In my experience it's an FPS tactic for people who think they can dodge bullets. If there is actually a game mechanic that gets bypassed by doing this then that is all the more reason to apply a cost to eliminate it. They couldn't do anything about animation cancelling so they rolled with it like it was intended, but it wasn't, they just couldn't stop it without totally changing combat. If there is no game mechanic being bypassed then no one needs to jump continuously in combat, so applying a stamina cost shouldn't hurt anyone in combat. This is something they could stop without totally changing combat.

I want you to just read the last section of that and recognize how stupid it sounds.
So if someone wants to jump during role-play they have to make sure they have enough stamina to do it? Who cares if someone jumps in combat, it doesn't make them hard to Target.
And no it doesn't bypass Cast times. you can't jump and animation cancel faster that's a load of BS.

I usually try to not hop during battles. hopping all the time usually ends up with me slow sliding down the side of some pebble.

but idk... when i see an enemy hopping i just tend to start hopping along with them while we fight lol.

Sorry, I forgot how critical jumping during role play is. I prefer to roll dodge and sprint when I role play... nerf jump please...

It probably hides certain animations and probably allows them to avoid certain ground effects.

I also doubt they are manually jumping...

The people that do it don't do anything unless it's an advantage.

They should make jump cost 5% stamina.

1.) First and foremost, to set a tempo and rhythm for combat.

2.) To trigger zergbads as can be seen in this thread.

    Funny you should say that.

    Confessions of a jumper

I had a really hard time learning to weave. I just didn't grok the whole thing. So finally after failing for a long time, I took a page from music lessons and CPR classes, fired up some 60bpm music and internalized that rhythm. Now it's a habit. If I start weaving with a destro staff I'm probably jumping without even noticing it.

Jumping doesn't allow you to bypass cooldowns. It's not related to macros. It doesn't make you avoid damage. It serves no actual game purpose other than being a just a timing fidget like a guitarist tapping his foot. (And apparently triggering people by annoying them.)

So if you see me jumping in Cyrodiil, it's because somewhere in the back of my head I've got my sparkly silver platform shoes and disco groove on stayin' aliiiiiiiiiive-hiiiive-iiiiiive.

I can agree with this, you want to look like an idiot, pay for it. Same as the jester personality, you use it, you look like an idoit, so make it impossible to refuse duel invitations.

Jumping while casting Dive should cause you to set the Cliff Racer free!

Dark Exchange + Jump = old Dark Exchange animation (nerf Sorc)

Jump + Path of Darkness = creates a literal path in mid-air you can walk on

Jump + Piercing Javelin = pole-vault over keep walls

Jumping temporarily turns Lava Whip into Lava Naynay

Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

What animations does it hide? What ground AOEs do you think it avoids? Do you really think people macro their jump button? I have so many questions.

Of all the silly, stupid requests - I seriously don't get this. Then again, I shouldn't - you people are just unreasonable.
Whether we bunny hop or not it doesn't hurt you in the slightest. Despite all the conspiracy theories - no, hopping around doesn't give you some kind of uber-mega GOD buff that only a few, select people have access to.

I get the OP's point, it is annoying watching people jump continually in battles. I think they believe you can't target them or something as they jump, probably habits from other games that this tactic works. But not in eso. This would affect cliff climbing battles though! Yes it should cost stamina climbing rocks in battle's. Idk, but I actually think it's an interesting idea. Cheers.

    Or it's fun?

All this thread is going to do is make me jump around more because it apparently annoys people...and I love doing that.

I don't know why other players do it, but I usually do it as a way to conserve my directional momentum without holding down WASD while aiming. It lets me keep moving in my wanted direction while my fingers press the necessary skill keys. It's also downright mandatory against the players that feel the need to attack you while inside your player model, where it's impossible to target them back.
