The crown store is not intended to be intrusive. We do not direct the player to it or pop it up in front of you when you run out of potions.
Its just there when you want it.
did he really just say this?!?

It’s worth mentioning this is only partially populated, and once the Daily Login Rewards is activated next week, this will be a place where you can also easily see which rewards are available to claim in addition to what’s currently being displayed. It will also provide some additional real estate to showcase in-game events when they’re active, and featured Crown Store items so you don’t miss out.
That said, we agree that this window is appearing too frequently and are working on making some adjustments. The plan is to have it only display once per account either when we’ve changed the featured products, or when a daily reward is available for you to claim. This work is in progress and will be implemented in a future incremental patch.

It is from the Tamriel Unlimited AUA on Reddit. It isn't new information, it is part of the reassurance they gave those of us who were worried about the encroachment of the Crown Store when it was first released 3 years ago.

Literally, part of his statement still applies. The game does not direct the player to the Crown Store when you run out of potions. The spirit of the statement is dead, buried, and warded against being raised. Now, his team is just pleased when not too many people are driven away by the marketing.

ZOS is a business. They need to make money. One clicky upon login about Crown Store offerings isn't game breaking. Chances are you click about 100x more than this in one Stamblade rotation.
It is not unethical or unheard of for a company to have some self promotion in their content. The amount of complaining in this thread borders on the absurd. Get over it.
They are making money,
Also many of those objecting have the content that is being rammed into our faces, & probably ESO+ as well
The advertising should be being about getting non-players to buy the game etc
not every time I log onto a character, and for some that will be 30 or more changes in 2 short sessions as they do writs & collect the hireling mail, then later collecting the 2nd round of mail.
This is a AAA game not a f2p piece of shovelware but atm it is looking more like that shovelware & the longer it goes on the fewer are going to want to see this or put money into it
The advertising needs to be both external (To attract new players) and internal (To get existing customers to spend more money). That's how any sensible business works.
This is free advertising for them. It makes perfect business sense for them to post up this ad upon login. It makes no difference whether they are an AAA game or a F2P game... They absolutely should be advertising their Crown Store offerings to us.
We do not stand on some incredible high moral high ground that puts us above having to deal with some VERY MINOR advertising. Your fingers will not break from one additional click.

How about we stand on the moral high-ground of expecting ZOS to stick to their previous statements?

They are sticking to their words... it's not intrusive and it doesn't pop in front of you when you run out of potions.
This complaint is just another example of how the outrage generation complains about anything and everything.

I see this just as testing how far they can go. Already there are people who think it’s fine, just another click, no biggie. After some time you get used to it, and then the next round of even more intrusive advertising is introduced.
It always works like that.

I have half a mind to apply for that Monetization position just so I can go in there and slap them silly when someone comes up with an idea that is too crazy.

This new ad ZoS forces down our throat at EACH log in is doing the opposite,
ZoS is losing possible sales as those potintioal customers are just clicking out instead of viewing it.
I know I would use the old ad and maybe see something that is going away and buy it, now, I have no idea as I don't even read it now.
This is just bad "business sense".
It's astonishing how poorly implemented this is. If it at least was a good ad, I could get why ZOS is doing it - but they rolled it out in an almost completely useless state, forcing many of us to block the ad outright. I doubt they'll ever get back most of these customers, if any at all. They might have already fixed it and I wouldn't know.
I understand the complaints, but i think what you guys are missing is that marketing works. And while you may have the expansion, plenty of casuals who dont watch the forums dont but in general marketing is always a good idea.
I get it, its a priciple thing, one in which i would actually agree with in theory.
But, principles dont pay the bills.

We voiced our displeasure about the intrusiveness of the ad when it was on the test server, but they went ahead and implemented it anyway. So basically it was a situation of 'we don't care what you want this what you're getting.' For this reason alone, it's safe to say they aren't listening now, either. Maybe when they see the bottom line drop from so many tuning it out they will revisit it, but don't expect it to be anytime soon.

Worse than did nothing. In typical ZOS fashion they also said nothing. Gina's response in this thread came about 7 weeks after we first commented on it on the PTS.

No but stupidity makes them!
How hard is it for a script kiddie to detect the the character is on Summerset & has ESO+?
Yep even a 2 yr old should be able to manage it, but a marketing guru cant!
How hard is it to realise that you cannot sell a unique item to an owner?
Everybody else but a marketing guru can get the correct answer!
How hard is it to understand that a desensitised customer does not even see the ads
Everyone else but a marketing guru understands that bombardment does not actually work if there is nothing new to buy in that bombardment
But guess what, the marketing gurus still think that it does!
And to be fair to ZOS, they are not the only company that has this issue, it's Marketing that world wide does not understand that all it actually does is PUT THE PRICE UP.
