Fishing DLC

It would be really awesome to see an overhaul of the fishing system, it could be more engaging like a mini-game. Also, an epic fishing trip/adventure storyline involving something mad-silly with Sheogorath or whatever. IDK figure it out ZOS. This scale-back wants more content surround fishing/fish. :P

EDIT: Some ideas(Not all for the same rework, but brainstorming);
  1. Fishing Pole - Aesthetic collectibles to change the appearance of your rod, rods you can craft in any motif style?
  2. Fishing costumes
  3. Contests/tournaments
  4. Skill line - Would add passive bonuses to fishing
  5. Gear set - Set bonuses to further your passive bonuses with skill line
  6. Random events - Rescue a fisherman and receive some goods; bait, recipe, etc
  7. Weather impact - Depending on the weather depends on % chance to catch certain rare fish perhaps? Merchants can sell a guide you can carry like the Litany of Blood, that will list weather and how it will affect your fishing.
  8. Craft-able fishing lures

If it doesn't turn into a mini-game, at least a skill-line could still be possible at that point. General idea below of what could be done.

Fishing Skill-line (Passive bonuses)
Fish Fillet Technique - Increases the chances acquiring rare provisioning materials by 1%/3%/5%
Angler's Eye - Increases the fish allowance in a fishing hole by 2/4/6
Active Fish - Increases your chances of catching rare fish during dusk or dawn by 3%/6%/9%

*Didn't know what else to add, could use some more ideas.*

If they revamped fishing it would be cool. I like how in BDO you can go sailing & fish in open water, and if you jump off the ship you can go harpooning as well. Sea monster hunting with guildmates is a thing. You can build your own sailboat or just buy a raft, and you can go pvp in the water against other galleys. Fishing & harpooning itself involves a mini-game where you press the letters it says so you can catch it. Different fish drop from different areas & there's events that drop valuable items you can sell. And if you want to AFK, your character can fish AFK as long as you have inventory slots and you are logged on.

I kinda doubt it'll get overhauled. Most I'd expect to see are more rewards being added. As is, a lot of people are already enjoying the system, so reinventing the system has far more risks than benefits.

I mean, we could see outfit system elements or costumes tied to fishing. We'll probably see more recipes tied to fishing. Adding the motif wasn't planned, but it was a nice incentive.

I kinda feel having stuff bind on pickup tied into fishing is a mistake, given how RNG based it is, but the buy in is just time and bait.

Summerset gave me a new enthusiasm for my favourite activity. It would indeed be great to have more of this. One can never have enough wet gunny sacks but I love fishing in Artaeum and Summerset.

Perhaps fishing dailies & tournaments (feature that is once every so often) as well.

I didn't really have an interest in fishing until I created a character who is a Bosmer huntress. At that point, I couldn't justify just walking by all those fishing holes all the time, so I said to myself "yup, this plucky little Bosmer is going to be the character I get master angler on." Turns out, it's quite enjoyable as an activity. Relaxing. You can sit there, listen to the sounds, look at the scenery, marvel at the beauty of it all. Some zones are better for that than others, sure. There are a few I see myself returning to for the aesthetics even after getting all the fish out of them.

Speaking of which, that elusive blue monkfish. You will be mine!

I would prefer they add a hunting minigame. Yeah you can kill deer and squirrels but it's just lame how easy they die, and you don't get much of value from them. They should create a hunting minigame that requires some skill or effort to aim and kill the animal with a well placed shot. Add a new rare provisioning ingredient and various furnishing items like racks, furs, skulls.

I thought this post was gonna be about how there is no incentive to fish in DLC zones lol. No dyes, no titles, no furnishings unlocked. Spend your bait and hours of your time to fish in the DLC zones and all you get is a little achievement that only you can even see. No thanks.

Fishing dailies. Catch amount of type of fish at this location.
Trophy fish that can be taken to a taxidermist and mounted for a home furnishing. Can also be applied to hunting.
Just a few thoughts on it.

Give us different fishing poles we can unlock or craft! We could make them white all the way through to gold tier in quality. Make it a woodworking item with different styles to learn. Or a rare drop or something.

Different ones could give unique bonuses. +15% chance to find gunny sacks, +10% chance to find housing items, 5% chance to catch double the fish...

Honestly, any new addition to fishing would be nice. We get a few nuggets now and then, Perfect Roe, new fishing food, new furniture that drops from fishing, but it would be really cool to get some kind of revamp of the entire fishing system as a whole.

Another idea would be to change a useless set like Adept Rider into a fishing set. And like others have mentioned in this thread, being able to place rare throphy fish inside our homes would be awesome too. I doubt it will ever happen, but giving each rare fish a unique texture would be a nice touch.

But something as simple as being able to dye our fishing rod would also make me very happy i guess :joy:

    I second this.

Also I think a fishing contest would be awesome. I have fond memories of Booty Bays Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza contest every sunday in Word of Warcraft. I would love to see something similar in ESO.

No I would not like fishing to become a mini game. I finally tried and doing fishing a lot now. I just like how it's "see rod move, hit A". This way I can relax and just enjoy the beautiful environment and listen to the music.

You should really explain. We could get an overhaul and you can hate it. All Zenimax can see is people want an overhaul and with no explanations, they will do what ever and it can turn out worse.

I’d have no issues with Zos revamping fishing a bit but fishing should never be the focus of any DLC or major quest line. Side quest with fishing is fine but nothing major.

My personal wish would be to add some more trophy worthy fish, like the purple Crabslaughter fish from Orsinium. Maybe some new purple fishes or even a very rare golden fish would be so awesome. I love trophies and always keep the rare purple stolen goods that Legerdemain NPCs can rarely drop. My dearest artifacts are Auri-El's quiver and the Aldmeri gemstone.

They sometimes are easter eggs too. Bendu Olo is the default character name in TES Oblivion and TES Blades. :)

Variable input values while fishing to make it feel more active and skill based, daily quests from a fishing guild which reward for catching specific fish, a gunny sack loot table buff, a skill line for fishing that levels with caught fish and gives fishing based passives, item sets that give fishing based bonuses, and more lengendary tier collectibles and motif pages that come only from fishing in specific zones

Fishing in eso is very basic and there is much potential. So an upgrade pack wouldn't be a bad idea for those that do enjoy the environment and just like to hang out. More options and ways to enjoy fishing with friends and other players would be nice indeed.

Perhaps being able to feed certain spots late in the evening,to have a chance to increase the fishpool sizes in that area the next day?

buying a fisher's boat to sail out with few friends ,gaining an increase in furniture drops and new unseen things to drop
Maybe you could even provide local villages with fish when you return to the docks?

If they did this in an instanced setting sort of like dungeons, or zoned like zones, i see this being very possible thing. Would be cool if it was guild associated, then they could make it to where a guild with crafters of all crafts able to contribute to the construction.

I think LOTRO had better fishing, even better animations and more depth to it, as well as being able to craft and trade unique fishing rods, imagine the cosmetic money zos would pull in alone on fishing rod skins with special effects :D

I miss fishing with mates in LOTRO using all the rods I crafted for them by the fire I just put down, just chatting crap for hours lol

So many missed opportunities in ESO.

rather ,they have the opportunity to add depth to fishing.
Next to all these great content updates, creating content for players enjoying areas they love to spend time in,is equally important

what if some fishing areas would only be accessible if the currents allow it? certain weeks a fishingship could sail to magical coral reefs ,the other week to the perilous siren coasts where a lot of treasure is to be uncovered from the stranded ships there.
All these unique places could offer materials to craft different kinds of fishing rods
Guilds might unlock certain unique furniture & shells, unlocking on the guild succesful catch rate
