PC players, what keybinds do you use so you can actually play?

I'm making a push through VMA, but what has always bothered me about playing with the keyboard, is making VMA more difficult than it should be.

I'm using the stock keybinds, the AWSD movement keys and 1-5 buttons for skills. I did rebind weapon switch to the middle mouse button, but I'd rather have two separate buttons for switching.

The problem with this setup is that depending on how you are moving, you cant hit skill buttons. Moving left? You cant hit skills 1 or 2. Moving right? Can't hit buttons 4 or 5. Forward? Buttons 2 and 3 are off limits.

You elite PC players, do you have a special binding that works, or are you using a gaming controller or mouse? When I watch videos of good players, I don't see any of the hinky movement and skill restrictions that I'm dealing with.

    I have never used WASD in any game ever ...
    I'm left-handed and i use the mouse (Left Handed Naga) with my left hand and use my right hand for the keyboard.

    My key-binds are:

    Forward: (Physical) Left Mouse button (mapped to logical right button because left-handed mouse)
    Attack: (Physical) Right Mouse button (mapped to logical left button because left-handed mouse)
    Back: Down Arrow
    Strafe Left: Left Arrow
    Strafe Right: Right Arrow
    Jump: Up Arrow
    Sprint: Num-0
    Crouch: CTRL
    Interrupt: Right Shift
    Skills 1-5: Backslash | Delete | End | Page Down | Num-4
    Ultimate: Home | Key on Naga Keypad

    I mostly play with a controller because of issues with my hands but I have a 6-button razor naga that I use sometimes.

    I tried a Razor mouse that had 7 thumb buttons and was fumbling/hitting wrong skills too much to make it work. So I went back to a simpler mouse and map all my movement/skills to my keyboard.

    You might try A & S for left and right moving and Space Bar for moving forward and B for moving backward. That leaves your middle and index finger free to map skills 1-5 to ERTFG. In theory that could work but, in practice I find it too hard to use.

    What I actually use is S & D for left/right and spacebar & B for forward/backward and map skills 1-5 to QWERT so I can easily remember which skills where. But that does limit my ring and middle finger - so I do two things to help there: put any 'passive' skills there (like bound armor, inner light, etc) and practice my rotation while moving so I know I need to change directions to smoothly get my full rotation out.

    Only changes I make:

    Bash: M4 (side button, bot)
    Weapon: Swap M5 (side button, top)
    Synergy: Middle Mouse Buttom (scroll)
    Roll Dodge: F
    Res/Interact: T

    I don't think I would be able to play without 2 side buttons, mostly because of weapon swapping. F should always be Roll Dodge or Bash, it's your most important keybinding.

    About not being able to use skills while going to left/right... That's why positioning your skills on your bars are really important. I like to always have my heals on 3, since it's always accesible.
    Forward? Buttons 2 and 3 are off limits.

    Eeh, if you use your middle finger on W, you can use your index finger to hit 3-4-5, and your ring finger to hit 1-2. Problem with going sides you can use your mouse to adjust your camera and move where you want and casts skills on the buttons you want, etc. Takes a while to get used to, tbh.

Left rear is sneak and i dont remember what right rear is, I never use it. I left the mouse wheel and wheel button as is. There are two buttons behind the mouse wheel. I use the first one for synergys. I think the other one i have tied to ultimate but its hard to reach so I just use 6 on the keyboard. I have caps lock, shift, and L Ctrl all tied to roll dodge. double tapping is crap. All I have to do is drop my pinkie finger on the keyboard and I roll dodge.

    I use a G.Skill Mouse. It has two thumb buttons. I have key-bound dodge roll and weapon swap onto those two side buttons. I use muddle mouse button for bashing, though often forget to use it and just bash the normal way. All other combat key-binds are otherwise generally at default. I am used to moving with WASD from other games, and can use all 5 skills, and using the shift key while retaining movement.

    I like the old Razer Naga with the shoulder buttons on the left, the ones that have it behind the wheel must be for different hand sizes that can't reach them. Anyway in terms like that I use:

    1,2,3,4,6 = Action Buttons
    5 = Interact
    7 = Quickslot
    8 = Ultimate
    9 = Bar Swap
    10 = Strafe Left
    11 = Back Peddle
    12 = Strafe Right
    Front Shoulder = Mount
    Back Shoulder = Dodge Roll
    Mousewheel Press = Auto-Run

    I also use a gamepad and switch off depending the situation I'm in and whichever is most comfortable at the time, yes they can be used at the same time in Gamepad mode.

