No free crates for ESO+ members during the next trial period

This is obviously the Argonians fault.... :*

Though I really would like muh free crates, as I do save those gems for everything that use to be in the crown store but is now in the crown crates, that cost more crowns and give less gems for the purchases inside of the crates. So somehow they made things cost more and not less. :#

If they only put this creativity and energy into the gameplay and *hint hint* the server(s), or is it just one server....

Oof, imagine if you were a sorcy and lost your crates too~

This. I hate RNG mechanics attached to something that people (can) directly pay money for.

All of my free crates are sitting, unopened, in my account. I have even avoided logging on at certain times so I didn't get more free ones to clutter up my account.

So the news that ZOS is not including them this month, is excellent news to me.

If the Crown Store has to exist at all, then I am far happier with discounted direct purchases than loot boxes.

    Nice work ZOS.

My primary concern is still not touched on...

Me and most of my in-game friends see the free crates as a compensation for the bad server lag that is expected during any free event. (hell, even last night the EU pc server was as erratic as a cat on catnip, and not even a event going on)

So, since I sub as much as possible, but also believe that the junk in the crown store is... Well junk. Why should I even stay online during the double event other than to getting the event rewards?

As a comparison... From a previous crown crate I got 2 large Nocturnal statues... I used them in my tiny house for a laugh. Then after the psijic villa got another laugh when a friend randomly called out "hello *** lady statue!"

And then a different thing will be happening for each individual. Which means more social interaction and fun. How is the new reward system going to compensate for this point?

Yep the ESO community is the single most whiney of MMo communities.

I doubt seriously the tantrums of canceling accounts is going to affect anything significant......the company averages around Six hundred million in revenue a year, one of the few companies that is even close to that is Rockstar, and they have a much higher operating cost.

But carry on...the salt is entertaining.

This reeks of me as an attempt to get ES0+ members to spend more money in the Crown Store above and beyond the Allowance they get for their sub. It reeks of a double dip attempt.

Oh.. we're not gonna give you these crates free, but we'll give you a 30% discount .... but you won't know we'll change the RNG to our favour so you have to use up your Crown Allowance and buy more to get what you want.

    Hi everyone,

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. Our goal is to provide our ESO Plus members with valuable benefits and exclusive offers on a more consistent cadence every month, instead of a few bonus rewards every once in a while.

In addition to the original ESO Plus membership benefits such as full DLC access and the Craft Bag, on November 13 we will launch additional monthly improvements to our ESO Plus membership. These new benefits - available only to paid ESO Plus members - include exclusive Crown Store items and deals, free in-game collectibles, and an increase to the monthly Crown stipend. If you haven't yet, you can learn more about them here.

Unfortunately, these changes are irrelivent to the lost FREE period for subscribers. These new features are supposed to improve and “grow” eso+, not replace or offset a reduction in a different area. Let’s assume you do 4 free to play weeks in a whole year. That means that subscribers pay 12 month subscription, and one month of that is wasted as they payed for time that was free to non eso plus members. Previously you had given away a crown crate for each day the free to use eso plus event was going on, and this was a great solution, as plus members got something for time lost, and it encouraged non subscriber to join the eso lus program and get the added benefits of crowns that month. I understand that a comparison can be made to a gym giving away a week or two week pass for free, but that is for NEW members. I think it’s perfectly acceptable to give away an initial trial phase to print new subscribers into a program, but it is a completely different scenario to have your already paying members pay for the time that others get for free and not compensate them with the time lost. I would suggest reverting the crown crate decision, or finding another way to elevate the time lost, or simply extending the expiration date of all subscriptions by one week for the time that should have been actual “free”.

If eso plus covers 30 days of service provided for 15$, then this month you will collect 15$ for 23 days of services rendered, simple as that.

I know people will say the eso plus members are complaining that they don’t get something, but this has to do with the service those members signed up for and are paying for. Keep in mind this month they already stipped off a brand new DLC and gave it away for free and thus the value of eso plus did not “grow” with this dlc content. I am pretty sure that if anyone rented a car from a dealership and had to pay for 12 months, while the same dealership gave every person that doesn’t rent a car a whole month of free car rentals ... they would be a little upset about it. It doesn’t matter how much extra it is, if it is a free week, all players should be able to recieve It regradless of standing.

LOL. I figured it shows Zos has a sense of humor giving us a furnishing that is a statue of the creature that stole our soul, tried to take over Nirn and we had to muster everything we had to defeat him and lost friends along the way.

Same kind of humor they show us with the patch notes for each update.

This makes me really sad, I was always looking forward to the free crates as it is the only gem income for me and I enjoyed the reward for being a loyal subscriber.
But now... I get to get 150! crowns instead of 5-7 crates? Can I buy those crates with 150 extra crowns? I guess not, not even a single one crate *sigh*... but hey, I get to have a special Molag Bal miniature... and a special limited discount for the biggest crate pack (I don't buy crates, cause I know my chances).

Btw. it seems to me that Twitch drops were nerfed beyond imagination (if they still even work) and there are so few crates as daily rewards :( ...

I do not like where this is going.

That's not entirely accurate: if for any reason I won't be able to log in the game for 24 days this month I'll still be able to access Murkmire, being an ESO+ subscriber.
The same goes for newcomers: someone joining ESO for the first time today wouldn't be able to claim the DLC, but could still enjoy it for "free" by subscribing.

