When/if they ever add this to the game, I wonder what effect spell crafting will have on class identity. It's quite easy to create an effective build using very few of your class skills. Introduce spell crafting and I anticipate a lot of new effective builds that don't use a single skill from their selected class. Only significance class will have at that point is the passives it provides.

Well, what else?
New class? Nope.
New weapons? Well, maybe. Don't think so.
New skill lines? What kind of?
Spellcrafting has been a thing since 2014. They started working on it and had great concepts for it until they put it on the back burner. Spellcrafting could be a balancing nightmare but it would add A LOT of depth to the game.

Honestly, I think it makes sense for them to have waited as long as they did. Once they realized the whole Daedric War storyline, they were probably like "you know what we should add to Summerset [where magic is plentiful]? Spellcrafting" and that's why we're finding this in the datamine.
(I'm trying to prepare myself in case we don't get spellcrafting, but with all that I've read about Summerset from the datamine, it basically seems to suggest us getting it.)

It would fit into the setting, yes.
The question is: will be the Spellcrafting ruins only be at Summerset or will they be all around the world? I really hope they're going to implement those secret places EVERYWHERE without marking them. That would be huge for exploration and immersion.
If this is ever implemented it's not going to be anything like what you folks are hoping it to be. You're not going to be able to create some op skill. They'd be better off just adding new skills because that's all it'd be in the end.

Now getting hand on some old installs had been nice, either from computers not used much for ESO or from some backup or previous versions.SilverIce58 wrote: »(I'm trying to prepare myself in case we don't get spellcrafting, but with all that I've read about Summerset from the datamine, it basically seems to suggest us getting it.)
@SilverIce58
A lot of folks seem to be missing the fact that UESP wasn't able to positively identify when the spellcrafting data was added to the client, and that it's been in since at least Clockwork City. One user on Reddit claims that this data has been in the client since Morrowind.
I absolutely want spellcrafting, too, and I'm hoping we're getting it, but not getting your hopes up seems prudent to me.
True. Then again, I suspect we'll know for sure soon enough.Now getting hand on some old installs had been nice, either from computers not used much for ESO or from some backup or previous versions.
This is certainly true at endgame. But I'll continue to build my characters based on each individual's theme and aesthetics, and I'm sure others will, too. For us, this system will (hopefully) be a huge win.SmellyUnlimited wrote: »Like everything else, the meta will “spell” out the absolute best combinations of spells, and then everyone will just adopt those.
It won’t be very unique; like now, everyone will just have cookie cutter builds of each other.
