Well the way I look at it, I'm glad we are getting it with the caveat that they don't frell us over making it some crazy amount of crowns. If they do that, they can *** in a pot and hope for my money. I feel these costumes should not cost more than the average costume in the store. Now whether or not they decide to make it more or far more than that remains to be seen. Considering you need one for every toon, I am bracing for impact. Hopefully their gamble lottery crates and 15k crown cribs will offset their need for greed on this front. They could have really stuck it to us with transmutes and that turned out to be pretty reasonable. I mean I would love if it were less than 50 crystals but still it's not really hard to get them if you play a fair amount of content. So I think they might be reasonable with this. I mean, I get they need to make money and so far they seem to be more reasonable after the fiasco that was morrowind which did not do all that well. Perhaps the divines have shined a ray of reality light upon them and knocked some clarity into their greedy delusional brains.

Overall I think this is a great start. I would love to see the system expanded beyond just motifs, more like the LOTRO system where you can add any equippable piece of armor or clothing to an outfit (and then dye it).

My favorite set in that game, for instance, came from a very difficult raid. I was able to turn that whole set into an outfit and keep wearing it long after I outleveled the gear.

But again, this is a really good start and they hinted that more options may come.

So what exactly are you mad about? The outfit system isn't too far a cry from transmogging. Its not what I expected but I'm happy with it.

Yes it is. Build-a-costume and restyling individual pieces of gear are vastly different implementations.

But it’s exactly the same effect.

No it's not. When I take off my Ebon armor and put on my Hundings, I'll still be wearing the same custom costume. I was looking forward to being able to transmog my armor, not cover it up with a single custom costume.

It's pretty clear that this design decision was driven by how they want to monetize it. Kind of sucks that such a long-awaited feature was so badly bastardized, just so that they could sell more costume slots in the Crown Store.

I actually like that part as opposed to having to change the looks of EVERY piece of gear separately, and then every piece of new gear I ever acquire as well. Heck, what about new chars? I'd have to pay for changing the looks of 8+ pieces every ~10 levels if I wanted to keep the same stylish look... To each their own I suppose.

There're some possible issues with the system(more slots' pricing, dyeing, etc) but we don't yet know enough to complain I think. The core principle of transform every item individually vs make a "costume" is I think apples vs oranges. I like this idea a lot more, personally.

What they introduced last night is pretty much amazing. Instead of a bunch of nonsense you require, they made a very practical system where you only need 1 crafter to unlock the styles and just apply and choose them all in one screen. It even helps you get the styles you don't know yet. Let's say if you don't care about achievements therefore no need for motifs, but you want your shoulders to be Telvanni style, you can unlock it just for 2k instead of spending 20k for the piece or buying the whole motif.

And everyone will have one outfit slot for each character they have, how in oblivion does that surprise you that you need to buy from crown store if you want more outfits? Nothing is wrong with that. A whole team working day and night to improve the game and you come here complaining about being able to buy more slots via crown store?!

I know ZoS don't always give us what we want, but i also know we can at least say "thank you" when they do.

The whole outfit system, dyeing weapons...
I am so ridiculously happy with this system. Honestly, making costumes is far more exciting that transmog, it'd be a pain in the rear transmogging whenever I want to change my gear. This way, I can dedicate a couple hours to EXTREME fashion, make a costume and boom, done. Perfect.

Based on ESO Live today, here are answers to some of the questions here:

    1. Each character gets 1 costume slot, more slots can be bought with crowns. Slots are not account wide.
    2. Motifs are pooled into a collectible, so if you know a motif on any character, any other character can make a costume with it
    3. Fee varies depending on the tier and quality of the motif and it's per slot. Basic racial styles are 100g per slot, and high level motifs are 2k gold per slot.
    4. 1H and 2H weapons you can make look like other types (ex, axe look like sword) but it's purely cosmetic and no affect on passives, etc. Staves can only look like other staves, bows like bows, etc.
    5. In next update it will only work with motifs you know, but sounds like undaunted type styles may be something in the future, but no confirmation.
    6. Was hard to see the screen, but it looks like you can do each tier of a motif. So if you want it to look like level 1 wood elf, you can. Rich only had dark elf on that character and there were multiple options for each armor type, which I'm guessing are the tiers.
    7. You can use any armor type to makeup your costume. So you can be wearing a light robe costume but wearing full heavy as your actual armor.
    8. Weapon dying will be in as well.
    9. Dye stations in homes will be costume stations after update.
    10. You can swap between saved costumes (if you have more than one slot) anytime you want (no cost). Cost is only for saving out a costume.

