Maybe I'm just a pessimistic prick, but this fills me with worry -- not excitement.

Seems to me ZOS has a hard enough time just handling this one thing. Can't wait to see how they juggle two.

Actually, it doesn't fill me with anything. Kinda falls in the "meh, okay..." bucket. But am not looking forward to basically any future patches at this point; and I don't want that feeling getting worse if their attention and efforts are further divided or misguided.

I am sure that whatever they use for loot boxes will be awesome. They will probably even have some sort of online game or MMO to go with it to attract people to them, like they did with Crown Crates.

ESO is an old game that relies heavily on its console population (2/3 of the total population). With ZOS being unable to upgrade the graphics in the game due to engine limitations, there will almost certainly be a population decline when the next gen of consoles launch and players expect improved graphics from their games. This is where a new game comes in.

I would personally prefer an ESO 2, but I'm fine with a new IP, as long as it's not Fallout/Wolfenstein/Doom online as I don't find any of those universes interesting. ZOS is the best MMO dev out there by a fair margin, so I'm intrigued by this new project.

That's Bethesda though, isn't it? ZOS has nothing to do with that release, afaik. I was excited to play that, too. Was supposed to come out beginning of September, now delayed until December.

When the play testers visited ZOS HQ for the Summerset preview it was noted that ZOS were expanding the offices for some reason. It’s possible that they were getting ready for this. It would make sense that some work has already been done towards the new IP already, however it took ZOS 7 years to develop ESO. I reckon we will be seeeing the new game out around 2024/2025... in which case ESO will be 10 years + old.

I hope not. I really don't like the fallout universe. Waay too depressing to spend much time there.

Not sure how I feel about ZOS potentially working on two products considering the time pressure they already face just for ESO. Although considering the masses of jobs they're advertising it would seem it'll be two very different teams.

I wonder what it is though, as it says new IP.

A new IP altogether or a new IP for them …?

Would be very risky taking on a totally unknown IP and this one cannot see them doing that no.

Therefore it must be an already well known IP that isn't yet an MMO.

Do we already have a Harry Potter online?

Good point, I guess it could be a new IP for ZOS but an IP already owned by Bethesda. I wonder which ones would be strong enough to hold up as an MMO though? Fallout surely would but with Fallout 76 around the corner wouldn't that be overshadowed by a full MMO entry into the series.

The Harry Potter IP was actually recently discussed on a tabletop RPG podcast I listen to.
Apparently the reason a tabletop RPG (and I would imagine an online RPG) doesn't exist is because the nice lady who writes it doesn't want to give creative control to others for her world, which means studios wouldn't be able to write quests and stories for it.
There are rumours of one however, so maybe she's working with a company to get something or maybe she's allowed creative control for a game?

- MMO aaa+ projects take YEARS to develop, years to perfect and tweak. Just like working on chapters in ESO is at least a year-long work. In fact, work on ESO started in 2007, even before Skyrim.

- ESO has never been more advanced and popular than now - ditching the project in this state would be like mass suicide, rather than shooting themselves in the foot. That's not how multi-million projects work. Though doomsday guys like to feel important with their fears and "predictions".

- Many big and successful companies have multiple IPs. If one game becomes good, next one follow. It's like saying I fear for Elder Scrolls series because of the Fallout or whatever IP franchise comes next.

- This is not new. The position for new employees have been here for quite a while, months if not almost a year. Nothing in this business comes out of the blue.
