ZOS the 3 things you really need to do for Housing RIGHT NOW

1. Increase player caps for all 12 player houses to 24. Increase all 6 player houses to 12. You keep saying you hear us on the player cap issue and that you are "looking at" ways to increase it. Yet you keep NOT doing the one thing you COULD do RIGHT NOW within the limits you've set. Don't tell me that Strident Springs, Hundings Palatial and Forsaken Stronghold can really only "hold" 12 players. They are obviously designed to hold more. And those are just off the top of my head.

2. Give us a day/night toggle for our houses so WE can set the time of day. These are private instances that do not affect the rest of the game and you've already said in a livestream that it would be easy to do. That was months ago. Please do it NOW.

3. Make the on/off function of lights accessible to ONLY house owners and Decorators. If it's too much trouble to give the option to Decorators, then just restrict it to the owner ONLY. You KNOW why this is a problem. You've known it since the first week player housing came out. Why haven't you fixed it yet? PLEASE do it now.

These three things would dramatically improve the experience of player housing and would even drive sales of existing houses. Heck I'd buy 4 of the current 12 player ones if they could hold 24 players instead.

If I may weigh in with my opinion...

    1. So you are suggesting that they eliminate some of the lower tier caps and them merge upwards without touching the top cap? I know that housing caps are there for real reasons. I am going to guess that this would not be universally a good thing, so it would definitely have to be house-by-house. That might make things confusing for people.

    2. I don't see that this is something they would spend money on. Really. I am sure it is desired, but I'm not seeing the development value.

    3. Lighting restrictions is something I can get behind, though. This is why I replied. ZOS should do this, even if they do not do the other two.

    1. So you are suggesting that they eliminate some of the lower tier caps and them merge upwards without touching the top cap? I know that housing caps are there for real reasons. I am going to guess that this would not be universally a good thing, so it would definitely have to be house-by-house. That might make things confusing for people.

I suggest this because it would be a major gesture of goodwill on Zeni's part towards the player base. If you acknowledge that 24 is too few... why on earth would you leave the larger player houses at 12??? Remember that when housing was first being done the “largest” homes were called Estates and the houses just below them were called Notable homes. Then, for reasons unknown they just lumped the original "Notable" homes in with the "medium" sized homes and started calling the "Estates" "Notable" homes instead. It would not be all that difficult for them to bump the original "Notable" homes up to 24 players as they were clearly designed to be among the "largest" homes in the first place. I don't think it would be confusing at all and I very much doubt anyone is going to get upset upon discovering their house now holds MORE players than it did before. Further, it would spur new sales among these homes, putting more of our $$ in Zeni's pocket. So it's a win for them both financially and in the positive PR department, which they could surely use.

    2. I don't see that this is something they would spend money on. Really. I am sure it is desired, but I'm not seeing the development value.

Again, this is an easy to implement feature with a high desirability and would spur sales of homes with outdoor spaces. The vampire players alone would go nuts buying houses where they can make it be forever night. It's more money for Zeni, makes housing overall more desirable, and makes it look like they are not only listening but RESPONDING to the players. More money, more positive PR. Another win for Zeni with darn little effort on their part.

    3. Lighting restrictions is something I can get behind, though. This is why I replied. ZOS should do this, even if they do not do the other two.

Yeah this one is literally a no-brainer and the longer they ignore this request the worse they look.

I don’t think they even read these posts though; not to be a naysayer, it’s just I have the same conversation with people or read about it, but ZOS doesn’t respond and they certainly haven’t done anything about it.

It’s a shame considering the costs of housing (any wagers on how astronomical princely dawn light witll be?) And it’s a shame because there are truly talented people who can do some insane and amazing things with housing, but their potential is bottlenecked with the various limitations housing currently has.

For point #2, they already have that. Did you watch the ESO Live stream where they showed off the Summerset houses? They didn't like the lighting, so they typed in a command and made it bright daytime. It's a dev command, available only on their private dev build, but the functionality is there. All they need to do is wrap it up in a friendly, user-accessible toggle and expose that to the players.

what about they allow an option to choose between

    - trophies from dungeons
    - having more pets and mounts in our houses

Not everyone want to put al those trophies, some want more pets, more mounts

Just an idea, but its late here and probably wrongly explained

None of these suggestions seem urgent or necessary compared to:

    - more slots or ability to extend the slots through crowns/vouchers
    - more furnishing designs and diversity
    - more features that can be added to houses, such as wayshrine (especially useful for houses that are far from wayshrines), guild store access, daily crafts boards, NPCs, etc

For me the lights on/off is not an annoyance but quite fun to watch... I have a friend who constantly turns of a random light in my house, as a sign that she visited, so it is fun for me to discover that the skyshard or the sigil altar was turned off

The number of people in the house is important for RP or guilds... so that might be important, but the slots limit is really something that needs to be addressed because it is dumb that small items like one apple or 2 carrots count the same as a huge tree or complex lighting system.

Monsoon?? It's ridiculous, I feel I'm in the midst of Glenumbra....

I think this might be a lot harder for them to do than time of day. This is because they made the bad decision to make weather client side to put less strain on their end of things. They completely ignored that this would result in the bizarre phenomena of 2 characters standing right next to each other... experiencing different weather. This would actually cause them to have to write completely new code and take the added burden onto their servers...which we already suspect are outdated and powered by geriatric hamsters and potatoes. Whereas time of day IS on them so that it remains consistent across the game. They've said it would be easy to implement this feature and even demonstrated it, as another poster here pointed out, as a toggle THEY already have access to. So there is minimal effort required to give it to players as well.