I have to disagree with you entirely. While it’s not the transmog you wanted I feel they went above and beyond. It’s a customizable costume. Which you wear over your gear. This is amazing. This means that you won’t have to constantly upgrade your old gear if you want to have a certain look. And it’s not locked behind a paywall. You get one outfit free which is not bad. You are also not limited to only transmoging your current type of armor aka if you wear all medium you can look like your wearing heavy. This is great. This actually expands the character diversity in appearances. If you want the duel axe passives but hate wearing axes and prefer daggers or swords you can. This will actually be much better than a simple transmog system. And yes it may cost you 20k for a full set of top tier styles but it’s worth it in my opinion without having to craft either new gear and upgrading it and enchanting. Stop being so pessimistic. This is great. And they added weapon dying as well. Also you can also use the style templates of lower level gear if that is your wish. Also you can preview your entire outfit before paying for it so you don’t accidentally make a set you don’t like. Take the time look at everything and make it the way you want.

So there will be no way to “cosmetically slot” an item that you own but may not know the motif to? If so that really stinks.

That sounds like it might be coming in a future update. They were pretty cagey when the subject of Monster Helms came up. Update 17 does not support them, but I would not say that they will never support them. (Edit: this statement applies to non-Motif styles)

What i hope is that crafters can make pieces of armor/clothing tha they can use for their each characyters outfits and give or sell to others.

There is no player commerce in this system. No items to be found or purchased to use the system, and the results cannot be transferred to any other character or account.

Aside from the possible costs, I'm liking what I've heard about the new "costume" system.

Pending the appearance of it on PTS, I am actually rather impressed by this system, so far. They did not make it a grind. They did not monetize the hell out of it. They actually made a useful and accessible system, admittedly a costume system, but it is still a useful and accessible system. They also seem to have fleshed it out pretty well. There are some obvious places where they can extend the system, but they seem to have pulled in a lot of the potential features and included them.

The main thing that I think will need some adjustment is that the outfit is really just a costume, but the overall effect is largely the same. In Transmog, the actual item is being changed, so if the item is unequipped, that look goes away. If the item is destroyed, a new item has to be created to match the look. This allows items to be mixed and matched for a different look because the appearance is tied to the item.

Outfit System is an illusion of appearance and the actual gear is not changed. Because it is a costume system, a particular look can be created and saved, then used with any gear that is being worn. Multiple looks are possible, but it will require additional slots on the character. This is pretty friendly for leveling, since characters tend to collect unmatched gear that changes almost constantly. It is not possible to out-level the Outfit. All that happens is that the Outfit becomes "dated" as the player learns motifs.

Of course, all of this is pending until I actually see this in action.

I just hate how it has an extra cost attached to it. If we could change our outfits and have multiple slots free with Plus then i'd be fine with it. Having to pay gold to make small changes is something I can live with as long as is not expensive like skill resets, but having to pay crowns for more slots is bunk. Why can't they just do it like the pack merchant, where more slots cost an increasing amount of gold?

I expect that, over time, ESO Plus will have additional benefits that cover this. Cheaper cost, additional slot, or something. Eventually.

I actually like the sound of the implementation so far. If it we're changing a piece of gear to a different style, which costed gold or some consumable, you would have to do that to every piece of gear, and then if you ever change your gear (you finally get that trials set you've been farming for, etc.) you would have to do it to that as well to keep the outfit. Not to mention if you have different gear for different content. Pvp, Pve, healing, DPS, etc. This way you have one outfit you can use for everything you wear.

Of course, this way, you still have to do it again if you want to change your outfit...but then again, you would have to do that the transmogging way too regardless.

It's BS you get one slot. No one can argue that. Transmog shouldn't even be a crown store, the ebtire concept should be free and you should be able to transform as much gear into whatever style you want. This attempt is half assed plain and simple.

With a classic transmog system you very likely could only save one outfit at a time as well and it would probably also cost gold, so I don't see a difference.

I totally disagree. What we're getting is so much better than what people asked.

Despite that I disagree with only one slot per character and not getting any more with gold, I think ZOS did an excellent job with this system and I congratulate this team for their well thought effort.