    PS4 Controller:

    L1 = Sprint
    R1 = Jump
    L1+R1 = Dodge Roll
    L1+Cross = Use Synergy
    Start = Menu
    Share = Quickslot
    Cross = Interact (using config B turns Jump OFF on this)
    Square, Triangle, Cricle, Direction Key Left, Direction Key Right = Action Buttons
    Direction Key Up = Toggle Quests
    Direction Key Up Hold = Interact with Player
    Direction Key Down = Ultimate
    Left Joystick Press = Mount
    Left Joystick Hold = Crouch
    Right Joystick Press = Weapon Swap
    Right Joystick Hold = Weapon Sheathe/Unsheathe

    I use a Red Dragon mouse.

    https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-Programmable-Precision-Buttons-Windows/dp/B00GU8W5AE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1541915372&sr=8-6&keywords=razr+naga+mouse

    As i get older i dont quite have the dexterity i did in my teens and 20s nor do i care as much about optimal playing. Red Dragon is cheaper than Razr and works well. There may be small differences like size and finger positions but its definitely a quality mouse.

    My favorite feature is the two left buttons. I have mine set up so i can do all my movement and basic attacks with the mouse. That leaves my keyboard free for action/abilities. The mouse is easy to set up with the program it comes with and it binds the mouse keys to keyboard keys you set. So i can use WASD to move or i can use the mouse to move without making any changes to binding profiles.

    My keys are set up as:
    M1= Attack
    M2= Block
    Scroll wheel = Zoom
    M3( press scroll wheel)= sprint
    M4( 2nd left button) = weapon swap
    M5-M6( behind scroll wheel) =DPI swap. So i can change pointer sensitivity on the fly.

    On the 12 button thumb pad:
    1,4, = Bound to A
    2 = Bound to W
    3,6 = Bound to D
    5= Bound to S
    7-12 = Not bound atm

    So basically the way the movement keys are bound on the side of the mouse i can just roll my thumb in the direction i want to go.

    ESO has an excessive amount of buttons bound for menial tasks. It makes using a keyboard exhausting which is why i got a gaming mouse. I tried a controller but the controller doesnt have the finesse i want. It feels unwieldy and clunky playing which is find if im playing a console game that is built around that clunkiness, but controllers suck for PC games imo.

    Gaming mouse broke... might get new. ATM I use:

    Skills; ALT - space - E - R - F

    weapon set 1 - C and V (I get excited and twitchy so I need 2 keys)

    weapon set 2 - Z

    Dodge roll - shift (changed my life when I 1-key-bound it)

    Sprint to 7 and MMB (mmb better in combat, but you have to press hard so I use 7 when travelling)

    Various stuff to number keys, §, Q etc... less useful stuff on the other side of the keyboard, sheathe weapon to '-' for example.

    I use a gaming mouse, originally a MadCatz MMO7, which is an amazing mouse with all the buttons ever, but the driver is awful and breaks every OS update, so now I use a much less interesting Logitech G402, which has just 4 side buttons but always works.

    Forward: W & mouse side 1
    Back: S & mouse side 2
    Weapon Swap: 6 & middle-click
    Use: E & mouse side 3
    Ultimate: U & mouse side 4 (got tired of accidentally hitting ultimate instead of confirm)
    Quickslot: ` (got tired of accidentally drinking potions when re-grabbing WASD)
    Discord Push-to-Talk: Q (not ideal but easy to reach and harmless)

    Target: R
    Sprint: Ctrl (used to that from other games)

    I'm using a Logitech G510 with 18 G keys. The 6 skills are on the upper G key group. WASD, interact and weapon swap on the middle group. Bottom group is not used in ESO except for one key mapped to H. The "menial task" buttons are default. Numpad is used for the addons like AlphaGear2. These boards or similar from other manufacturers are no longer made as far as I know.

    Mouse is a G602 with 6 thumb buttons. I'm not currently using these except for one which is Discord PTT. Block and interrupt is done with the left and right button as per default. It's not optimal so I may consider using thumb buttons for this.

    I have one spare G510 but I fear that the software will stop working with any Windows update in the future. Logitech is not known for maintaining older equipment. Should this happen I may consider gear like Razer Tartarus or similar.
