Its ALL situational, and depends on build, class, role, scenario. You can't just ask, which is better or worse with no context at all.

There've been times in the game's history where that was true. There've also been times when it was hands down, the best armor for any role. Balance changes have altered the landscape significantly, but don't expect players who don't understand what made it good (or bad) in the first place to understand and keep up. They'll just continue spouting out of date nonsense.

    Medium armor
Why is medium bad? Let's see.

In terms of damage: Concentration > Wrath > Agility

In terms of resource management magicka is easier than stamina.

In terms of survivability: heavy has mitigation, healing received, and more health.

Light armor has the almighty damage shields. Medium has dodge rolling which is effective against stamblades primarily. Other than that there's a good chance it's a waste of stamina.

    That's why medium is garbage.

    Medium armor
Medium armor. Now for stamina PVE it is still what you will use, however passives such as the damage from stealth don't help with PVE dps at all whille the light armor damage has spell penetration passives which is the single best way to increase DPS. Add to that light armor uses have the option to stack shields or heal to reduce incoming damage (in both PVE and PVP) that stam users do not to the same extent.

Whille for PVP it has its uses, lots of dodge rolls can make you slippery, damage from stealth can pack a real punch. The problem is too often you run right into Eye of the storm (or a bunch of them) and die. You can't dodge roll AoEs like that, If you get CCed you'll be killed much faster than a heavy armor user. Also Warden cliff racer damage can't be avoided. Really good at running away though

Heavy armor is obviously important for PVE tanks. who just want to reduce incoming damage to the cap. Whille in PVP, even with the sustain nerfs, the ability to just not die and slog it out with powerful CC abilities is extremely powerful. You can gain additional burst from monster sets and (until next patch) proc sets. With everyone built for burst the ability to just be too tanky to die to burst makes you a monster in PVP.

I did use to play this a couple of years ago. I probably just latched on to things people were saying back then. I never understood much about how this stuff all works.

I'm, how you say, a "stamwarden." I only didn't put Light Armor in the poll because I genuinely thought there was some kind of long-time stigma against heavy and medium armor. Either that time has passed or it was simply a handful of people that just couldn't get the hang of it.

Sounds like they have a lrn2play issue.

When they said it, it was kinda accurate. Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth (around 1.2 or 1.3) Heavy Armor was kinda worthless. The mitigation values weren't that different between the armor types and heavy armor's mitigation bonuses weren't enough to really make it useful.

Back then, Medium Armor was kinda useless as well, because Stamina wasn't really a viable build yet. This might have been before the stamina morphs were implemented. Either way, there was no reason to spec into stamina, and heavy armor offered less mitigation value than a LA character would enjoy with Annulment.

There for awhile the meta was for tanks to run LA with a sword and board.

I want to say this all changed with 1.4, but it may have been earlier than that. Heavy armor went basically unchanged, but medium armor was scaled down to about 3/4s of what it had been, and light armor went to about 1/4th. Annulment also got changed so that it was far less potent (IIRC, it changed to only protect you from spell damage instead of spell and phys, but it's been awhile.)

So... yeah, picking between those two for the most useless would have been a legitimate poll... three years ago.

You seem to have a fundamental lack of understanding Of ESO roles.

If you are doing PvE content, such as group dungeons, the gear allocation is very simple:
    Tanks wear heavy armor
    Magicka DDs wear light armor
    Stamina DDs wear medium armor
    Healers wear light armor.

    Period.

If you can't understand why it is like that, then you really need some friend or guildie to help you out with some advise.

As for PvP... that is a whole different story.
Anyone can wear any armor simply because in most cases, it's "every man for himself". No roles in PvP whatsoever. Mostly.

For PvE, LIght is not so good, 2 passives to give you the same benefit as 1 passive on Medium (Cost Reduction and Regeneration), Crit is a fixed value for 5 pieces or more (no improvement for 6 or 7 pieces), no Spell Damage but Spell Penetration (also a fixed value for 5 pieces or more) who doesn't help me at all as healer.

For PvP which shield ? Most of the shields are based on Max Magicka which is not increased by Light Armor apart from one Morph of the Light Armor Skill.

No offense, but I don't really care if you think it's useful or not. It's meant to be useful to me, not you.

Granted, my observations were outdated, so it also ended up being useless to me. I guess you have a point in that regard. But when I made the poll, I was under the impression it would be useful to me. I wasn't aware that a few people would find my ignorance to be offensive lol.
