So, I've been thinking about this and want to know what others think. How do you feel about the state of ESO right now? PVP and PVE. Do you think the overall population is growing, declining, or staying the same? Is it different for PVP and PVE? Why do you think so? I've got my own opinions, but was just wondering how others perceive things. And it is, really, all down to perception. Zen/Bethesda will never release the raw, true data, and they have a vested interest to paint things as best they can, so who really knows?

I feel like the population is about half of what it was 2 years ago. I started in Cyrodiil basically on day 1 of early release and from what I see, it's all but dead. Sure there are still lots of people that play, but when a faction is pop locked at 50 (or so ) players, that's just a drop in the bucket. In the first 1.5 years of this game you could go to any of the many campaigns and see 2/3 of the keeps burst at any given time. Day or night. Nowadays if you run more than 12 you are a terrabad zerger. We used to be in TS with 3 full raids. And that was just our guild alone. PvE? That's still pretty solid I think. Group finder sucks but there are still lots of quarters about. That's what I see anyway.

Emily is awesome, I had misjudged her once, then by chance spent time with her in IC when I started my NB's. Selflessly she taught a stranger how to kill things better. I hope she decides to come back.

Yea, pop is down for sure and not just in Kyne. Even Sotha is pretty quiet off-hours, and Shor is nearly always dead save for a few hours at night. Vivec has people all around, but even in that campaign there isn't always an organized group on for each faction.

Midyear Mayhem was pretty fun because all 3 factions were poplocked, but man is it weird that this only happens like once a year now.

Good for, Em. Saw her on an ep in IC. On pvp population, @Lumsdenml, you know the answer to that question.

Look at kyne, remember how bwb was? Pvp in under 50 is about dead 75%ish of the time. You get bursts of population on AD or EP.

Then you get factions that dominate and kill the campaign or server with no regards.

    .

Well, yes from the first time I came into Cyrodiil (summer of 2015), but not sure from a year ago. I'd say over the past year, PVP has been about the same pop. But the game as a whole, I believe, has increased in population.

I agree that Cyrodiil was a more vibrant place when I first entered it, but PVE land was pretty empty when you got into the higher zones (Stormhaven, Ravenspire, etc). And when I started Cadwell's Sliver, I was shocked when I saw ANYBODY! I think that the two big catalysts for population growth have been FTP and One Tamriel.

Assuming I am right, that PVE has increased and PVP decreased, why do you think that is? (again, I have my opinions, but would love to hear everyone's)

Server performance in PvP in unacceptable for a game of this size. Vivec in particular.

No attention has been paid to Cyrodiil in a long, long time. Hopefully next patch changes that.

Slight bit of community criticism, but I think a lot of experienced people have fallen very comfortable with the people they run with and have not done a lot to include newer players.

Buying any motifs with AP would be a great way to incentivize PvP over PvE content. I do PvE once in a while, but spending 2-3 weeks farming the motifs in the new dungeons is just such a grind that I rarely bother to. But lots of people will prioritize this over PvP.

I think pop has increased in spurts and we’ve had small influx of new players but new players are very quickly put off by the rampant toxicity of even their own faction players making fun when they ask for groups, enemy juvenile behavior, teabagging, etc.

I’m constantly wondering “WTF is wrong with other ESO players that they don’t see how their behavior is discouraging to new players” :'(

This is Kyne, the newbie campaign and rather than rolling out the welcome mat, most players grief and 1vX new players relentlessly to the point they quickly develop a negative view of ESO PvP. What the *** is wrong with you all...???

I just ask because some of those reasons you listed would kill all pop, not just pvp (Boredom, New Games, Etc.). I may be wrong in that the pve pop is up and pvp down, but if that is the case, why? But if I am right, that gives hope that it could be fixed.

Based on the only objective data we have (and likely the only we'll ever have), population is up slightly from last year, and up dramatically from every year before that.

TBH, it's almost more discomforting that overall population has likely increased while population in PvP has almost certainly decreased.

A very ad hoc conclusion might be that the change away from required sub has reduced the "seriousness" of the playerbase. Coupled with the reduction in time it takes to unlock alliance skills, you have less people PvPing for mandatory skills (and filling campaigns)...

I’m not sure I follow. I am not a new player. Memes and trash talk cannot mask the fact that the behavior of Kyne players is the biggest factor in the low pop levels and overall negative appeal of the campaign.

New players may not post here, but the regulars can’t pretend to be oblivious as to what their relentlesss zerging and constant negative behavior brings about. Why would people keep logging into a map to be zerged at every possible fight??

To feed some lametards AP? No Thanks!

    Several reasons I'd say,
    Game performance
What ppl perceive as class imbalance.
    Boredom
    New games, etc.

The things that kill every game that has come along.

Every good thing comes to an end at some point.

Do you think the overall population has increased or decreased?

I've been down this road. What I quickly learned was that the forums are not the place for new players to address those concerns. I was given excuses, trash talked and inundated with stupid memes.

I think he was saying thesame thing you are. He chose to come here when he first started ( I advised against this ) because he knew the responsible parties frequented the forums. He was met with the same mob mentality as is in Cyrodiil.
