AOEs shouldn't disappear when something inside it dies

One example Thunderous Rage, the ranged morph of the Destruction Staff ultimate. When you put it down on top of a group of enemies it ends the AOE when the enemies inside it die.

This becomes a problem in situations where enemies enter or spawn after the first ones have died. It's very noticeable for those daedric rifts that spawn 2 waves of enemies...

The duration is 9 seconds, but it stops way before that. (btw the smaller bolt of lightning that stays around is the Illambris proc)

    Agreed, if you're in combat and using an AoE, the AoE should continue through it's duration even if everything in it dies. The way it is now is a pointless waste of resources. I realize that ZOS doesn't actually want us to have resources. They seemingly want to increase the frustration level and decrease the fun in their game. Still, the way it is now is bad and, honestly, even stupid. It should be fixed to the only way that makes sense.

    It does get annoying. One of the benifits of aoe with damage over time is pulling mobs/players into it. It is mostly pointless if that won’t work properly

    I suppose it was one of those things done for performance.

    This happens all the time with Veil of Blades (Consuming Darkness Morph under the Shadow skill Line) and its a Freakin' Ultimate, it should run it's course of time, which is like 14 sec's+..

    Yo ZOS fix it..

    I agree. I don't care much for this change.
    This now an targeted dot with AoE can disappear with target but that would also follow target.
    An ground based one should stay,
    Grinding just make you go in circles.
    Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    So glad I'm not the only one annoyed when I have to recast my AoE every time a Swarming mob runs into it and dies.

    This also happens with the Atronach ultimate for the Daedric Summoning line. [The Atronach is unsummoned the moment combat "ends" even if there is another wave incoming.]

    I think I can sort of see why the game is like this, from a technical standpoint - combat ends, drop all AoEs and DoTs, simple and saves server resources (a bit) and prevents any conceivable "out of combat damage" bug (imagine a boss' DoTs persisting after a fight, let's say). And so I do not know if ZOS would be willing to introduce exceptions for this skill or that skill.

    Still. Annoying. Especially when so many other MMOs make use of persistent AoEs.

    I haven't noticed this myself,but it does raise a question.Say for example you are on any trial boss with adds.good example may be the first boss in vMOL since the tank may have to move him if cursed.Now say during that the cat s come,and in anticipation of him coming back to that same spot. You drop your destro ult/dots.In the event that the cats die before the boss can reach the location again.Would that also cause the dots/ult to disappear?

    I think this was added after homestead, because long duration AoEs would hit a respawning target skeleton and mess up parsing. At least this was a common complaint when skeletons were first introduced. Seem to me like they could have just changed dummy respawning to like 20s, this is long enough for even DK eruption or NB veil AoE to end (things like rearming trap or mines could still cause problems I guess).

    Hmmm... Or just make aoe dissapear only on dummy? What is the point to introduce it into whole game?

    Cyrodiil is excluded from that option. For some reason teamwork doesnt seem as valuable in PVP as in PVE. @Berenhir

    I prefired a ultimate once, destro, but I was in combat when I used it, before the ultimate hit the mobs I was aiming at I went out of combat and the ultimate disappeared completely, meaning I wasted my entire ultimate for nothing cause of this stupid design choice.

    Please change this, just remove this and let the abilities run their course.

    Was there a patch note somewhere I missed or has this just been noticed?

    I'm fairly certain I've never experienced this, so I'd like to know if it's a bug or another Working-as-intended special?

    How can it be done for performance reasons?... reason being I, you or anyone else can throw down Elemental Blockade or Destro ult when out of combat and not one single enemy is in sight and the skill will last its full duration.. but when you do the same onto a few mobs and they die the ability dies with them long before its due to time out. If it was done for performance reasons then common sense says that it should disappear when used out of combat as soon as it hits the ground.

    OMG YES! Revert to the duration mechanic instead of when the mob dies. It will disappear when cast again so put it back!

    Elemental Blockade, Liquid Lightning and Elemental Rage all do it too and it's very aggravating, I imagine it's there to stop enemies walking into your AOE and being pulled into combat but then again if they're that close to you already they'll most likely sense you and attack anyway...
