This is all very simple from my perspective, I'm not spending another dime on this game until this trash goes away.

Yep. Boycotting the store until the box is gone.

Here, too. Canceled my ESO Plus. Ran out at the beginning of June. Not sure if I will ever re-subscribe because all of this has led me to find other games to play, and I spent the ESO Plus money on something else. Now, all I am doing with ESO is logging in once every 24 hours to get the daily reward. At least until I get the pet.

I remember that as well. I left the game over that. Too bad because I arrived in the game because of Tolkien. I wonder what JRR would think of it. ESO is following the same path and it is making the experience less than perfectly enjoyable.

Yea, I don't even look at the "sales", I instantly click it off. Was that your intention with this? It annoys me so much I don't even bother with the CS since it started. Oh well, thanks Zos for altering my spending habits in Eso, that's funds I'll now use for other games.

This is what happens when the tail wags the dog. I am not one who thinks that Marketing and Game Development should be in an arm-in-arm journey down the path to success. Marketing and monetization should be subservient to the game developers, and the devs should be focused on making the best damn game they can, not on ways to make the best damn monetization interface. Old fashioned, and probably not realistic in today's gaming industry, but that is how you make great games.

This happens because the marketing gurus are salesmen, not gamers. Too many seminars on how to sell ice to the Eskimos has them trying to sell Summerset and Morrowind to somebody who already bought them..... many, many times per play session. But the difference is Eskimos can buy more Ice, and I can't buy what they're trying to sell me duplicate copies of. It makes the sales team look inept and amateurish if they can't even tell what I can and can't buy. Which in turn makes the whole crown store experience unattractive and pushed out of the way as quickly as possible.

The other strike against this marketing directive is that now they are trying to bait people into buying stuff (that they often can't even buy) with free goodies. The strategy is "Let's give these people free stuff that's tied to the gigantic ad so they won't close it as fast! They don't want to look at it, let's put it on top of a tiny reward window, so they can't avoid it." And so now instead of just showing you something, they are forcing you to look at it.... or you won't get your free stuff. Highly manipulative! And the deal with getting free crates and a white wolf mount if you watch their ad on Twitch, more manipulation. My guildies were saying, OMG, just a few more minutes and we can get free crates and mount..... how do I get there what do I do.... and I'm thinking to myself there's no way you're going to get me to do something I don't want to do just to get free stuff. And it made me sad thinking of the Pavlovian response being elicited upon grown, rational people by the lure of free stuff. It just seems dirty to me.

I would not call them salesmen. I don't think they care whether they sell anything. I think that the problem is that too many of the marketing and monetization people are wanna be psychologists, deliberately manipulating people in order to get what they want. Money.

Putting aside the presence of the ad itself for a minute, it seems to have lost its purpose too. It was supposed to highlight the New/Featured stuff in the Crown Store, but right now, the Crown Store (and by extension, the announcement) are still advertising something as "new" that came out almost a month ago. This means that it's got 10 or more pages right now, and nobody's going to bother to go all the way through that.

Return it to its original purpose of only announcing new stuff when it's new (not every day), and return it to it's original size on the side of the screen, and it would be fine. As mentioned before, it doesn't even need to include the Daily Rewards, as they appear in the Notifications anyway.

I read some posts about the reminder of the next daily reward when you log off and the number of people that think it is bad that you have to click on it.
I don't see what the problem is. You have to click to exit the game anyway.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

What happens if we just don't log out and shut down windows? In gamepad mode, you have to load the character screen first. Then you can exit to the login screen. Quit that. Then close the launcher and then shutdown windows. Wtf am I doing all that for? If I push power, windows takes over and shuts down.

I think it is necessary to do at least ALT-F4 so that the save variables get written.

What I don't get is why ZOS is so deathly afraid that someone is not going to get their daily reward. This is pathological fear. We get a reminder when we log in, we get a notification, and most get a reminder when they log out. I am surprised that random NPC conversations don't mention it. They probably would, if they didn't have to hire an actor.

They don't do this for crafting research, or horse riding training. These daily rewards are far less important to the game than either of those things, yet they have invested so much time in making sure we know about it.

Thanks so much for providing your feedback on the new announcement window. It’s worth mentioning this is only partially populated, and once the Daily Login Rewards is activated next week, this will be a place where you can also easily see which rewards are available to claim in addition to what’s currently being displayed. It will also provide some additional real estate to showcase in-game events when they’re active, and featured Crown Store items so you don’t miss out.

That said, we agree that this window is appearing too frequently and are working on making some adjustments. The plan is to have it only display once per account either when we’ve changed the featured products, or when a daily reward is available for you to claim. This work is in progress and will be implemented in a future incremental patch.

So instead of making it full screen, can you at least make it the size of the logout window. I think that would be acceptable.

These commercials really ruin the immersion. Especially since it's per character and it's full screened. I also hate the commercial when you're logging off that you're about to get a reward in x hours. Seriously? I was happy to spend crowns and look through the crown store just fine before. Now I don't know what's new in the crown store and I'm not even excited to play with all these infinite load screens, crashes (pvp, pve & solo instances!) and advertisements everywhere. It's hard to enjoy a game where people are selling you things constantly or kicking you into the character select screen from crashing / infinite loadscreen (which means you get another full screen ad should you attempt to log in again). Maybe the infinite loadscreens mean more advertisements are shown since I log on more, but I'm really getting tired of this. I can see why other people are cancelling their subs.

In the future will there be an option to subscribe to ESO +++++ where you get no more ads or game crashes as you log on??? You know, like the tiers of subscription in Hulu where you can opt to have no advertisements bother you as you play a tv series.

@Colecovision If you don't log out properly using the menu (or the /logout or /quit commands on PC), SavedVariables don't get written properly and your character can remain logged in on the server until the inactivity timer kicks them out.

Zeni - just in case you're watching this to see at what point do we stop complaining and fall in line like your marketing team wants: I'm still very very disgusted with how this was implemented. I still refuse to read these marketing assaults when I log in, and still refuse to buy anything in the crown store, as a direct result of this tactic.

I'm pondering this as well. Are they just hoping the feelings we have about this go away? We were promised something here and I've yet to see it happen. Just in case, I think we need to keep reminding them of their own words at this point. ZOS, don't make promises to us if you do not intend to keep them. There is nothing I despise more than someone making a promise to do something and then not follow through or at least keep me updated on the progress.

As long as ads exist, I will use all possible means to block them. Especially ads that push me to buy something I've already bought. If I want to buy something, I'll seek it out. I don't need to be peddled to.

I already pay $15 a month for the game, and an extra $30 a year for a new "chapter". You get no more.

Thanks for reminding ZOS that they missed an opportunity to mention the Daily Rewards. Now people will be missing them left and right because ZOS never told them.

Also, I am not sure, but I think that ALT-F4 shuts down ESO cleanly, meaning that the SaveVariables files are written. I have done this in cases where the game is in an infinite loading screen and it seems to me that the variables were saved.

@ZOS_GinaBruno and word on when this fix to the market announcement might happen? Because people are still angry, every day, until it does. Or, if the sales data gives your Monetization Designer a reason to believe that it's effective, post that information. The rest of us can then make an informed decision about whether this is a company and community we want to continue to invest in.
