Not a surprise sadly. And it's quite bad to make en event like that locked behind a pay wall (paying a dlc + chapter), but not bad at all from a marketing view and making more profits. :/

News flash: the entire game is locked behind a paywall.

Irrevelant, the topic here is the mid year event, not the game base.

The only reason it is irrelevant is because it doesn't fit your narrative. The simple fact of the matter is as stated by the comment below yours: if you don't buy the content you don't get to do the content.

This event has stuff in base game, stuff in Morrowind expansion. If you didn't get Morrowind you are not entitled to that portion of the content.

    Throwing "paywall" around means nothing.

...No, the only reason it's relevent is because it's not relevent. People paid for a product and you can shill for ZOS all you like, that does not mean the discussion of whether or not seasonal events should be part of that product should not occur.

It can be gated behind Fort Knox as far as I'm concerned. Not a PVP player. I'm more miffed that they could;t find one single way to throw PVE players a bone during this whole "event." PFFFFT

I'm no pvp player and it doesn't bother me in the least. First the achievements are easy, one night maybe a little over an hour and I'm half done. Second we pvers get all the holiday events, all the good gear sets and everything else that comes out. They should give pvp some love if they plan on keeping it. They've had one dlc, IC and it's tiny compared to what we get. So while we may not get a bone this time, they haven't gotten one in a long time. Go in get your achievements and get out, it's seriously not that hard. Join a big fight spam some aoes and be done.

Here's why people are complaining: the other three events are fully inclusive. They reward general participation and require no DLC to complete. As a result, they can be enjoyed by everyone, from experienced veterans to enthusiastic newbies. Meanwhile, Midyear Mayhem is locked behind two DLC and requires skilled play (killing blows, battlegrounds).

The problem isn't just that it requires DLC, but that it is conceptually very different from other holiday events.

There have been multiple pve events. Let pvp have one.

Finally someone gets it. I am pve and I have half the stuff done for the festival already, from a little over an hour of play, so it's not like it's out of reach. I was actually having a bit of fun too.

The example I will use to make my point is DC universe Online. I played it for years. The game has more DLCs than this game will ever have. Its sub based for the most part yet everyone of its seasonals were base game so everyone could enjoy it. Its just good business.

DCUO was pretty close to a p2w game though.

Replay badges made it P2W in the beginning of dlc release but everyone had time to get Bis gear before the next DLC came.

What I don't get is why the OP of the post is whine about thing lock in Morrowind honest do people still think that should get the chapter "expansion" for free???

It is like telling any MMO Game Company out there that should give out expansion for free.

News flash if they don't take out money for the chapter "expansion" then we can't play ESO for much longer and yes a chapter is an "expansion"

Honest OP if have pay for DLC and the chapter that is your lost and I sorry you don't have money for but honestly don't go to forum whine that ZoS do this for all Game Company both in MMO and single game do this nowdays it is not so unique that you make to sound like and ZoS is not big bad company that only sucks money from us like other MMO Company do.
Pretty sure you have just jumped to conclusions regarding my income. I can well afford the expansion, I have chosen not to purchase it due to the fact that battle grounds are broken and the DLC shouldn't have beem released in its state. Any smart consumer refuses to buy a broken product. Im voting with my wallet and basing my opinions on how every other mmo bases their seasonal events. Not the huge cash grab eso is.

With a personality like yours I bet you are a hit with the babes and a delight at parties..

    Cheers.

That's a choice you make though isn't it? You choose to not buy because one piece of the game is broken. So you miss out, and that's not the fault of ZOS, that is completely on you. It's perfectly fine to do that, but complaining because they put out an event that you choose not to participate in is kinda silly. We all make choices, and they all have consequences. I see no problem with this event and how it's being conducted. The base game will only go so far, it's about time they added in different areas.

You think its ok for a company to put out a product that doesnt work? Would you buy a car without a steering wheel? Or a fridge without a door?

As for base game the majority of MMOs use seasonals as a fun way to reward its player base with some thing different than the norm. This is the first MMO that I've played that had included seasonals requiring DLCs. Most(obviously not all) are base game only.

Why do I feel Im repeating myself?

People buy because they want to buy despite the bugs in the game. No one says you have to buy. You made a choice because of valid reasons and others made a decision to buy for other valid reasons. If folks want to try it the get ESO plus till you get achievements. Please no more MMo comparisons, doing something because some other company did isnot a good business plan.

I did not criticize your not buying the expansion, I actually said it was perfectly fine. The battleground are broken, I assume, I don't pvp very often. The base Morrow in works fine for me, so I bought it. I had no idea about battlegrounds because that's not my thing. All I was saying is that a choice you made has a consequence. As do all choices we all make.

Would I buy a car without a steering wheel? No. Would I buy a car without an ash tray? Yes. I get it if pvp is your thing, but the whole chapter isn't broken, just the part you feel is enough warrant not buying it. Calm down man I wasn't pissin in your cheerios. Just a different opinion.
