Maintenance for the week of April 6:

Anyone else feel like we got screwed?

    A lot of people purchased the game early as a result of the indicated 5 or 3 day early access "bait" aka what we say we'll offer you so that you'll go ahead and buy our product. This was one of the selling points for pre-purchase. How many people would have pre-purchased the game if they had been told that there would be some major downtime (something like 20+hours now)? I think I would have waited had I known. I understand there have been unanticipated problems... but the planned maintenance in the middle of the day, for 3-4 hours the day before "official" launch... probably not the best idea (imho). I would have done the scheduled maintenance at maybe 1 AM EST? I'm just saying..

    1am EST is 10pm my time, *** me right? You people are crying just to cry. And I would have pre-ordered the game even without the early access. Please pull your heads out of your asses.

    I see people trying the hard sell with statements like "WoW has a new expansion coming out, I'm a big cash shop spender" etc, like any company is supposed to defecate in their panties over the money they may or may not get out of these peoples pockets? If you're unhappy then bail, it's not a prison. Request a refund, leave the game behind & god speed.

    You obviously don't know the difference between being constructive & involved in the community vs being the squeaky wheel looking for some sort of recompense when you don't deserve any. It's people like this that ruin games for everyone. Take your money & hit the bricks I say. Cheers, -MisterToe

    I don't feel ripped off. I am concerned with their maintenance practices. To date they have not held to IT conventions, standards and best practices. To perform launch day maintenance earlier than regional launch is not a good thing and I hope its not their common practice.

    Personally I was really irritated, not angry, because I took time off to game and then there was a LONG 14 hour shutdown. All I can imagine is that it was a big issue.

    After all, this is a game that will likely be measured in years of play, not minutes, hours, weeks and months. Like vanilla WoW was in its day (up to WotLK - I quit when you could kill Arthus...) this is a MASSIVE GAME with some great new mechanics, tons to do, great freedom in play style, amazing character creation, great graphics, stable servers, interesting quests (some more difficult than others) and just generally a really well put together game.

    By next week when thousands of new players are rolling in this will all be forgotten.

    I've been pleasantly surprised by how stable and functional things have been.

    Anyone who expected it to be better than it was is new to MMOs, never played the Beta, or suffers from delusions.

    So I'm quite happy with the minimal problems and short down times.

    Hey folks,

    We want you to know that everyone who was part of Early Access will be granted an extended grace period until Sunday at 8AM EDT/12PM GMT before being required to transition your account to live. This will cover those who purchased ESO from an online retailer and won't be getting your box shipped in time and also gives anyone who purchased digitally more Early Access time.

    Awesome. Keep up the good work :D

    Yes 100% we got screwed as we did NOT receive what was advertised.

    I for one would NOT have pre ordered if I knew it would be such a raw deal. It was total bait and switch which is a terrible way to do business and retain customers.

    What do you mean by "transition your account to live"?

    Thats what im wondering im guessing it means putting in your CC info

    part of the pre-order deal was the the first month of game subscription would be included... what if i don't want to set up a recurring subscription?

    Do we need a joke emoticon?

    I agree completely. I did not pre-order ESO for early access. I pre-ordered ESO for ESO, as I fell in love with the game during my first round of beta (Which was a LOT different from the game we've been playing). Early Access, for me, WAS indeed just a bonus.

    I don't feel screwed at all. The game has worked better than I hoped it would so that's a huge plus. Having servers go down is just something you're going to have to deal with. Is this your first MMO? Be thankful that the launch thus far has been as painless as it has. Also as I scrolled down I noticed someone saying they took the servers down in "Prime time"? Seriously, it's the middle of the day, some people work. The servers will be back & you'll all be back in game for many hundreds of hours to come. Stop acting like whiney first worlders with no real hardship in your life. Cheers -MisterToe

    and some people work during evening prime time and late at night but having the server come down at 3:00pm est when kids get out of school and alot of people get out of work is not wise.

    And I'm PST so what's your point? It's never a good time for everyone, the best we can all hope for is that people step back, look at the situation & realise that it's a game. A great game, a fun game, a game I look forward to playing, but still only a game. It's not crisis. Cheers, -MisterToe

    just a bit. I knew my "early access" was hindered because i purchased the game yesterday afternoon. after several hours of downloading the client, i find out the game is offline for maintenance. today i logged in and played for about 1 hour before the servers are taken offline for launch. I kinda feel like I only really played for vanity items as I only got to play early for about 2-3 hrs.

    I preordered for the ability to roll any race on any alliance. I wouldn't preorder just for a headstart. But I did feel it was kind of short. Maybe it's because of the slow leveling.
    Winter-Time
    by Robert Louis Stevenson
    Late lies the wintry sun a-bed,
    A frosty, fiery sleepy-head;
    Blinks but an hour or two; and then,
    A blood-red orange, sets again.

    Before the stars have left the skies,
    At morning in the dark I rise;
    And shivering in my nakedness,
    By the cold candle, bathe and dress.

    Close by the jolly fire I sit
    To warm my frozen bones a bit;
    Or with a reindeer-sled, explore
    The colder countries round the door.

    When to go out, my nurse doth wrap
    Me in my comforter and cap;
    The cold wind burns my face, and blows
    Its frosty pepper up my nose.

    Black are my steps on silver sod;
    Thick blows my frosty breath abroad;
    And tree and house, and hill and lake,
    Are frosted like a wedding cake.

