Frozen Gate is useless...what are your suggestions?

Lets just be honest with each other, this skill Frozen Gate is absolutely useless in PVP and PVE and way way too situational.

The whole skill needs a rework imo.

What do you magicka wardens suggest?

I know this skill is used and loved by a lot of Warden tanks. So my suggestions would be merge the morphs together (as i find the Ally synergy a bit silly) and then make one morph a magicka DPS skill.

It has 2 uses I've seen, one new one to me even.

    1) It's a pull just like the DK chains but much more forgiving in targeting rather than having to hit the specific enemy, and it can be aimed through the boss without having to find a way to look around it to target the correct enemy like chains. That makes it better than chains to me.

    2) It can be used to great effect denying enemies access to something they really want, in pvp mainly. I watched a video on Youtube of a warden using it to teleport players away from somebody they were trying to res back into the warden's frost fields.
It was hilarious and surprisingly useful at keeping them in the damage and their friends down.

Or putting it on a postern door and watching as someone frantically rushes to get into the keep only to be pulled back into the field.

I just use Silver Leash on my Warden tank. Frozen Device has a wait time for it to be armed and ready. Leash is instant. This is pve norm Trials. Haven’t tried off tanking vet trials just yet.

sooooo much yes to your first point. when dragonknight tanks have to turn vashai a bit to pull adds and negate placement gets messed up, a warden tank will never have that problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong but frozen device doesn't understand what mobs you want to pull so if skinrai adds happen to go past your frozen device they get pulled to you.
I use silver leash when on warden in vmol, the warden pull is just not useful plus it takes too long.

Everything is situational. It depends on what you know or what you want to risk for any benefit.

My point is that this ability is not useless, aside from the ally teleport which doesn't seem very useful at all given the short range. I'm used to an ally teleport that works across the entire world in City of Heroes, which was very useful as the fastest player getting to our goal.

This is a great skill that differentiates Warden tanking from tanking on other classes.

Silver Leash is a replacement for the DK's chains. Sorc, Templar, and NB all have to use it. I'm glad there's a class skill that Wardens can use instead.

However, the concept of a "frozen gate" is weak. It would fit better as a "Dark Gate" or "Dark Portal" in the Shadow skill line of the NB.

Dude don't talk trash about my Frozen Gate, use that skill in both PvE and PvP and I love it. Its a great magicka grab ability like chain, I don't have to waste stamina with Silver Leash and I can quickly cast multiple traps to grab a lot of targets quickly. And in PvP? OMG its hilarious to stand inside or outside a breach in a wall with my PvP tank and use that skill to teleport people out of their pack and into mine, nuking them down as soon as they are out of range of all their healers. Lots of rage whispers are to be had with it.

I will admit that on the Twins in Maw Silver Leash is required as you might grab the wrong add otherwise, but that fight leaves large time gaps for you to heavy attack back your stamina after multiple silver leach pulls. But seriously, "too situational"? ITS A UTILITY SUPPORT SKILL! Not everything has to deal damage. The skill is great as is, no need to make a rework of a fully functioning and well used skill.

There needs to be a much greater difference between the morphs. It's absolutely amazing as a base skill - but unless you'er a PvE magicka warden tank who needs a pull (a very specific role and area of content in the game) it's absolute garbage.

I tried using it on my heavy armor, frost staff magicka warden in pvp for the Major Maim, but it's extremely clunky AND...well, is counter productive. The root is nice and the major maim is nice, but why in the heck would I EVER want to bring someone that close to me? Even on a light armor magicka warden, it's madness.

Maybe a powerful DoT + root for one morph, keep root + pull/ally synergy to the other morph. Wardens are in dire need of some DPS help after the out-of-the-blue nerf to bear.

Alternatively, a morph that teleports someone AWAY from me instead of towards me would be a good split btwn the morphs.

My wife is a Warden tank and she uses it quite effectively for controlling enemy NPC’s in our dungeon runs. It’s better than DK chains because it’s a lot easier to target. So I wouldn’t say it’s useless in PVE at all.

Frozen Gate is actually good if you have the patience to learn how to use it right.

    Not rework worthy.

Magden suffers from not having enough damage skills... especially ice damage skills... lol Morrowind promotional... Make Frozen Device the defacto Tank skill and make Frozen Retreat the dps morph. Example: Frozen Retreat reworked into an ability that does burst ice damage, applies an ice dot, and roots targets that run over it (up to 3 targets per rune cast) in addition to placing a synergy (one that doesn’t disappear until ability is recast) that players can active to gap close to you (Frozen Retreat morph specifically reduced to one trap at a time to prevent trolling people with huge damage from triple trap stack)... Retreat is frankly awful in its current state as it is the support morph but with tank functionality... what tank is gonna stand on the back lines to pull allies out of danger? This ability should be reworked into a dps utility ability as stated above so that Magden gains more options to play as a cryomancer and so they can gain access to more cc in the form of area denial

DoT AoE Root, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, gripping shards. Sure that does leave out burst dmg and a synergy from your list but seriously just need to add a heal to that for most of skill ever. Can't have it all in one. But yeah the retreat thing is not really a big thing and never seen anyone use it, but your suggestion was over the top. AoE ice dot trap would have been enough.

I used to use the frozen device on my warden tank, but it was taking too long to cast and wasn't as reasonable as the DK chains. Currently, I use the silver leash instead, even though it cost loads of stam. The DK chains are always going to be the best, but I am thinking about swapping to the portal again to give it another shot.

I highly disagree, Frozen Gate is legitimately the best chain pull with a really high skill cap, in arena's it's uncontested when it comes to saving time and gathering enemies. in addition to the fact it's not a hard CC allows for amazing synergy with wardens other skills so you have high stun, root, and chain pull capabilities. I liked a video of a score run I did in vBRP using Frozen Device. It definitely doesn't need a rework right now it's extremely powerful. In score, group runs we haven't been able to justify having a different tank outside of just having unchained titles on other toons. When we push for score we bring a warden tank because the pre-chain, the speed of which a pull can happen is just insane. Sorry to come across in a shutdown manner, I just think the skill is super undervalued and there are very few cases I'd ever consider silver leash over it. It's just oo strong.

What do you magicka wardens suggest?

    1) Frozen Gate is totally useful to Warden PvE Tanks at the least (see @Styxius for evidence)
    2) Why rework Frozen Gate and not just Frozen Retreat?
    3) What does this skill have to do with Magicka Wardens as it is a support skill in the tanking line of the class?

Lay these down at a postern door or keep gate and just suck enemies out to instant death. Or use them to cut off the escape of a fleeing Nightblade. So many uses and invaluable for PvE tanking as well.

Frozen Gate has a lot of uses if you think outside of the box a little.

I use it in BGs to pull enemies towards my team so we can kill them, or pull them off of a flag. Also comes in handy in PvE like the person who posted that video. I am mainly PvP tho. I've used it to pull enemies into a keep they just breached so they can get sieged and nuked.
