It has been said hundred and hundreds of times before. Many people on the forums are strongly in favour of the idea and the theory-crafting options would be amazing. Like all cool ideas there are people who don't want it added.
For context, I believe that dual wield and 1 hand and shield were given the extra weapon set slot because they are in melee range and more at risk than characters that stand back and cast. Two-hander is the exception, but it's skills used to be the easiest source of healing and stamina damage shields. If 1 handed wands only worked at melee range then only templar and dks would use them, if they work at normal range or without some penalty then I wonder if anyone would ever run 2handed staves if the 1 handed wands were available.
At the moment magicka builds and stamina builds are not well balanced, so magicka do not need the huge buff of a 2-5-5 set-up with sustain.

Skyrim let us dual wield staffs. It looked completely ridiculous, but it worked. Either that, or ZOS needs to finally let us one-hand and spell like a proper Spellsword.

Yes, Wizards use Staves but what about Witches!?
I Very Highly doubt that Harry Potter was the first Fantasy Franchise to create the idea of Wands in fact it is a common concept in Most Tolkien-esque themed Fantasy games, realms and stories...
But since you brought it up...