    4 - Increase furnishing limits

Again, it's a given that this is the end goal. They've acknowledged that it's not enough and that they are "looking at" ways to increase those numbers. They absolutely need to follow through and DO SO however. But that's not a quick thing they can just do right this minute like the 3 things I asked for.
5 - Fix the custom name of the house to display on the doors with mouseover !

I'd love that too but I'm not sure how it could be implemented. I think they COULD make it so that when you are outside your Strident Springs and mouse over the door it reads, for you, "Fred's Party Pad," but if only YOU see it, what's the point? OTOH how could they possibly make it so other players can see it when it's the same door to countless player houses?

Sure the night/day toggle is already there as we saw in the Alinor crest townhouse preview!

I bet the weather toggle would be doable exactly the same way, if it doesn't exist as a dev command yet (That would be really really surprising if not).

Of course it would be client-side

A mere scroll menu with 2 features : chose outside daylight, chose weather.
    Sun / Rain / Thunder / Ash-storm / Sand-storm / Snow

I can't wait for "my Serenity Falls" with sandstorm, and "my Tel Galen" with cinderstorm! :)

Once we would have this, players (out-of-character) would just have to agree on the daylight and the weather to set up, when they meet in a given estate, at last.

In fact it would not matter on outside door mouseover : as you noticed it's countless anyway.

I meant for instanced "inside" doors. Just like the actual new "Storage chests" displaying their custom name.

Example (one year ago already) :
About displaying the custom name of the house, before looking towards the loading screen... That may be a bit easier to display there, to begin with :
    wtf_ho10.jpg
    wtf_ho11.jpg

It was so disappointing to see that the custom name field is not even linked to this display haha
    ____

@Rickter Civilian and guard NPCs in the gardens would be nice indeed !

@MornaBaine Maybe the furniture caps of big houses should be extended, or the cap applied inside the house should not be taken into account outside.

I'm sure there is already a field in the code where the mouseover display is set up.
The simple thing to do would be replacing "Use the house default name" by "Use the house custom name" command.

I can see a little glitch when someone would enter an estate that is another player's but the same base house as his/hers. His/her own custom name would be displayed instead of his friend's house name.
But let's be honest this would be very circumstancial.

The whole immersion would be improved anyway.

    Reminding sth...

100% this. The 10/10 "Special Collectibles" category (mounts, pets, & NPCs) is miserable at a cap limit of 10. This limit of 10 needs to be doubled to 20 or tripled to 30 by default, for everyone. And, further doubled to 40 or 60 on top of that if you are an ESO Plus member.

What am I suppose to do with my 11 mounts and 23 non-combat pets in this game? And that's just me.. I hardly have any compared to many other players who have dozens more... I don't have the Merchant or Banker NPCs, but I wouldn't even bother buying them right now as it stands since I don't currently have a spot for them in my 10/10 Special Collectible limit...

Right now, as it stands, my Linchal Grand Manor feels very empty, unlife-like, dull, lonely, and boring.
@ZOS_GinaBruno please pass the word onto the ESO Housing Dev Team/Department to Increase the mount/non-combat pet/special-NPC "Special Collectibles" category, or eliminate this category altogether and include mounts/pets/NPCs as regular furnishing items in the 'overall' cap/limit.
Please increase the "Special Collectibles" category before or at the same time as raising the other categories' base furnishing limits further.

Please, I guarantee you own plenty of houses and dump tons of crowns amd cash into it. Their lack of doing anything to housing will never actually stop you, or many others, from forking over cash.

    To the actual points:
    1. There is little need to boost housing numbers. The only people that have issue with caps are limited numbers of RPers. While I myself am one, Ive never been in, or seens many instances, where the cap was an issue. Nice as it would be to have more, it is an ungodly low priority.

Second on that point, server space is a commodity you rent so to speak. The money you paid is for memory limitations

    2. I cant entirely disagree with this point, but it is not really an important function. Something being easy and being worth time investment is not always the same.

    3. Or just stop having trolls for friends? QoL change for sure, but ive never had friends turn off lights.

The problem with the light trolls is that unless you are there to see them doing it there's no way to know who to block access to. I personally have very few people on my friends list but I am part of two large guilds that I allow to access my house. I once logged in to find every single light in my primary turned off, and I still don't know who did it. The only way to prevent it from happening again is to remove both guilds from my permissions but I like showing off my house too much.

Increasing item slots really needs to happen, though. I know they keep using the excuse that older and/or lower end PCs can't handle it but when the biggest houses have caps that they seem to think those rigs can handle, why can't they increase the limits on the smaller houses? Would an extra 100 slots in the biggest houses really break the game for some people?

They could put assistants and mounts/non-combat pets as seaparate categories so we could have a different number of allocated slots for each, for eg. 3 for the former (or more, depending on whether other types of assistants will be introduced) and 10 for the latter, giving us more room to display our pets and mounts, as they really enliven a house

    1. Far from 'little need'. I myself am a RPer and know /many/ guilds will benefit from said caps increasing. With caps increased players could make their own hubs and avoid that hotmess called Riften. It is a /high/ priority for said guilds. If a poll were made on the eso-rp website I can assure you the numbers would speak for themselves.
    3. Once again, the hub option. Hosting events in player housing is already a thing and has been for quite some time. Of course these events don't have a large amount of attendance. (I wonder why)

I have always found it interesting that the group of players least catered to in ESO are probably the ones spending the most money in the cash shop. It's almost like housing was made just to milk us dry. And yet when we tell them exactly what would make us part with even more of our hard earned money we are continually ignored.
