I usually use my gaming email as my account name (thank god I didn't do that here), but yes, security-wise this just strips away a whole layer of anonymity. Which occasionally may be a good thing, but on the whole, it's not. Solution 1 for me. All the way.
Login names should not be exposed. Using character names makes a lot more sense. It is also less confusing. If I get a guild or friend invite from @joescan32 and I'm expecting it from Gandalfini, I'll probably dismiss it as a spammer.
Having the account name private and character names public is a basic security practice employed by many games. I am aware other games do it wrong as well. That doesn't make it a good practice.
The "security" angle has been beaten to death and discredited... just check your email and stop with trying to use it as a reason.
@Vlas, exactly what value do any of your posts add to this thread?
Ooh yes there is, I use them to note whom is in officer training and whom isn't.

@Vlas, I've been in IT for over 25 years in the largest companies in the world. I've run some of the largest IT shops.

Add the fact that there are no player name plates.. i cant recognize ANYguildmates or ANYONE for that matter in game. Its like mindless no-name people running around me. Nothing matches with TS.. and YOUR IN GAME NAME THAT YOU CHOSE MEANS NOTHING. You wanted to make a game thats immersive, and you completely negated our CHOSEN NAMES? are you people working there at ZOS. THAT stupid? I CANT BELIEVE it.
Side Note: Post ETA's on downtimes PRIOR to the downtime.. especially on planned maintenances. There should be no reason you cant post an ETA after 4 hours of downtime...get with the program....
Guild Leaders worth their coin are not so easily confused. Most MMOs in the past just display your currently logged in character name in guild rosters and chat and it is a completely acceptable system.Except that when you are in a guild, you are in a guild for all characters... so it is logical to have one single name for it. Thus the account name.
Think it through man... how else will you remove confusion of the guild leaders.
