If you are going to use at least 1 set of crafted, why not just craft the weapon and farm the rest?

I'm asking the question but I'm also assuming people normally do this to make their life much easier by not having to farm the right weapons with right trait.

For example:

Assuming you use 1h+Shield or Dual Wield

Head: Monster
Shoulder: Monster

Chest: Craft
Leg: Craft
Hands: Craft
Belt: Farm
Shoes: Farm

Amulet: Farm
Ring #1: Farm
Ring #2: Farm

Weapon #1: Craft
Weapon #2: Craft

Now, instead of farming the right weapons with the right trait you're farming another setpiece with the right trait. It doesn't improve your chances by much x) Generally for these hybrid setups you farm and farm and farm and stop whenever you have 5 items with desired traits and craft whatever's left. Or you know, moving to farm the next set. Use cheap guild store sets inbetween.

Yes, being able to use crafted weapons is the biggest advantage of a crafted set.

For example, each of my magicka characters carries with it a "basic" set of 5p Julianos (with sharp Julianos fire/lightning staves), 3p Moondancer jewelry (I have so many sets of MD jewelry that I've vendored dozens by now), 1p Moondancer armor, and 2p monster (not necessarily in ideal traits).

And I would use this "basic" set for stuff like pledges when I can't be bothered with fetching my BiS gear off of whatever character happens to currently have it.

Thats what i do on all my chars. Except i craft Chest, Legs and Boots, for the looks and take Hands/Belt from farmed one.
On Staff/Staff setups i tend to run 4 pc ia/md. on 2h/bow i drop 1pc monster.

I hate farming, so crafting 1 piece and farming the rest doesn't really help me. I'd rather craft it all and get on with playing that be restricted to doing the same thing over and over hoping to finally get the drops I need so I can get on with the stuff I actually want to do.

From what I hear BiS gear isn't that much better than 2nd best options that are much easier to get. I think I'll just skip on BiS stuff and gear my alts with 2nd best throughout.

Erm... weapons in desirable traits are much harder to get than armor pieces in desirable traits. There's is a lot more loot table dilution in weapon drops, particularly for dungeon/trial sets.

For example, according to my Raidificator history, I have 191 clears of vMoL. And after 191 clears of vMoL (plus many clears of nMoL), I have looted a grand total of just one sharp Moondancer lightning staff (and zero sharp Moondancer fire staves, though a friend was kind enough to give me hers when she looted one). In contrast, I have sooooo many moondancer body armor pieces that I can outfit all 6 of my magicka characters with moondancer body armor in all divines (and once I get more pieces than I have characters that can use them, I start deconning, so I'd have even more than that if it weren't for the decons).

So, yea, weapon RNG in this game is total bulls***.

Its all about the right armor weight on the right piece. For instance....most of my magicka builds for what I do I use heavy armor. This means the ONLY piece of light armor I want is a belt, I want boots or hands to be medium, and everything else to be heavy, if this means I have to farm a weapon instead of ending up with 2 light armor pieces, so be it. There are many reasons to farm weapons. That being said, if my build uses one crafted set, I will of course try to craft the weapons as long as it doesn't interfere with the ideal weights on the right pieces.

There's a few things to consider:
1. Does that armor piece disrupt the 5-1-1 setup?
2. Is the boss(s) that armor piece drops from easier to farm than the final boss?
3. (Optional) Is the armor ugly/need to be covered up with a robe/costume?

I mostly avoid the whole BiS farming hamster wheel by running 5 crafted and 5 overland dropped. I craft my weapon and 4 armor bits. Then I farm 3 purple jewelry pieces of my desired overland set at the appropriate zone's dolmens. Then I buy the last two small bits of armor for the overland dropped set from guild vendors.

Now, my lightning pet magsorc is pretty respectable in Julianosx5 and Necrox5.

But yes, that means no SPC for my healer. She runs Seducersx5 crafted and Robes of the Histx5 overland dropped. Laugh all you want but she is a darn fine healer. Robes of the Hist bonuses are perfectly good general magicka character bonuses and that 5th bonus keeps her on her feet and healing instead of on her back stunned/disabled when things get tense. Disclaimer: Don't care about veteran or trial stuff. Just normal.

You do the dropped weapon (minimum of 1) because you want to do 5/1/1 to maximize traits AND to put all of the armor pieces in the highest armor return slots. If you don't pay attention to this, or you happen to roll the armor type that your dropped set is, then your point is totally true.

If using a set that has no armor/is an arena weapon, if the looted set is in an unwanted armor type. Otherwise? Insanity
