yes, but all the free crates in daily rewards did most of this however add recycling of crates so I have that I want and you get more gems then it hits stuff you have, I mostly go after costumes, hair and cheaper stuff in them so has not bought crates in an long time.

Perhaps ultimately the crate based business model was not as promising as it seems and the original plan of a more stable subscription based plan may have had more merit in the long term?

My 2 cents (which is probably worth less than 2 cents):

Although, the free gems were nice, I really didn't get much from the crates besides that. I did however appreciate the option to buy stuff with gems though.

I feel although the player base isn't entitled to the free crates, it seemed like such a small thing to do for your paying ESO+ members and it was a kind gesture. It seems kind of petty to take such a small thing away from the paying ESO+ subscribers especially when it cost ZOS so little.

I guess it was bound to happen. There's too much loose gems among the people, from all the free crates and twitch drops handed out during the summer, and it negatively influences crate sales. I'd expect they will be choking the flow of free crates even further in upcoming months. Twitch drops were already nerfed into Oblivion, they barely even happen - and now our free subscriber crates are going down the drain too...

From a personal standpoint, it's not a huge loss by any means - but it certainly was a nice incentive to resub. You see, I have a habit of purchasing the DLCs whenever they are on discount, so technically, there's no *need* for subscription. Free ESO+ trial gives me all I need: the ability to unload my mules into the crafting bag, thus emptying them for another half a year worth of my dirty casual play. For a reluctant spender like me, an occasional week of free crates helps to sweeten the deal, thus tipping the proverbial scales in favor of subscription. Without those crates, choosing between 12 beers and a month of ESO+ is suddenly way more difficult.

I don't care. I've been subbed since PS4 launch. Have years more of sub. WIll probably sub longer. I'm genuinely ok with some people having ESO+ "free" for the week because it might encourage more subs in general.

I can survive without some crates that will probably give me 10 Nyx Hounds.

Yep. I'm pretty new, but I'm not worrying about it. I actually have got a lot of really great stuff from the crates so far - but jeez, even if I didn't, I wouldn't be crying.

Interestingly, I started ESO plus because of the bonus crates about 4-5 months ago. I went for a month of ESO to get the free crates, (as worked out basically the same price), and after a month of using it, renewed with 6 months.

I honestly don't think I'd have spent any money at all without the crates and you can't miss something you're not use to.

So whilst I don't expect them, I think they'd be surprised how many people sign up for the crates and stay a lot longer.

I was very against Crown Crates when it got introduced (so many items behind RNG), but when more and more Crates was given freely I occasionally bought some in appreciation. This season we got much less then in the previous one(then we got something like 31+10 twitch crate), which feels bad (if it was a reverse situation I would feel good).

The problem with this improvments is the same with many app improvments. There are some extra which few asked for (specified items like molag bal statue), and there are miscontinued bonuses which are now expected and welcomed by many.

@SantieClaws suggestion for 30 Gems is awsome in my opinion. The six crates per 3 month is worth 2250 crown so 750 crown per month. Altough "free to spend" money is better but 1/5 is too big cut. Most of the stuffs are obtainable with Gems, we can see that. So if ZOS wants to marketing the changes as improvments then please ZOS don't be surprised that many are dissapointed because it feels more of a decadency in value.

If the Free Crate strategy was backfired (less people bought crates then before), ZOS have to bear the burden for a longer period(make smaller adjusements and don't advertise zhe changes as improvements) if they didn't want seen very bad.

Also as many mentioned the free ESO+ trials now feels bad when you are paying for that period.

The point of the concerns is that they were given out before and therefore expected this time.

While not intrinsically a part of ESO Plus for many they were seen as a worthwhile benefit of it.

Adding value to ESO Plus was taken to mean just that - adding - not adding one thing and taking away another.

The maths of this one is not so strong but it is possible that when you add something but also take something away you end with about the same thing you started with sometimes no?

Additionally, for some, it seems a bit odd that we pay for a week of ESO Plus when everyone who does not gets many of the same benefits for that week and their coin stays firmly in their pockets.

No big deal either way to Khajiit but for many these things they matter yes.

I must say i have no idea what crates you guys mean, i have eso + for quite a long time and i never got free crates except sometimes during events and now with those daily logins. The only time they gave away free crates you still had to log in and kill something and usualy where a way to announce a new dlc, or expansion.

Example, a 800 crown statue would be 300 crowns for ESO+ member

Right now I feel majority of really cool things in the Crown furnishings are just too expensive to go for, and I rarely if ever, pull the trigger in there.

IMHO ESO+ getting 150 more crowns per month, on rare occasions a free item from the Crown Store.
Special discounted prices on some Crown Store item. Along with the removal of couple of free Crown Crates during ESO+ promo events, Is not a very good added incentive for ESO+.

My opinion is I was looking forward to the free crates and as others have said if they do the norm every 3 months give away free week eso+ are only getting 11 months the crown crates were nice compensation either they need to give us the crates back a free week per month or free month per year or 30 gems . The new rewards are just discounts and before going to non subscribers so no benefit. Plus the murkmire dlc is being given away free so again no compensation for eso .+ subscribers and no word from Zos. They need to at least explain !!

Honestly good riddance to the free gambling boxes, I like the new approach they're rolling out a whole lot better. I don't know why people think they're decreasing ESO+ value when they literally just announced and are launching several new features. It's almost like the gambling boxes have awakened your inner addict and now you miss the ability to scratch the itch. :-o

The crates never replaced anything, though.

The crate seasons are an opportunity to design around a specific theme, offer all basic mount types for that theme at one time, and fit in both new and returning items that wouldn't otherwise receive a release slot in the monthly Showcase.

The system is still very much working as intended.

If anything, the new approach took into account the feedback that people would rather have the opportunity to purchase regularly and directly from the Crown Store than have an occasional chance at something. This thread certainly doesn't represent the entire population, but it appears that this particular subset of players really doesn't know what they want unless it's personally curated for them and as close to free as possible.

So ZOS can't win in any scenario and they should just do what they want with the knowledge that there will be some heavy handed reactions even under the most ideal conditions.

I disagree. Previous months was merry which earned me a lot of gems from those free crates including the log in rewards.

So no, It's not the gambling kicking in, It's the access on free gems. Now if only there are other methods of earning crown gems, most people wouldn't be voicing their opinion here.
