We never stop spending time, no matter what we do.
The question should be are you enjoying the time you're spending.
In the matter of ESO, you have the choice to participate in the event or not.

True, and its an decent chance the rewards get in the crown store afterward as an consolation price.
We don't know that. On the other hand running dungeons is an benefit in it self for your character.

I do see the reasoning behind the irritation, runs taking a lot of time for quite possible nothing of use, bugs wasting more of said time.

But ultimately, the event itself is has no monetary cost, you don't have to do them if you don't want, generally you are spending your time on the game anyway, and no matter how some may view it, RNG is probably the fairest mechanic for all. I may be biased since I received my all costumes and a pet. (last costume whilst writing this) But no one is entitled to anything.

If you’re looking at a video game in terms of currency earned vs time spent, you are not playing a game. You’re working.

That’s why economists use the term “utility” instead of “income.” Utility is the value to you you get from your time. If “fun” isn’t part of your utility, stop playing.

Seeing our goverment wants to spend 1.4 billion on people that do absolutely nothing (outside our country mind you), I can only agree that a "free" event is paid for anyhow. We pay for the air we breath somehow too....Sad but true.

It never ceases to amaze me that people can complain about a company trying to make money.

The fact that you can play the entire game for zero dollars is amazing. The fact that people complain that ZOS would charge money for certain parts of the game is absurd.

I’d prefer ZOS charged $25/mo to play and had the ability to earn every crown store item in the game. Hell, I’d pay $50 a month so they could employ more devs and release more content (that I’d pay for).

Did I make an impression here I counted on something or "cried" for something? I did not participate in the said event just observed the forum and "cries" and "whining" of others, as well as the general discussion about so called company greed and money spent on crown crates and alike and it made me post the videos instead of writing a wall of words. I thought they would be self-explanatory..apparently, they do require a wall of words of explanation, by the way.
So, don't jump to your brilliant assumptions/conclusions that quickly, if you'd be so...kind.

Yes yes. The air you breathe isn't free, the sunlight you walk beneath isn't free, the free things they give you for free in the video game isn't free. Nothing is free, when you consider time (that you elect to use in a certain way) and renewable/high-quantity resources as costs.

Must be fun at parties. You're the grandmother that sinks her hooks into all the children, prying about when they're going to get a 'real job' and give her two or six great-grandkids, huh?

...that Time is the true human currency, if you go to buy a new hat or an iphone its not only costing you money its costing you the time you spent to earn the money.
Which seems simple, but we have a tendency as people to value the currency over our own efforts.
& as a rule we really like shiny new things, which can set up a destructive cycle of giving all your time in exchange for new better stuffs.

& @duendology I don't think its quite the same as the reward compulsion that gets us to "grind content" for prizes, by playing ESO at all, free or otherwise we are using our time on ourselves, choosing to spend our time on something fun.
