    Lesson learned?

I'm completely dumbfounded how anyone puts stock in this blatant cash grab on expectations the odds are in favor of [item/trinket/mount] received.

Think of it this way: the odds of getting struck by lightning are [number] to 1.

Any person who buys these items should remember their "1" is not a guarantee lightning will strike.

Indeed, the only winner is ZoS who took advantage of someone who decided to emphasize the definition of "disposable" income.

I'm sorry, but I feel nothing to those who pay to lose.

LOL I'm not looking for your sympathy or anything remotely similar. I was merely having a moan about the odds or something. I thought everyone had left this thread a long time ago.

48 crates, 0 mounts. I mean not even a lower tier mount or even a pet. Worst luck of crates I've had yet any season. Ended up with 2600 gems total to spare from this and previous seasons so I just bought the wolf and zombie skin. This season is underwhelming anyways.

Season is undewhelming but you bought 48 crates anyway? This is why I get annoyed when people talk like crates hurt ZOS' revenue.

If they hurt their revenue they wouldn't be using them. ZOS' marketing department isn't stupid, they're very good at what they do. We just don't happen to agree with how they do it.

The business must be super profitable if the crates continue despite the game base hating it. Then again, I am not sure how exactly representative of the "player base" are the people participating on these forums.
ZOS holds the statistics... so they know.

Then again, logic dictates that if the ZOS marketing "wizards" made the chance to obtain apex or radiant mounts drop higher, people would get even more crates. For now, especially those so called radiant mounts are more of a myth to me than reality.

Then again, imagine the alternative world in which the chance to obtain those mounts is 50% or higher. It would be somewhat grotesque seeing everyone in Tamriel riding on those radiant mounts.

Ideally, ideally... if we could design, or at least, dye our mounts...ahh , I know, it's just a dream.. but oh well

It would be nice if the system would lower the chances of getting duplicates on pets, mounts, etc while increasing the chances of receiving items they haven't already won. It would still be rewarding for the player and ZOS who choose to purchase more crates. People who are reluctant to buy crates might be more willing to do so, the people with a gambling addiction or whatever might not end up way overspending on a bunch of pixels, and ZOS can still please their investor overlords. It's a win all around.

I mean, it would be cool if ZOS didn't have RNG loot crates... but then how would they make money off of people with gambling addictions and *** off gamers who like cool stuff and would pay to buy it if it weren't unlikely as hell to get in the first place.

Sidenote: I'm pretty sure those people who get those super rare mounts that you can't buy with crown gems exist purely to spite completionists like me (I had every single DLC item in the game up until loot crates. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE).

Crown Crates are like any form of gambling “sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you”. If people want to take a chance on a rare mount then that is their prerogative. As to whether I am for or against crown crates, I think I lean more towards being against them for the following reason:
One of the great things about this game is that you meet people from all walks of life: from different countries, different cultures, different viewpoints and quite frankly different financial circumstances. Some of those I play with are people that are dedicated to this game. They put a lot of time and effort into ESO, pay a monthly subscription but they can’t afford to spend additional money on crates. I think the trend of reserving some of the coolest cosmetics in the game: mounts, houses, skins, emotes, mementos etc. for those who can afford to spend the money required to obtain them is unfair to these members of the ESO community. I appreciate that everyone gets the chance of 3 free crates every few months but that doesn’t stop the fact that players are being split into those that can afford to buy the cool looking things and those that can’t. While it isn’t “pay to win” it is definitely “pay to look good”. Personally, I think that everything on the crown store should have some form of access in game whether through gold, writs vouchers, telvar, AP etc, so that all members of the community have a fair opportunity to obtain them even if it takes a lot of time and effort.
I also have a gripe when you are actually lucky enough to get an apex mount but you already have it. You get 33 gems??? Why not just give the cost to buy a different mount which is 400 gems.
Ultimately, I spent some of my cash on crown crates but I also spent some on women and alcohol, the rest of my cash I spent foolishly.

I *** and moan about the crates a lot - Disgusting business practise, yet I still buy them with the 1500 crowns a month we get from subbing - The dirty hypocrite I am. My protest is I won't buy any crowns anymore regardless of sales or not. 1500 is sufficient if i'm going to sink them into crates.

I've had 2 apex mounts total from all the seasons, Zombie Guar, and Scalecaller Guar. I *** hate Guars.

I probably won't buy anymore crates this season. I wanted the masks but 100 crown gems is too much. Will save up the 1500 a month till the Psijic crates come out.

I hate these crates, would rather just buy the stuff outright.

The RNG is an evil sadist, that's what's up with it. I did 10 myself and got crap, while a friend opened 2 next to me and got a motif. RNG thinks the tears of the unlucky are delicious. Someday someone will develop the technology to force the RNG into a corporeal form and then we the unlucky can grab baseball bats and show the RNG what it feels like to roll nothing but lowballs!

My biggest issue with all this is the lasting progression in this game. What will keep you here indefinitely is tied to irl cash.

If you are a hit n run player, you buy the chaorer. Maybe a few dlc. Play the 30-40 hours of content and come back later, this is no oroblem for you.

If this is your "main" game, true progression is this seasons mounts or new furnishings or master writs. All these things are directly tied to making you spend money to experience it "fully".

This is not pay to win, its pay to play.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

This is the best response to anything I've read on the forums. Ever. Thank you :)
