC client as well. I was playing just fine all through the early access and then up until yesterday (4/6/14) with no problems connected at one time up to 12 hours. Now I can barely connect or if I do I'm lucky to get 2 minutes of connection time.
I was hoping the patch today would have a fix. No such luck... Considering I'm still in my free 30 days, and they have already put a hold on my CC for the subscription fee. I think they should have prioritized a fix for this over launching the adventure pack, imho.0 -
ZOS_JessicaFolsom has already acknowledged the problem so hold your pants on. And yeah I just noticed even after dloading and installing update, game version is still 1.0.0.90

Foul_Corsair✭✭✭Same. Been thrown out 7 times, have lost all contacts and guilds I was in and now I just can't log in with 'unknown error' all the time. I took 2 weeks off work to play this and I've sat around for a large part of it doing nothing. What a waste.would ya mind if I fired me cannon through your porthole?0 -

Ran another repair and the issue persists.
Can log into the game but once a character is selected I get booted back to log in with the unknown error.
Not sure if version number issue people are reporting has any links but as I mentioned in a previous post the version number on login hasn't changed since I started early access even after 1.01@Turelus - EU PC Megaserver
