PSA: Zone chat is full of trolls/sensitive people that will report you - Lesson learned

As a guy who likes to keep his record clean, I am still kinda salty about this because this is my first offense since 2014 but I feel the need to warn the public to avoid this kind of incident so be careful on what you say specially for those of you who likes to socialized, hang out, and help newbies in zone chat.

Before you judge me, hear me out. I did not intend nor bare any kind of ill will towards the involved parties and yet I was reported for hate speech but, surprisingly, hours passed and no one reacted in the zone chat but instead we were calmly talking about topic like adults and even joke about it. To be clear, this was not a troll or raging moments in zone chat, in fact, we were just talking about something that has led to a chain of events to the topic at hand which is the Scottish comedian that has gotten a lawsuit because he taught his pug to do a German (I will not say the N word anymore) salute.

My offense was, I cited some of his said words from his video as an example while I was sharing his tragic incident. I already talked to support about this but they are basing the offense from what you type instead of what the intention is which is understandable so no hard feelings to support.

That said, lesson is learned. I will probably refrain from answering questions, helping, whispering back to strangers from zone chat in the future because everything seems offensive now a days.

I'm fairly non-PC as my friends will attest but you have to bear in mind that just because you didn't originally create the content or even if you don't endorse the content, sharing offensive content is a no-no.
I'm sorry for you but to be fair, it's a given that you don't refer to certain topics while on a public forum. I'm not saying I agree with that but it is the way things are going.
Fairly soon, there will be a list of terms that are unusable in any context.

That's kind of unfair because it is suppression but I get your point.

No, just a warning. This is my first, that's why I'm surprised because there's also the fact that no one reacted in the zone chat while the conversation went on peacefully.

My suspicion, this feels like a troll found an opportunity to report something that happens to be counted as offensive even though the intention was not so here I am reminding people so they can avoid this kind of incident in the future.

    Suppression of what?

When you go to somebodies home you are obligated to oblige by their rules. Some applies to private establishments that you are guest in.

Even in public, freedoms have limitations. Chiefly that the do not interfere with anyone else's freedoms. Freedom of Speech has never been, and never intended to be carte Blanche to say whatever you want wherever you want to whomever you want.

Mate im with you, the things people get upset about these days are kinda pathetic, the things you read in the news, see on tv etc, there is a whole host of nonsense that goes on.

The one that springs to mind for me was on a program (in the uk) i dont know where you are based by the way, but the person on tv was complaining, that training dogs to be guide dogs or sight seeing dogs was cruel because they werent asked or there permission wasnt recieved, WHAT? i mean really, its pathetic whats going on now.

Please remember this quote by a very good comedian.

    That's absurd.

Training dogs to be a guide or more specifically; giving them roles, is actually making a dog more happy because they get a sense of purpose. There's also the fact that, for them to see their owners pleased and happy on what they did is probably the best gift you can ever give to a dog.

OP, you basically got the same treatment as the comedian you're talking about... The court decided that context doesn't matter and demanded a fine anyways, even though he was basically mocking the Nazis.

I've noticed that the ESO community has an excess of snowflakes, based both on the responses I got on the forums on certain spicy topics, and situations when people threatened to report me in the game. And seeing how people in this very thread make excuses for what was done to you, this confirms my impression.

The most ridiculous thing is, "hate speech" does not seem to apply to people who unironically say things that would be indistinguishable from Mein Kampf if they replaced all references to men with references to Jews, and all references to women with references to Germans, because that's basically the ideology of those who define the term "hate speech".

"Hate speech" is just newspeak for "blasphemy", and if this statement triggers you, you are one of the snowflakes I'm talking about.

That's pretty much the point of the comedian in question's predicament.

Better visit the (word I can't say even though it's the actual name) museum before any and all (group I can't say even though they're a historical group) references are removed.

After all, the worst part about censorship is <snip>.

To the OP: this might get closed, discussing moderation is also off limits.

Lesson that should be learned is that some subjects have no business being talked about in a video game.

It was unintentional, just so happens that what we're talking about ealrier has lead to a chain of events to the topic at hand.
Unless there is something else OP doesn't mention sound like he became a victim of infamous PC-people.

Well I wouldn't mention what I literally said because I might get banned this time but here's a feeble attempt to make it look non-offensive as possible. As I've said, I cited some of what the Scottish comedian said as an example while we're talking about him.

These two were the reasons why I've gotten a warning.

Here's the problem. The U.S. is the only country in the world that has speech protected by law.

He's not a U.S. citizen, so he took the chance someone would be offended when he did the bit.

The other problem is the conflation that free speech is without consequence. Intent and context matter, for sure, but just as you probably should avoid religion and politics in mixed company, trying to use a video game to discuss current events, political ideals or whatever else is on your brain, you take the risk and really, is this the place for that?

I don't have a dog in this race, I feel that the entire situation is silly, but you knew you were venturing into waters you couldn't chart when you began the conversation or escalated the conversation into topical hot spots.

Nothing to do with snowflakes or P.C. here, just someone more than likely saw you bringing up a topic that easily could lead to argument and rhetoric and vitriol.

You create an atmosphere that is not fun for players when you try to bring real world issues and discussion into a video game.

Reddit and 4chan are there for a reason after all.

GAB was the place, so they got PayPal and other payment processers, as well as the domain name and hosting providers to stop doing business with them. BitChute is now getting the same treatment (so far only with payment processers).

Speech that has consequences attached to it in form of punitive measures is not "free". The whole point of "free speech" is to not have punitive measures for speaking out. It's the damn definition of it.

And whether or not a video game is a place for it, well, obviously he wasn't the only one who was talking about it, so apparently there was a desire for it. If nobody wanted to hear it, I doubt he would have continued.

My thinking is that zone chat is for discussing ESO and ESO only. Since I'm obviously in the minority, I do not regularly monitor it. The only reason I would monitor zone would be for comments like: 'LF help with WB X' or 'LF healer for N pledges' or even 'Where is the Elden Root Fighters Guild?'. Trouble is, any comments like that get buried in the spam so I've unfortunately deemed zone chat as worthless.

This is a complete misunderstanding of how protected speech works. You do not get to say whatever you want whenever you want. If you call for violence, or infringe on another persons rights, there is consequences.

If you knowingly lie to authorities, misrepresent yourself in business or use the 1st amendment to circumvent say the 4th or 5th, there is consequences.

The speech or act itself in this case probably wasnt even in question, rather its the subject matter and the use of systems to discuss non related topics in a video game.

Beyond all of that, you agreed to the code of conduct when you signed up for your account. Everyone agreed to abide by those rules. You break those rules there is consequences.

Rhetoric, conjecture and rhetoric on either side is simply not allowed in their system, which you agreed to, once again.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.
