Think nobody gonna argue that ESO encourages players to have several characters\builds. So I don't see any point of each character running with his own purse instead of just storing gold for everyone. I just find myself frequently transferring gold from one character to another, can't see any point in this.

I wouldn't want it to be merged as I do that to help control my spending. I'd go broke in a day. LOL. I keep very little on more used characters and spending money in the regular bank. It's nothing but a time sink to have to shuffle things to and from the bank to make room when you switch alts. The empty spaces are there, so it's not like you're expoiting.
The bank space is already common, the majority of the bag space should be as well, at least when accessed from the bank menu. Skip the intermediate step and the 5 other required logins = less server strain for pointless activity.
(And yes, you shouldn't keep everything, you should sell/decon. But in reality, that, too takes time, and if often preferred to be done later during downtime vs when an alt needs to actually run an instance.)Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...
