Well, really, that's what was done. They've just also lost their username, and all of their character names are now permanently locked away from them.
Remember, this was on PS4, so they can create alt accounts by simply creating new PSN IDs. But, everything associated with their accounts is gone for good.

They’d have to buy another copy of the game and DLCs too or?

No, just the DLC (and Morrowind). The PS4 and XBone versions run off the disk, so that's what controls access to the base game content. Of course, ESO+, and any DLC (including Morrowind) is account based, so that stuff is all gone. (To be clear, Morrowind or the DLC in the Gold Edition, is awarded via a key code in the box, on consoles. Those codes are one time use.)

Well that’s a bit unfair given they had to use the base game key to create their eso account, so they couldn’t use the same ‘used’ key for a new eso account or?

I thought this was done in XBL. If it were done on PS4, it would be all the talk in hub zone chats (e.g. Grahtwood, Craglorn, Auridon, Mournhold, etc.). So it definitely was not on PS4. Lol. People wouldn’t stop talking about it, if that were the case.

I believe the user who posted complaining about their ban identified their platform and server, or someone in the thread responding to them did. I don't remember the server, as far as I can remember the platform was PS4. Apparently NA, given posts from other users.
Now, I'll admit, I am pretty tired at the moment, so I may be forgetting someplace obvious to double check.

Maybe it was both PS4 and XB1 users that exploited and caught bans. All I know is that I personally haven’t heard of anyone on PS4 getting banned. Only XB1.
...
More than that though - people were SELLING flawless runs and hard mode runs etc... so taking their discovered "exploit" to the next level. This is bad for the game, and the community as a hole.
...

No, that's the distinction. On the consoles there is no base game key. The disks themselves authenticate access to the servers. This means, unless you bought the game digitally, you can set up a new account and play on that.
I'm not 100% certain why there's no base game key on the consoles. I assume it's Microsoft/Sony policy, though it could be something else.
Those who are supporting the players banned and blaming ZOS for this should cause ZOS to seriously take a look at these players accounts; typically those sympathetic to cheaters tend to be cheaters themselves but just haven't been caught yet.
From what's being said in the other thread this wasn't a first offence for many of them.Stopnaggin wrote: »If you're killing a boss without any chance of it attacking you, you know you're not doing it as intended.Stopnaggin wrote: »Isn’t this ZoS’s fault for having a bug in the game allowing people to kill a boss from a safe area?! How is that a bannable offense for those players if it is built into the game, you should be thanking them for doing some free beta testing and exposing a bug your dev team left out there......
how many of your friends got banned? Or was it just you?
Not me or anyone i know. Why are u defending zos for putting out broken content?
If someone chooses to drive 120mph on a residential street and gets their license suspended, should we be mad at the legal system for banning them? Or BMW for making the behavior possible?
Can != Should.
Not exactly the same. Was there a sign that said don't go here on the game where they could exploit it? Not to mention one should have serious consequences, the other really isn't going to cause damage to anyone or anything.
Have we really reached a point where gaming communities literally need signs to tell them when they're exploiting? I very much doubt the people who did this were stupid enough to believe it was working as intended.
Not the point and I agree they should be banned. But we are talking about something that could actually cause bodily injury compared to a game. I don't think an exploit in a video game is anywhere near the seriousness of the example given.
How about a professional video game company actually do some testing and we could avoid all this from the beginning. Again they should be banned, I think perma ban is a bit much if this a first offense, but it is what it is.
Also yes the game should have less bugs, but the entire reason there is a ToS clause about exploiting is because bugs will go live, regardless of how much testing was done.
My understanding of this bug is also that it wasn't something like the mechanic not working, but an active effort to get the boss into a situation it could be attacked without risk to the group.

Ya’ll are brutal and vicious when it comes to Zos actually doing something. You also flip out when Zos doesn’t do anything.
It’s honestly depressing seeing comments along the lines of “why aren’t they doing anything for pvp?!?! Pve sucks”
That’s your opinion and you’re allowed to have it. Pvp and pve are equally important. We have to deal with enough bulls h it from error and bugs in the game. We shouldn’t be ripping each other apart
If you watched ESO Live they mentioned they are working on fixing the loading screens. I don’t know if any of you have actually taken a coding class or seen the insides of video game coding. It’s massive undertaking.
If you find something that doesn’t seem right and you don’t report it you have no right to complain about what happens.
There is a huge difference between randomly coming across a bug and actively participating in said exploit or bug..

They exploited a glitch. That is bannable. But what they were also doing was selling skin runs to people while using the glitch. These two things combined is what I think got them (deservedly so) perma banned.
You cant know everyone who was doing it was selling it. They all do deserve bans but perma bans? Its far too harsh imo.
Its Zos fault its possible in the first place. Why did they not ban everyone who intendingly used the befoul exploit? Its a joke imo.

I am not a fan of ZOS quality control, and they are far too laid back and casual about fixing bugs. However, the way that this has been decribed makes this sound like something QA would not have detected. The team that designed the space might have been able to anticipate it, but to know that for sure, I would have to know the specifics.
The Sanctum troll boss is a good example- cos every single player on this forum has at once stage done the same exploit - knowingly and willingly- should they all be banned? this is way way harsh when there are STILL exploits in the game that people use every day. the difference is is that this is a highly highly coveted skin that only 24 or so people on each server have achieved yet. whats at stake isn't some vo ring- but probably the most difficult to ahcivet title and skin in the game, and zos want to preserve that, but moreso- Zos are embarrassed that something they held up as being the hardest and best content got beaten by a simple , so simple its embarrassing ly dumb exploit and now theyre exacting vengeance.
but thats still inconsistent across the whole game- and what people have been doing from the beginning.
- sanctum ophidia troll bridge exploit
- vMOL bridge exploit
- vROM tree and memento exploit to get to final boss.
the thing that f#$%cked these people was the selling of the skins- thats inexcusable and can't be defended.
these others STILL havent been fixed. nor have alot of people been punished for it, people that I'm sure are here in these forums saying good riddance. stop being hypocrites ya ll. and secondly - fix these glitches ZOS, then we won't have to debate it.

I think the real issue I have is that they do not test or PTS test console...if they do then they need to consider hiring more competent testers. It took 4 days for ppl to find a glitch on the main piece of content being pushed by ZoS. 4 days...Not to even mention the loading screens...how does this go unnoticed? A console PTS would have cleared up all this mess before it even started.
From what I've managed to piece together? No, testing wouldn't have caught this. It relies on the players intentionally subverting the systems in place. That kind of stuff tends to be much harder to find during professional testing, and PTS environments are notorious for finding stuff like that and keeping it to themselves.

If they hired the guys that found it in the first place it damn sure would have been found. My point was if this was a one off thing maybe I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, but this is every dlc. Again no excuse for using the exploit but if players can find it in sure developers could as well. Hell I'm sitting on 2 broken quests for cwc right now. And its not like they are new I checked the forums and they were known before release, but I wouldn't expect a fast fix for these either.

Testing used to look for these kinds of things so yeah it more than likely would have been caught. That's one of the points of testing yeah?
