This is an aspect of the game's combat design and cannot be modified through addons. The choice to limit players to five abilities and an ultimate per weapon ( 10 abilities, 2 ultimates total ) is part of the class and combat progression of the game. Not a lacking UI.

Yeah, they need to have separate slots for consumables. Its hard to go into your inventory and look for a consumable while you are in combat.

You can use the quickslot to use consumables. It's really not as difficult as you all make it out to be. Is it perfect? No. Is it easy to get used to and adapt to? Yes. Also, there's no way to add additional slots.

I have to say that this is very disappointing. There are so many skills that have to be activated. There's nothing strategic about picking 5 skills when the specific class trees have double that for one weapon type. I don't want a clone of another MMO with 500 slots but 10 available at one time would be more than enough. This game is awesome but this feels way too restrictive for a PC MMO. However thank you all for the quick responses.

I like the strategy of 5 slots as far as planning and whatnot.

Consumables should have a separate quick slot bar for PC/MAC. Each fight/encounter may require a different potion - the current method of updating the Q slot is not conducive to fast paced combat, particularly when you need something and you need it now (CD's not withstanding).

More slots are not need in my opinion, but I would like to see something more a long the lines of swapping action bars. Not in combat but have it available prior to an encounter to swap to abilities that would better suit my needs for the fight. Along the lines of how WildStar does it.

I believe that this was made this way as the game is going to be console and pc. It seems after playing some that it could give the advantage to console players.

I agree with imjanko, the current system for selecting potions during battle is clumsy at best. Keep it if they want, some people may like it but I think each item needs a specific key/mouse binding.

Having only 2x(5+1) action keys. See it as a challenge, not a problem.
And for the potion selection: it s clearly a console controller design, for keyboards it should definitely be changed to a number of bindable keys.

Nice thank you for the link, I really want to see this as part of the engine though not via an addon. Addons breaking after game updates and/ or because the original programmer is no longer playing the game the game gets annoying. Not saying I'm not going to try it out though because I definitely will, so again thanks for the link.

There is an add on that allows swapping skill bars and even outfits with weapons.

Awesome opossum @Pawkette‌! I couldn't have said it better myself.

As far as the quick bar is concerned, it's really not designed as a game for players to utilize more then a single potion type per combat that you set up before hand. While it is possible to do so, it also means you far less in the world dealing with what's happening to you. But I think that's part of the design philosophy of trying to keep things as simple as possible for every kind of player.

I've heard time and again, over and over, how players feel that they are forced to constantly do this or that in order to get to play in a way that is closer to what other MMO's offer. And to all of them I say stop trying to make this into one of those other mmos and take the game play as it's designed. See what you can do within the confines of the system instead of trying to bypass the design. It really is a whole lot of fun if you give it a chance.

Part of the problem I can see with putting additional keybinds for the different quick slot items is that this game is designed to have certain keyspace available at all times. If I have a magicka pot assigned to 0 that would mean I'd have to either leave contact with wasd or release the mouse to reach it. Returning to base could be error prone and time consuming, or mean that the player would have to take their eyes off the action on the screen. As it is intended for everyone to get a fair shake in the game, a standard non gaming mouse simply doesn't offer the functionality that other players would then have afforded to them via their hardware choices(this applies to gaming keyboards as well). So from the perspective of equalizing the game to the level of base PC equipment functionality this feels like the right choice.

Whether that is true or not remains to be revealed by the devs. Either way, if that's what keeps the combat fast-paced, then bring it on.

If you are looking for extra quickslots - try looking into Wykkyd's Framework and other mods. One of them allows you to have 12 more quickslots that can be macroed. I haven't used them myself, but that might be a good place to start.
