Getting Repeat Event Drops?

So I was under the impression that we weren't supposed to be getting doubles on certain event box items like costumes and such, but I think that's exactly what happened!!

Here I am getting my first Blacksmith costume :

OJqIsqJ.jpg

And here I am getting my second!!

b4MgoOL.jpg

Is it just fate? Is that character forced to become Captain Bootdrop, legendary double-blacksmith? Or is there something else going on here? Please let me know what's up!

    This issue has been brought to their attention but they haven't responded yet and I don't think they will.

    What they said was "getting duplicate collectibles won't be a problem" but what they probably meant was "you can and will get duplicates but the vanilla UI will hide these from you so it will appear as if you didn't."

    Guess they didn't account for loot drop AddOns showing the truth.

    Edit: They have responded on twitter and have clarified that this is how the loot drop mechanics work for "all" other unique drops in the game. I would mention that the Simulacrum of Molag Bal drops duplicate Soul-Shriven Skins / Stonefire Scamps and you are allowed to both repeatedly view these collectibles on his remains and continually loot them even if you already have them, but I guess that dev statement is otherwise fair. I do however think the initial wording regarding duplicates on the forums could have been a bit more clear but we can chalk that up as a miscommunication.

    They made some comments on Twitter. Basically that they were surprised that people were mad. Downplayed the whole thing.

    @Apache_Kid

    Interesting. Well I can only speak for myself but when I read that getting duplicate collectibles during this event wouldn't be a problem, I assumed that meant those things wouldn't be in my loot pool. Finding out that these duplicates are still polluting your loot pool isn't that bad on it's own, but it's that they tried to hide this fact by making the drops invisible that is a little dirty in my opinion.

    Just be honest next time...

    Edit: Their argument is that "all" other unique trophy / collectible drops in game function the same way (are invisible if you loot a duplicate) but technically that isn't completely true. The Simulacrum of Molag Bal drops duplicate Soul-Shriven Skins / Stonefire Scamps that you can repeatedly view on his remains and continually loot even if you already have them. So again, even if that is how the mechanics for loot drops have always worked it isn't really the problem. The problem and the reason why people have brought this up was because of the expectations they allowed to form by communicating the way they did initially on the forums regarding duplicates.

    Ah so if you don't use an add on I could be getting better rewards, but because i already have them it just seems like a paltry trash reward instead….

    Ill think of myself as having got a super awesome reward EVREY time then….just the same non-showing one.

    You still got two items from the box right? So they are like adding an extra item in when you get a duplicate? It sucks they are polluting the loot table, but I guess it's easier to just keep one loot table for everyone :/

    I wouldn't call what Rich said "surprised and downplayed" he simply explained that how ESO mechanics work.

    Conversation for those interested:

    I think it's all just how each person interpreted the statement. Technically Gina is right, you don't get duplicates, however we all took that to mean you won't lose out on rewards and will always get something new.

    I would think its about letting everyone have an equal chance to get stuff they dont have. Its a finger to those that sub. But hey scorn those people all you want - theyre just financing the game.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno

    Is this working as intended? In that, the collectibles are not removed from your loot table after you have obtained it. You still loot them but they are simply hidden?

    ZOS has these events to keep folks playing their game. They don't care if things are buggy or you get duplicate loot except if it is something major like today when they shut down the server to fix the grouping tool after it went down on all the megaservers yesterday. This event is like all the others doing the same content over and over again in hopes of getting something good in the drop boxes.

    I buy all sorts of stuff. Heck, I buy the DLC's even though I sub. I still think they put way too much behind a paywall. Tons of mounts but when was the last time a mount was added to the stables?

    It's not always about "me," I like to see people I know who can't afford the store to get some stuff. Especially since there is no crown store gift option.

    The thing that he is forgetting is that dungeon runs are unlimited, and busts are extra on top. These boxes are limited and the costumes still dilute the pool.

    I think that's surprise in regards to the functionality as a whole though, not surprised over the anger.

    I don't think this is some great secret screw job but just misunderstandings. I took Gina's messages the same as everyone else, but thinking rationally I can see where potentially there were misunderstandings.

    I read it as that he was surprised that it was news that this was happening. It's not some "great screw job" by any means but they also could've just been straight up with us instead of basically saying 'lets just say you don't get dupes'. They weren't going to come forward with it until the add-on made the discovery. Is it a big deal? Not really I guess. Still rubs me the wrong way that the people who supported ZoS with $$ in the past by buying these costumes don't get a shot at higher tier rewards during this event. I'm not in that boat but I feel for the players that are.

    Oh I'm not mad at all, was just confused! It's still a great event. The only thing I could possibly criticize is that it is more likely to reward people who have bought nothing than those who have bought much out of the cash shop, since as you collect more you are more likely to get duplicates, but mad? Heck no, and I'm glad that people who missed out on the cool mounts and costumes the first time around due to artificial scarcity are getting a shot at it, and for free to boot. The more the merrier.

    The problem is that Gina should have known that the short answer would be interpreted as 'the loot table will award either consumables or unique collectibles.'

    So maybe if the short answer is going to be confusing or misleading, don't provide a short answer.

    If there's a duplicate, it's hidden by the vanilla UI, and you reroll for a new item. Which is why loot addons will show you getting three items when there's a duplicate.

    So in a sense, this is working exactly as ZOS described. It's just that addons show how the sausage is made--but the end result is that you're still getting two items.

    I think what upsets people is that when they would've preferred that the reroll was guaranteed to be another collectible. Instead, they get something like a treasure map.
