Push button receive very powerful defences.I like shields are being addressed, I can see where ZOS is trying to go with this but I think it's been a brute force first pas which has ruffled peoples feathers.
That said I think any changes to shields were going to ruffle feathers, so ZOS might as well have gone all out and see what works.
What exactly was the problem with shields in the first place?
PvP had little counter play past applying more DPS than could be shield spammed or sustained through.
PvE they became invulnerablity in most cases. You could just shield your way through all the mechanics.
I would have loved to see them become active block shields which drained magicka personally, more like wards in Skyrim.

Even with the PvP counter play though they've remained very strong. A good player could keep shields up for long periods of time and never really take any damage even when fighting vast numbers.LadyNalcarya wrote: »Push button receive very powerful defences.I like shields are being addressed, I can see where ZOS is trying to go with this but I think it's been a brute force first pas which has ruffled peoples feathers.

This is simply not true.
Pvp-wise, there is counterplay. The most obvious way is to cc the opponent and drain their stamina, this isnt even that hard if you're fightning against an average player. There's also Oblivion damage and cost poisons.
Pve-wise... Sorry, but it sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about. All pve content since patch 1.6 is designed for dds with shields or vigor, even if they already have a healer in group.
Take vMoL hardmode, for example. You need a shield or instant cast heal when you're doing the backyard mechanic (check it on youtube if you dont know what it is) and when you return you have a healing debuff and have an aoe around you that damages your teammates. There's also constant unavoidable environmental damage (meteors, popcorn). Ok, top groups can just burn Rakkhat without spending too much time on mechanics. But what about average groups? It will be virtually impossible for them.
Same for vMA. Sure, you can avoid red circles, but there are situations when you have to shield, if you ever tried vMA, you'd know that. Again, it's easy for top players but what about newbies who will have to farm their bows and staves?
There's a lot of examples... I'm pretty sure that you already know that. Honestly, it's really baffling to see a "Community Ambassador" writing something like this.

Oblivion damage and poisons can work yes, things like Shield Breaker but then we're going down the route of having to use specific counters (which can't be change on the fly in terms of gear) for one play style. Which if I am not wrong is also a large complaint with Nightblade cloaking, there are counters but people don't want to change a whole build to deal with one type of defence.
PvE I agree, but that's also my point. Shields became the thing you just spam to get past a mechanic, rather than ZOS having to actually invent interesting mechanics or players having to play mechanics and solutions.
You're right in this is going to harm average players far more than the top ones, I am going to suffer immensely from this update, but at the same time I see where ZOS is coming from with a skill that just grants a second health bar the instant it's pushed. You can watch sorc players running vMA and they can just keep a shield up almost permanently and never take any damage (I believe Alcast's farming run streams have him doing this).
Also come on, my CA status has nothing to do with my knowledge or ignorance of the game. Let's stop using it as something to call and and focus on actual discussion of the issue.
Now I don’t have to decide what to play today - my magblade or my magsorc

Class reps are just like our politicians. They promise mountains made of gold for us, but in the end, whenever they can they try to push their own agenda.

They did not address their issues with double barring them, or the effectiveness of some of their morph actives. In addition to that they did not rework Bound Aegis to the point that it feels useful.
There were a lot of nerfs without any meaningful compensations in other abilities.
And the most detrimental is the 1 second cast time on shields. I mean I'd rather play a stamina bow/bow build now than a magicka character in trials.
Sadly I have not played much the class the past year as nightblades were a lot stronger. Now they are buffing magicka DKs and Templars (might switch to them if they are good enough).
