Which gender do you choose to play in-game and why?

    I'm a woman in real life and chose "both".

    My first - and main - character in any game that allows me to choose is female because that's the character I try and model after myself, making the choices I would, essentially as much of a self-insert as I can within reason. A power fantasy, if you will. Khajiit is also my favorite race in Elder Scrolls games, so my first is a female Khajiit Nightblade stamtank.

    I have one other female character I made that I haven't really played much and honestly might replace with something different. All my other alts are male - another Khajiit, an Argonian, and an Altmer. Might make a Dunmer one day, too, and probably male again. Not sure why I gravitate towards males for the other runs. I just get a character idea in my head to RP and choose whatever class and gender feels like "them".

    I also play in first person, so none of my decisions are ever about what butt I'll be seeing on the screen. LOL That always seems like an odd reason to me regardless of the gender of the player. For the guys who say "I'd rather stare at a lady's butt", does this mean you can't get into other games that have a forced male protagonist because "oh noes, dude butt"? Just seems odd.

    Same reason why automated machines use a female voice. I'm alot less likely to be iritated. As well, If I'm going to stare at a pixelated rear end for a bit, I might as well enjoy it.

    Almost all of my characters in this game are female, because I am one. I identify more with my female characters for certain.

    But I usually keep one or two male toons around to dress up and use when I’m in the mood to play from a different perspective. Of my many Skyrim characters, about half were female and half were male. I always chose male followers.

    I find that gender is just another aesthetic. Some classes or races look better as one gender, or at least just different. I dont find one gender to look overall better than the other.

    Why are you staring at your character's backside instead of the whole rest of the game?

    Why would I have bought all these costumes & motifs (and spent all that time in the character creator), if I wasn't going to look at my character (at least part of the time) ;)

    I play females....I can't play males. I find myself feeling bored. I couldn't play Witcher for this reason. I guess I project myself partially onto my character, and although I was a bit of a tomboy as a child, I grew up to be feminine and that's how I like my characters to be: powerful, but strong in their feminine energy.

    What?

    I would assume that it's the gameplay that bores someone, the gender of the character should just be a preference.

    [Snip].

    But even if i did a female character, i would never consider the gameplay boring, because of it, the gameplay has nothing to do if you play as a male or a female.

    Oh, and i also prefer the look males have when wearing armor.

    Oh, and you are missing out by not playing the witcher 3, awesome game.

    [Edited to remove baiting]

    I'm not here to debate how I feel. What I choose to play, and what I choose not to play is entirely my choice.

    Both but mostly male( i am male). It started in a game called shadowbane in which my favorite solo class could only be female. Didn't like it at first. But she grew on me after awhile.

    Ever since some characters i create are male and some are female. The males usually get the brutish tanky in your face brawler roles, while females usually get the more graceful roles that, to me, have more finesse to them.

    melee= usually male
    ranged physical = usually female
    melee rogue = usually male
    mage/magic = more 50/50
    Healer = usually female.

    Im trying to diversify and be less sexist though when it comes to roles.

    Every time I try to make a male toon they end up super bulky and I hate it. Female models can be muscled but lithe, meanwhile the best we can get to lithe on male toons is full Thin and the proportions are all weird.

    Yeah I'm shaming the beefcake or bust male game models and they deserve it. Give me the gymnast body types on more than elves.

    I play mostly female characters, but I have a couple of males as well - with them I prefer a more mature, older look to them, whereas my female characters are somewhat younger, but as well not too young.

    Edit: Actually the character creator allows to create some quite awesome male characters, and I didn't want to miss out here.