As for the free crates: I honestly won't miss them, but I understand the complaints and were I in charge I'd have given them as usual, if only to prevent this kind of discussion

Alas it is as I feared, less and less free stuff and more mind game gimmicks.

The discounted mount price is nothing but a gimmick because even if you pay for a discounted price right now, I bet people can get it at a larger discounted price in December via crown sale in the upcoming Friday the 13th & Christmas which will be around 20-50% off because it is non-exclusive after all. However, 30% off Hollowjack Crown Crates – 15-Crate Bundle and probably for future crates is a good deal but excluding other bundle sizes is just foul.

IMO, free crates are still better than the additional 150 crowns and some exclusive lazily modeled free stuffs like the statue we're getting. Remember, even if you only get trash loots from them, those gems still come in handy and don't forget your chance to get an Radiant/Apex mount which is far better than what it is offered right now.

This one can perhaps summarise what is the issue here - if you like the crates or even if you do not.

It is that something was anticipated because of the usual pattern of events before. Crates or no crates it is the unexpected change, which many regard as a loss, that causes the displeasure.

Yes there are changes to the store for Plus travellers - but at no time during the promotion of those changes was it mentioned that other rewards previously offered would no longer apply.

Personally this one would like to see perhaps about 30 gems a month offered with ESO Plus. A free item is nice but the chances of that one item appealing to most of us in any one month is slim - now if it were perhaps a choice between two or three items that would be better and would end up with more travellers being pleased with the item they receive.

They pretty much have to for fairness' sake. Fine with me, TBH.

I don't particularly feel like I'm missing out on anything if I don't get "compensation." I find crates to be annoying, especially since I have RNjeezus' wrath these days. They're a waste of emotional energy and give me decision fatigue. I might be out a couple of XP scrolls or riding lessons without the gems, but *shrug* Not a big deal. I think I'd take it over having to watch and listen to Pacrooti doing his raise-the-excitement shtick.

There's a lot of zos white knights in here. A couple points:
    1. Some have mentioned items/services going on sale after you buy. I would point out that you're a fool if you DON'T go back to the store and get the sale price. Or, price match through credit card. With services like cable, all you have to do is call them and you can get the new customer price. I mean, really, "a fool and his money are soon parted."
    2. If you go into a restaurant and buy a burger, pay $4, and then after you the cashier gives free burgers to everyone then you will be mad too. Just because you don't see the ESO+ scenario the same, does not mean it isn't.
    3. Zos can just add 1 week to all our subs to make up for the free week.

If you'd tried 1. in any shop I've ever worked in you'd be told "I'm very sorry you missed this promotion, better luck next time maybe". And you could shout and stamp and demand to speak to the manager all you like (and trust me people do) or threaten to report us to Trading Standards or your MP or your mum or whatever other authority figure you imagine might be able to change it and even if you actually did nothing at all would happen. You didn't qualify for the promotion, end of discussion.

As for 2. if you've ever eaten in a restaurant and didn't assume at least 1 table was using a voucher or some other offer to get a discount on the exact same meal you're getting then you're deluding yourself.

    3. They can, but they won't.

This might be a regional thing, but at least in the US and at several big box retailers in Canada, it's standard policy to give customers price protection for 30 days in case the item they purchased goes on sale soon after. Many big box retail chains also offer internet price matching to compete with Amazon. Local mom and pop shops might not be able to offer similar policies, but a lot of them do. I have no idea what standard retail policies are in Mexico, but for the majority of North American citizens, price protection policies are almost considered a norm.

This excludes credit card protection, which is another standard.

ZoS is a large North American company, so expecting similar attitudes toward customer satisfaction isn't totally unreasonable.

At least in perception. The thing is, if the event works as intended, there will be more than enough tickets in the Undaunted Event to buy that feather, AND the CWC feather. But, a lot of people might not have realized that the feathers will remain available for future events.

I do not like where this is going.

    Two things floating through this:

First, unless you're intentionally chasing a radiant apex, the crates have a finite sale value. You're either going to get the gems you need to buy what you want, or you'll get what you want, after purchasing a finite number of crates. (That value varies, because you can get vastly different gem payouts in different crates, and I've pulled 400 gems from a pack of 15 before, with an Apex.) But, ultimately, there's only so many crates ZOS can sell you in a given season. The more crates you buy from a given season, the more items convert into gems, and the faster your gem gain becomes. This starts to stack up very quickly (in comparison to other MMOs.)

Now, I'd like it if we got more crates. I'd love to see retired crates popping up in the login rewards with more frequency. And, I do like the idea of padding out the month with crates, rather than gold. But, at the end of the day, it is possible to oversaturate crate supplies.

Second one is the Ouroboros Crates. That's what we're talking about with Twitch. As far as I can tell, the entire point of those is to help new players who were introduced to the game from Twitch, by tossing them some extra goodies. Aside from the Mount and Pet, those crates are nothing but trash. So, getting worked up over them is more than a bit odd. But, like I said, if you really want to get those crates, make sure you do all your purchasing through one of the ESO streamers, and you'll get a crate immediately.

There's an entire discussion on Twitch drops I don't really want to get into. But, getting an Ouroboros crate or not really isn't something to get worked up about.