    Now i know new games have some glitches but if you ask me what i got for my extra 20.00 the best would have been the 5 day pre game play which was not even that. It was more like 2.5 days. The server problems, Glitch fixes and Like Right now ITS DOWN AGAIN !!!!. NOT with the extra $ 20.00 who cares about a pet.. who cares about imperial race we want full 5 days Pre access and we get not even close????
    I think these paying people on here deserve something for the 2.5 days missing!!! if you agree Post !

    Akuza
    Sin Vida Founder DAOC Mordred PVP...7 years
    ESO founder...for 2.5 days

    I agree I could care less about the bonus gear and horse and crap i wanted the 5 days its the entire reason for buying early so for people who say its a bonus stop fooling your self take that away and alot of people wouldnt have bought the game till after release

    People do realize if it was preordered from the Zeni store you got 5 day with standard right? So all the people "spending extra" for 5 day access were either didn't read, didn't want digital, or like to spend extra money on something they don't care about.

    What I wonder is how many of these people supposedly paying $20 for 5 day access complain about paying $15 for a month.

    Much like the others not not feeling screwed, I pretty much expected this, especially after being in the beta and having been in the beta for a number of other mmos. The only thing that really caught me off guard was that there was an bug causing people to temporarily swap whole accounts (friend list, guild, bank, character, ect).
    And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

    Honestly the bottom of the line is its 4pm est they took the server down a day early just because its past midnight in some places. they have 2 mega servers covering different areas if one of them is past its midnight bring that one down leave ours up till our game time is over at midnight. I bought my copy early for the 5 days of play time and already got shafted on day one from them not sending the code till late at night and now this so these are the reason i feel screwed i just wanted to know who else agreed so white knights butt out.

    I thought that the start of this game was satisfying. My character ist already level 9, almost level 10. For me that's pretty good because I try to explore everything, I open every little bag, look at every bookshelf etc.
    It drives my fiancé crazy when he sees me playing because I am so slow because of my playing style. I already achieved more than I thought I would after this little time. Even with the bugs and everything.

    And I already made 7 more characters which all have finished the intro. Not bad at all.

    i haven't read the rest of the 8 pages. so this may have been stated already..

    this is nothing to do with 'preparing the servers for launch'.. as so many people bought the imperial edition/early access..there isn't going to be a huge spike in subscriber numbers on the 4/4/14.

    it is just an excuse because they messed something up and are trying to fix the mail bug.. or the issue yesterday where the US server was down.. which they havent really fixed yet.. they are trying to mask that behind 'we are preparing for launch..'

    Considering the servers were always online when I was at home and had time to play, I'd say not at all. It's also pretty naive of you to expect the servers to have 100% uptime on the first week, let alone during early access. The only thing that particularly disappointed me about early access was there were way too many bugged quests even after all of those beta weekends.
  • jonephesb14_ESO
    I don't get my Amazon order because they fubar'd the shipping on my order even though i pre-ordered Jan 30-2014 i will not receive my box till Monday. I wont be able to play after Sunday.

    Can i still buy a Digital IMP edition? I'll just sell the Key that i get in the box.

    This is quite possibly the smoothest MMO launch in history. A bunch of entitled children complaining in the forums is a standard feature of every MMO.

    Eventually you get used to them, like noisy neighbors. You can shout at them all you like, but the only way to get rid of them for good is to wait for them to move out.

    Unless another one moves in to take their place.

    That would be bad. Real bad.

    I don't feel screwed at all. People just like to *** when everything isn't perfect. Get over it.

    Yes and no. I feel like a lot of these issues should be there for beta access. For paid versions when early access is a reward it should work out accordingly. Pay for a product / service, receive what you pay for. That's the system. Players didn't get what they paid for.

    Not at all, this is quite normal for a MMO launch. Be thankful you got the names you wanted.

    Early access is necessary as it gradually introduces new players to the game. Imagine having everyone who bought the game trying to log on at once... anyone that remembers the launch of WoTLK knows that the login servers were not available for most players until 6 or 7 AM in the morning after their midnight launch. The realms continued to be buggy and laggy for another month afterwards.

    If I remember correctly, Rift also had some major flaws on launch (one of them was an account security issue). It is darn near impossible to have a flawless launch, especially when you have a game with millions of lines of code.

    Have some patience and give the folks over at Zenimax a chance to settle on in to their new jobs.

    Just a tip, don't rush through this game like you would for an average MMO, you will be disappointed. TES games are meant to be savored and to take your time with, like a fine cigar or a great cup of coffee.

    We were not screwed, this is the smoothest game launch I have ever experienced. The period of down were nothing unusual and the ESO staff has been great about communicating and trying to fix things fast. This gave us a nice head start so we can avoid the crush in the starting areas when the official release occurs, and it was well worth it.

    Exactly what do they need 3-4 hours to 'prepare for launch'?

    I mean... aren't they already prepared? Or are they basically going to sneak in a patch without telling anyone?

    I hate the lack of communication these companies get away with.

    If the game wasn't so fun, I'd already have my money back and moved on to something else. I just wish I hadn't taken this week off from work, just to waste a couple of days waiting for the servers to come back up.

    This is the biggest issue here it shouldn't be accepted that just because its early access that a game will be buggy beta is used to test these things and open beta is used to stress test for launch so when you do early access that's your first wave of log ins to get the server ready official launch is the remains. As a long time mmorpg player its pathetic how many people are okay with these things.
