Strife Nerf

Getting a head start on this. Strife is having it's cost increased to the same as Force Pulse. That literally means that Concealed Weapon costs less and does more damage which everyone hates that skill. one of the special things about strife is that is doesn't cost a lot. That was a core part of the identity. Gilliamtherogue suggested a 200-300 cost increase which I personally can agree with. The change in it's current state (As far as we know as it hasn't been released on PTS yet) is pretty stupid and nonsensical as Force Pulse already costs to much to be a spammable as it is.

A melee spammable with same counters should cost less and hit harder. Risk=Reward

Which is where the uniqueness of the skill comes into questions. That was literally the point of strife

Running it on my magblade, I think I always felt like it would happen eventually. When you look at concealed weapon, it was often a question of "why bother?" when strife was there. Force Pulse is the ranged spammable for most classes so it makes sense. It still hives a nice HOT. Although; force pulse is not reflectable and that reflect part is a huge downside of strife.

Again you basically destroy the uniqueness of the skill. I use Con Weap. when I play as a Melee magblade becuase it does more damage despite the cost. if it does more damage it should cost more. Force pulse does more damage than strife and yet they will now cost the same

Hmm My swallow soul comes out slightly higher on tooltip. Status effect chances are then not there and nor is the 10% penetration, but I also get vitality and heals. I mean; I'd still chose strife over force pulse. But I'd consider pulse for how much better it weaves.

It is just a fact that Force Pulse does more damage. Tool tip values are messed up because Force Pulse counts are 3 separate attacks

Sustain is what made the magicka nightblade what it is. It is part of their identity. Changing that drastically effects it. Especially because they buffed the DKs sustain

It does just not magic. It cost more awareness and positioning. Especially in Pvp.

I hope they give NB a little bit more of something in terms or like... buffing. Some of the things I thought were nice, like the Ult changes, I feel like NB is already under performing in terms of damage (I don't play a DPS NB but it still kinda bugs me) meanwhile sorc is getting mainly buffs, like lightning flood being buffed for damage and such. And that's not sorc bashing I just feel like they already do so much more damage anyway so I find it kind of odd, If anyone has a source though that says NB is getting any sort of buff damage wise and not just nerfs to it I'd like a link to it. I don't feel like I wont be able to play NB or anything but i feel like with the buffs other classes are getting in comparison NB will be definitely under performing? but I might be wrong and it does depend on play style still I suppose.

Sounds like they want Strife to be the ranged option and Concealed Weapon to be used when closer. Is there really room on a Mag NBs skill bar for that though?

Yeah I mean the fact that most vDSA groups are 3 mNB DPS and a Tank cross healing each other with Funnel Health should give you a sense of how strong that ability is. If you think Funnel is only a strong ability because it's cheaper than Force Pulse then just lol

Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

DK IS NOT JUST A TANK CLASS. #PLAYTHEWAYYOUWANT

I can think of 4 other classes who wish they had both class-based melee and ranged spammables available in their toolkit. That's really not a bad problem to have.

Strife was already nerfed twice in the past and no where at anytime had I seen a nerf strife thread since . Was not aware it needed anything changed further . If Gillian was being killed by strife then I'd even tell him to L2P because damn . That's funny .

Lol this is the nerf mNB needs to bring the class in line with the other classes. Well ZOS balances by nerfing and if you expected anything else you have been playing the wrong game.

Right now mNBs are way overpowered in PVE compared to other classes and unless something like this happens other magika classes will always play second fiddle to them.
I play how I want to.

None of your points make sense. You are only annoyed they parse better than you. DK gets a sustain buff and mNB (not stam) gets a nerf... Something doesn't seem right here. I want DK to get that sustain change. But strife shouldn't cost as much as force pulse because it doesn't do as much. No extra damage, no status effects, no extra chance to proc things, no interrupt (morph dependent), no on kill resources, does not grant same passives for being slotted (which are better than strife), and finally strife is hard to weave with unlike force pulse.

I can do that on a templar with BoL and ritual. Nothing too special aside from sustain difference. Plz ignore the forum knight. He got his sustain buff already. Onto the issue at hand

Oh I wasn’t saying it was a problem. I’m legitimately asking the question lol. I’ve played Mag NB and hit the super high target dummy numbers before but I don’t know the class inside out in terms of PvE. I main Mag Sorc/Mag Warden.

Lol I have been running a mNB dps since HotR as my primary PVE DD. Strife is indeed overpowered especially in top tier end game PVE. The heal aspect of strife alone outperforms all the benefits FP would give. I will probably still run it over FP in a raid. Top tier teams running vAS+2 have more than 40% of the raid's healing done my magblades.

Weaving with strife is just a L2P issue.

Trust me if that heal would worth it people who still played mNB back in Homestead would have picked over that Force Pulse, strife is nowhere near overpowered

It looks like the discussion here is divided along PvE vs PvP lines.
This nerf looks aimed at end-game PvE.

As players we have to assume the devs are pros trying to do the right thing.
But if decisions to nerf are being made mostly on aggregate ability use referenced against outcomes that might explain why class balance is still so elusive. I suggest changes to core class abilities need to be made in smaller steps so that classes don't go from hero to zero, or zero to hero all the time...

I agree the nerf seems pretty huge. Would rather see no magblade PvE nerfs and buffs to other classes instead (I've mag dk is pretty strong with the changes for dps). Buffing one thing while nerfing another thing at the same time was never a good idea.
I used to think that PvP was a tragedy, but now I realize, it's a comedy.

agree a 100% I'm mostly happy about the changes except this one, I'll adapt if it will be in the final natch potes but still after Homestead it was so good to use a class based spammable again as a dd and wish it would stay that way, but I know that Zos has gone back on things in the past like aoe caps now, curse in homestead, siphoning strikes in morro (its still not that good but better then it was in the first Morro natch potes)
I hope they listen to us and to Gilliam suggestion!

Strife was imbalanced in terms of cost/damage ratio. So it needed adjustment in one or the other way. Putting it as high as force pulse is the wrong way in my opinion, i wouldve lowered the others instead to match the cost of strife.

Concealed weapon costing less and dealing more damage makes sense because it's melee range and doesn't have the added benefit of healing you. Strife is a main attack on Magblade while also providing a lot of healing. Something has to be increased on Magblade and Magsorc both to make infinite sustain shield stacking more difficult.

Actually, if you did a selfbuff 6m dummy test on live server with a magblade using FP as spammable, you will find your sustain is totally fine. It's like just about to run out magicka when the dummy die. This is a totally fine result as for me, because in trial there's always has haeler's worm cult and orbs.

After the changes seems using Asylum des staff will more resonable than before since strife no longer has cheaper advantage, but staff count as two pieces will open up so many other possibilities, so, who knows.

Raise the cost as force pluse not the end of the world, the problem is just to find the next meta in those much of possibilities.
