First a Hacker will succeed no matter what if they want something bad enough they'll keep trying till they get it.

30 days into Rift my account was hacked and I was unable to login sent a PW change to my Email and guess what my Email got hacked by the people who hacked my Rift account and they had all my info and all my friends and family members email accounts.

It really hit the fans when my cousin working in the government got an email for power leveling and cheapest gold using my email account.

It was a mess and took nearly 7 months for my account to get returned to me from Rift, coarse all my characters were deleted and all my gold gone and that took another month for them to restore.

I fully support getting a Security key feature for this game and I vote for number 1.

It was odd I see account names in guild chat and then I get a group invite I see the characters name and then a message Ty you for joining group and helping out, I typed back why exactly did I accept this group invite I'm expecting a guild member invite to do BC, He/she goes oh that's me I'm from your guild in group it displays character in guild account.

Like wow that's really weird to wrap one's head around.

Agree, agree agree, a thousand percent. I usually use my gaming email as my account name (thank god I didn't do that here), but yes, security-wise this just strips away a whole layer of anonymity. Which occasionally may be a good thing, but on the whole, it's not. Solution 1 for me. All the way.

You are never anonymous...

Login names should not be exposed. Using character names makes a lot more sense. It is also less confusing. If I get a guild or friend invite from @joescan32 and I'm expecting it from Gandalfini, I'll probably dismiss it as a spammer.

Having the account name private and character names public is a basic security practice employed by many games. I am aware other games do it wrong as well. That doesn't make it a good practice.

The "security" angle has been beaten to death and discredited... just check your email and stop with trying to use it as a reason.

The problem with this whole idea is the fact that we as a paying customer should have "peace of mind".

Many of us(even if you are not one of them) worry over this kind of info being open to the public. Which in turn detracts from the fun from playing this game when you are always in the background constantly worrying about your account security.

@Vlas, exactly what value do any of your posts add to this thread?
• Vlas

Hmmm, then you have some serious issues to work out, as I am an IT professional and I know that the account name is not the problem as people who get phished will still get phished and things like brute force attacks to attempt a guess at your pwd will take forever because they have cool downs, and they also have the IP restrictions.

So... I guess just keep being paranoid, because anything anyone says will not dissuade you from your issues except you.

Well, if you dont read my posts I guess nothing. Otherwise, they discredit and remove the value of the theories placed before us making the original reasons and excuses null and void.

So... I guess a lot of value, unless you disagree and only want to look at it from an "Im always right" point of view. In which case, you still lost.

Go ahead, refute me.

Ill wait.

@Vlas, I've been in IT for over 25 years in the largest companies in the world. I've run some of the largest IT shops. I would not hire you. Drop the idiocy about paranoia, etc. We are talking best practice and also about the confusion the login name versus the character name causes.

I wouldn't waste my time even replying to a troll but hey, the game is down. I'm sure you think that's good too. It gives you time to troll.

God yes. I hated officer noting everyones alts...

There arent any notes yet for guilds :(
Ooh yes there is, I use them to note whom is in officer training and whom isn't.

At first I would be In total agreement with removing, but I just created a new account in beta using my most common in game name, as did most. It has its positives and negatives but if you adapt to it its fine :)

Great, so you should know that this isnt an issue.

Just because you disagree with me doesnt mean Im "trolling" you, unless in your 25 years of being an IT professional, you somehow adopted the theory that trolling = disagreements, in which case... who is the one with serious competency issues?

Ooohh, you mean you are trolling me. Cool... cool. It still devalues your position.

Again, I don't know how many times we went over this in beta.

The simple way this should work is and still will be after we debate this for the next month, your USERID should of been something that you assigned to your account upon creation and your Login should of stayed unknown to the public.

So, you would of had your USERID displayed for the forums and ingame and your Login stays a mystery.

Example, if I wanted @Wreaken to be my USERID, that is what I choose to be displayed. Blizzard uses a similar system with their Battle tag system and so does Perfect Worldz.

My Login details should not ever be displayed, I don't care how good you say your security protocols are.

can we have one character name per account, having 8 names for 8 different characters when you can only play one at a time......

seconded and thirded.. what a *** lazy way to implement the system bc the devs were too stupid to think of another way to handle multiple guilds. Instead.. they broadcast everyone's log in ID as well as their personal info.

Add the fact that there are no player name plates.. i cant recognize ANYguildmates or ANYONE for that matter in game. Its like mindless no-name people running around me. Nothing matches with TS.. and YOUR IN GAME NAME THAT YOU CHOSE MEANS NOTHING. You wanted to make a game thats immersive, and you completely negated our CHOSEN NAMES? are you people working there at ZOS. THAT stupid? I CANT BELIEVE it.

Side Note: Post ETA's on downtimes PRIOR to the downtime.. especially on planned maintenances. There should be no reason you cant post an ETA after 4 hours of downtime...get with the program....

I had the whole guild change their phonetic to their USERID's in Mumble, it is quite funny.

We all refer to people as @<insertname>

Guild Leaders worth their coin are not so easily confused. Most MMOs in the past just display your currently logged in character name in guild rosters and chat and it is a completely acceptable system.

Agree. This is ***. Exposing everyone user account name just like that. ESO is a paradise for hackers.

And also very confusing and immersive breaking for us.

The forum design is also one of the worst i have ever seen.
