Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

I feel like Argonian's are undervalued in cut scenes and as a whole.

Would love there to be more Argonians. They (and the Khajiit) are the reason I play ESO. I like their lore & their characters - and they make ESO much more interesting than those (to quote C.S. Lewis) '[snip] elves'. I mean, I absolutely loathe detest & abhor Bosmer. Really do. (Not overly keen on Dunmer either.) But do I get bothered by the frankly ridiculous threads about how cute the Bosmer are? No. I just ignore them and their fawning comments over a psychotic cannibalistic midget race that for some reason talks in appalingly bad cockney accents.....and carry on playing my Betmer. ;)

As to the 'racism' of people's comments about them being good suitcases or boots (or rugs)? Get a grip. This is a game.

I don't know what you're talking about. I bought my wife a lovely Argonian purse the other day and she uses it all the time.

Good, and i hope we see more of it.

That's really messed up. You probably think being racist against fictional species is okay but it actually reveals a lot psychologically. It also speaks miles about a person's character.

No, it actually doesn't in the real world. Learn what racism really is. It's laughable to think that people are being racist about a fictional race in a video game.

It says nothing. This isn't real racism. There are no Argonians on the corner begging for change. You won't find a bosmer at the store who's been displaced because of economic policies and can't find work that will keep them afloat through a crisis. No one's getting stopped and frisked for driving while Khajiit.

    This isn't real racism.

ESO uses fantasy racism to talk about the real thing, and there's some legitimate discussions on the subject scattered through the many quests. But, while things like the Dunmer's treatment of the Argonians may be allegory, it's not actual racism.

So, maybe, take a look at what the game is saying about racism, and realize that a lot of the specific jokes that are aimed at the races, maybe, aren't quite the same thing.

    Or, you know:

They didn't have cockney accents in previous games. They sounded more whiney before, and perhaps a little bit stereotypical 'American-nerdy' would be the best way I'd describe how their accent use to sound. I personally see the Bosmer as equally cursed as the Dunmer or Orsimer. That Green Pact is one hell of a doozy to get foisted on you just because your ancestors made some awful deal with some old trees.

Interesting, I just got to really appreciate Argonians since I started playing this game, even though I know the elder scrolls franchise since Morrowind.

I wanted to create a character that resembles one I played in another game and it was most fitting with this race. And yes, they are the most funny in terms of voice for example, also quite in terms of their culture/way of living.

Honestly Argonians in ESO are pretty comical and well a bit silly..

Kinda like the Hobbits of ESO no one takes them seriously..

Yes, and we all know, who carried the ring. :sunglasses:

Losing a hobbit to the ring was far less dangerous than anyone else..

    Exactly, they were far underestimated.

The movies didn't touch on it much. But hobbits, in the books, were absolutely the most sneaky race. Easily evade detection, extremely quiet, that's why Bilbo was the "master thief" hobbits inherently made wonderful thieves.

Iirc in the book, this plays a huge role in getting the trolls to argue and to evade the hearing of Smog

Also they were more resistant to the rings influence.. Thats the main reason.

Looking at most of the Elder Scrolls Online cut scenes and the cinematic's from past games we see a lack of Argonian's and when we do, we see them doing menial tasks. For example in the Three Fates Cinematic Trailer they aren't doing anything but pulling a cart like slaves:

    https://youtu.be/uuHWWC9xxmk?t=14m16s

Not to mention the Argonian's never really get a "hero" to fight with the other heroes in any of the ESO cinematics. We have the elf girl with awesome magic, the Nord warrior, and that nightblade daggerfall guy. Why don't the Argonian's have a more pivotal role and some actual dialog apart from yelling battle cries before charging into the enemy at the front like cannon fodder for the Ebonheart Pact. That or being cart slaves.

Nobody ever dreams of being a heroic lizard guy. Nobody. Show me the person that claims that they do have that dream and I will show you a liar.

The only Argonian in this game I enjoy working for and talking to is Captain One-Eye of Alten Corimont in Shadowfen (I look forward to this quest each time I do it).

I often return to this place just to sit back, relax, and enjoy the quaint view. Something about this place just feels like home.

Most of the other Argonians would be appreciated, I'm sure, but I can absolutely promise the one I started having a conversation with in Auridon is still trying to finish their sentence.

Not really. It is a fact that Nobody likes looking like an Argonian. Which is why the devs gave them the best passives in the game. Otherwise, there would be next to nobody playing them.

All the Argonian hate seems more like a PC thing to me. Argonians and the Mazzatun armor style seems very popular on Xbox One at least. Argonians are my favorite race and the Dunmer ironically are a close second. If people wanna waste their lives typing up how Argonians are handbags on almost any forum post concerning the race (Everyone knows who the major anti Argonian RPers are), then so be it. It's honestly such a waste of time in my point of view, but if it keeps them content in their lives I really couldn't care less. I just hope this hate doesn't cause Devs to go along with it. Such hate is of a loud minority, so it would be disheartening if content for Argonians suffered further because of the bashing. I'd like a fully fledged Murkmire that wasn't chopped in half simply because the elf fans made too many handbag jokes. To be honest, I think most hate comes from the flu and the 4E devolution of Dunmeri civilization as the Argonians uplifted themselves. At the end of the day these are fictional races, but I don't want such sentiments to cause devs to neglect the race. For one example, human bias is really shown by the devs with the Doyen tiara, considering the fact that the human/elf version looks better than the Argonian version.

Some were former slaves but not all of them. You should go read up on Keshu the Blackfin. It's datamined Murkmire lore and her involvement in the EP was heavy. She was a close friend to King Jorunn. She grew up in Murkmire, where there's not much slaving going on because the Dunmer don't go that far.
